Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

KQuiam's passing is indeed a revelation. It would be even better if he can be more of triple threat (pass, shoot or drive) , or the plays starts from him like a true point forward.

He is so young yet he is a tremendous passer. He could be one of PH basketball greats with the right coach/training

His number of assist in the India game is quite comparable to Scottie Thompson's average

I saw Quiambao doing a few drives but he usually kicks it off to the shooter in the wings. I think its possible Quiambao can be a triple threat in a few years if he improves his drives & outside shooting. Of course about his passing, its already a given that that is his biggest upside & it is expected to even improve moving forward.

Looking at his game with Gilas, he plays like as if he has been with the team in the last 4 years. He seems to get along with everyone else in the team with the way he involves his teammates in offense. I think Quiambao's passing skill is innate. Inborn ika nga. Such passing looks a lot easier than it is. It requires good situational awareness & timing. Making the pass too soon & the receiver won't be able to catch the ball, on the other hand a split-second late pass could mean the ball getting stolen the opponent.

for me, what KQuiam needs to improve further is not the shooting per se but his off-the-ball movements. He needs to screen, on-ball and off-ball, and cut more. Also, he needs to work on his perimeter and post-up defense.

his role is like what Draymond Green is for the GSW.

I wonder how he would be like if he went to Ateneo instead of La Salle

I think it's okay for the PBA to play the whole year as long as they don't insert themselves in the national team esp with their hugot system

It's either commit or piss off.

Hugot system ain't inherently bad, but when the players didn't get the opportunity to train together the first time, come on. Missed passes, missed defensive rotations, etc.

lol KQ is d best passer in d current gilas line-up.

Sorry if these have been asked and answered before.

1. what's KQ real ht? he seems much smaller than navarro.

2. why did he not play for dlsu last season?

Kikiams is envisiones to be draymond like 6'4 with the shooting of rdo

Quiambao’s passing is legit but I wanna see the same precision against lengthy athletes. I think it was vs NZ that he tallied 4 assists vs 3 turnovers. Not that bad considering it comes from a big spot. If he’s decent at best in tighter defenses, though, I think his weaknesses would outweigh that strength.

One thing for sure, though—he’d be a dynamic, serviceable player for Gilas in lieu of players that could not commit to the team. His passing could give Gilas a different look. Unfortunately for him, it’d be hard to usurp the slots occupied by the likes of Tamayo, Baltazar, Navarro, and soon Malonzo. Can we afford to have a logjam there sacrifice maybe a shooter, a wing or a backup guard? If Kai and Ange are both available I can see Gio ceding up the emergency big slot to Quiambao. Kai and Quiambao combo just might work.

Passing bigs could be a thing in the future. We’re seeing even late assist bloomers like Junemar becoming good at it.

Skills-wise, it’s very teachable to our future bigs.

How old are Clarkson, Japeth, June Mar, Mikey, and Newsome? They can't form a core beyond 2023 if we have too many players that age.

Short-term mag-isip amputik.

Its fair. Ive said before since we are hosting we might as well try our best for 2023 but afterwards hopefully we pivot to focusing on development. Ideally in at least an u21 level but if massive focus starts at u16 then better.

So how are we gonna build up a new core leading up to the 2025 Asia Cup? We're gonna have to rely on windows, SEA Games, Jones Cup, King's Cup, and the like, plus the uncertainty of the availability of the PBA players, if they wanna butt in.

Sorry, I'm kinda in panic mode about this, and frankly, pissed off that the SBP don't have a direction.

Lots of things can happen in less than a year.

Did any of us expect Choke to be back as HC?

The SBP likes to send players who are soon to approach their retiring age
