How old are Clarkson, Japeth, June Mar, Mikey, and Newsome? They can't form a core beyond 2023 if we have too many players that age.

Short-term mag-isip amputik.

team usa basketball mentality..PBA and SBP thinks that stockpiling gilas with the best PBA players is enough to be competitive but yeah, said approach only works for the americans!

SBP feeling USAB! tsk

If mikey williams will play as a local in WC (fingers crossed), and the inclusion of PBA players is non-negotiable, I still hope that the the core consisting of Tamayo, Baltazar, Navarro, and Dwight will be untouched.

The hybrid team will look something like:

Bigs: Kai, Junmar, Edu or if unavailable, settle for either Japeth or Erram (i have no horse in this race here)

Forwards: Tamayo, Baltazar, Navarro, Clarkson, T. Ravena or Malonzo (at this point, I'd pick Thirdy over Malonzo as we have yet to see him in action in FIBA tourneys)

Guards: Williams, Ramos, Perez, Parks or Heading.

Add Kouame and SJ in the mix and we have an 18-man pool for the WC.

LOL big picture daw

Big picture is World Cup .. papasok Kai, Clarkson, Japeth, Junemar, Malonzo … baka Mikey Williams at Newsome kung pumayag FIBA

Tab would have no interest in coaching a team like that , can see why PBA /SBP don't want him as coach. Tab's plans for Gilas were essentially at odds with direction of PBA..

If this is the direction of the PBA and SBP then there is really no point in Asia cup or window teams composed of mainly B league and college players (none PBA) all these explanations by Chot then make zero sense

Also if this is the direction, then Kouame and Dwight playing preperation now makes no sense . (Note Clarkson was not included in same light as Newsome)

I dont like this attitude wherein a goal is to have zero PBA players. I think its ok to let them fight for their slots. If none of them are worth it so be it but they still deserve a shot. This is assuming Chot's 3 month preperation is true.

It starts to wanting to go,if they're forced to go by owners/management of the team, they're just in halfheartedly and it shows on how they played,to the point that some were accused of avoiding all contacts,or deliberately stinking up on the court to lessen playing time.

The problem with including PBA players is often times, they are "last minute hugot".

And we very well know that PBA players are not well-versed in tougher FIBA games. They don't really have an advantage over an amateur who has consistently been in the cadet program for a while now.

The SBP needs to get the PBA either commit its players to the national team - that means including the windows and not just having them on the "main event" or eff off.

And those last minute hugots will then get the majority of minutes while the program mainstays are relegated to reliever duties or in worse cases bench warmers.

True. At the end of the day, sbp would choose the PBA star players and JC and kai.

that team will be given a rude awakening, probably even much worse than the 2019 beating!! the 2014 WC team had the surprise factor and the benefit of a long training camp, while it appears that the current team to be built would be fast tracked. Luka, Giannis, Jokic ,and team USA of ever those guys play in Manila, will eat our team alive, and probably lead more than 60-70 pts

As long as PBA still the higher ups, SBP in any managements still dicking PBA ass!!! Do you think if SMC will handle the SBP eh they will focus on long term? Nah!!! i don't see that happening... PBA is no.1 enemy of Gilas fans of having true national team....

Yeah, boss Alfrancis most likely wouldn't want a non-PBA squad, and he doesn't like the exodus. That's also my concern with SMC.

And yes, as long as SBP officials still have interests in the PBA, wala, can't assert themselves, get the PBA to commit long before the windows and main tournaments. I mean, schedule pa lang, wala na.

Long time lurker here and have been supporting our NT since 98 Centennial Team.
I just want to vent my frustrations with our supposed “program”.
I just saw the highlight of Lebanon beating NZ and it made me sad - they’ve overtook our “program” in just a short span of time. We are stuck on this loop of “learning experience” and “lack of preparation” and not the “best players” excuses. What I see is, like the Filipino Culture in general, filpino basketball lack discipline. From the Top to the Players. One thing is very clear, we play below average bastketball and we don’t get it, we don’t accept it. No evolution on the way we play. I believe we have some talent but not the drive to be better - save for a few i think I can count using my finges and some are retired. 6’3 overweight centers who offer nothing else but being bulky. Wings and guards who can’t shoot and defend consistently. “Professional” palyers who do not add new skills. Ever noticed that our players get outmuscled and outplayed by good national teams everytime? Do we lack size? heck no. we lack mental toughness. Our players are fluffy. Coaches? damn, same thing, dribble dribble, flashy flash, bigs play inside lang, looking smart, and they have the I know everything and don’t need any help from others mentality thus the hatred for foreign coaches. SBP? nah, i get it, its private money but damn no direction at all. no discipline to follow a program. all egos. PBA? sh_t. glorified brgy liga. That’s why we fans are stuck on hope and dreams. We write fictional line ups and developments hoping it becomes true one day and it has been going for 8 years. It’s frustrating AF but what can we do? I hope we do be better next time but i have started to not expect anything great from gilas or SBP. I even started not expecting the team to give a good fight to good national teams. it hurts but i expect them to be beaten by atleast 20 points everytime they face good teams. Man I hate this feeling but I 100% think its true. So, on to the next frustrating game and tournament. How many points do you think NZ will beat us by? I bet 1k pesos it’ll be by more than 20. I hope I lose though.

And speaking of long-term in the PBA, I noticed that many of the best PBA players are 30 and above. June Mar (32), Japeth (36), LA (38), Marcio (35), Wright (31), Newsome (32), Castro (36), Pringle (36), CStan (33), Abueva (34), and Arwind (41).

Only a few guys like Scottie (29), Perez (28), Malonzo (25), Bolick (26), Oftana (26), and Perkins (29) are stars below 30.

That's too many stars above 30, and too few below. Speaks to the ability of PBA teams, or lack thereof, to develop younger stars, although the exodus may have played a part in that.

Problem in ibn and Phil basketball is we underestimate people we hate and the same time put people we like on pedestal..Although chot is special case,I see the improvement and evolvement of the way he handle Gilas..kaso ibn and myself still cant accept that the head coaching job os a plantilla position to him..

Perhaps Delta should be the new SBP president. Let us see the PBA try to mess with Delta's plan for Asian domination. hahaha

MFW the average Pinoy basketball fan would be more proud of an all-Filipino team losing by 50+ points to a real team than a team with foreign personnel winning by 20+ points against a weak team.

Stuck in the 1980s and 1990s mindset. Hence 1990s basketball being romanticized for being "a real man's game" while modern basketball being dismissed as "soft" and "a glorified 3-point shooting contest".

So basically, like what Team USA is doing. One problem: We are NOT Team USA.

Not really, players actually go pro early in the US.

LOL. correct. PBA have 31 year old rookies. UAAP and NCAA have 26? 27? year old college players? Youngest PBA rookie is 24? LOL. At 24, European, US, Australian, even Japanese, Korean and Chinese basketball players are seasoned professionals.

Call me crazy, but I think I can see shades of LA Tenorio in SJ Belangel. Decisive playmaker, knows what he's going to do, although he started out as a scorer, and he puts forth effort on defense.
