Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

  • Thread starter Thread starter IPC2
  • Start date Start date
I think SBPs long term game plan should be like this:

Have a Team A to compete in the World Cup

Have a Team B to compete in the Asia Cup

have a Team C to compete in SEABA or SEA games

As in, build a team tier that gets "promoted" as they improve and gain more experience

Agree but after the loss to Indonesia we need to send a message and simply punch them
in the mouth w/a 50-point beating Lol
But i like the development from our SEA neighbors, DMX may actually have a better path going to the NBA i wont be surprised if he makes it, D1 NCAA the as a 6'9ish player that can can shoot (setshot) & moves well that's
the prototype of today's NBA

This seems to be as promising as Chot's 2007 national team stacked with fil-fors and dual citizens like williams, norwood, pennisi, menk, taulava, caguioa, alapag, and helterbrand. That team beat China C twice.

if Chot is dreaming of a small ball 5 in his DDO, this should be his line up. in DDO, athletic players (Philipps, Lucero, Malonzo, Lopez, Harris) and capable shooters (Parks, Ramos, Abando, Black, Adams) are needed in order for this offense to work.

Think of this 5:

Philips 6'8
Malonzo 6'6
Parks 6'4
Dwight 6'4
Kiefer 5'11

open court is waiving.

With all the injuries at Terrafirma, I will speculate Heading may consider playing for them. And basically throwing his name to World Cup pool.

I will speculate also the same thing for Parks. His motivation for playing for Gilas again is the World Cup.

It would be prestigious for a player to be part of a World Cup (formerly World Championship) roster. Its a once in a lifetime opportunity. And the best possible path to the World Cup is thru the SBP and the PBA whether we (fans) like it or not.

The same thing can be speculated on Kiefer. Still opting in on his B League stint. But came home to make himself available for Gilas and not for NLEX.

Just my thoughts.

The best possible path to the WC is through the PBA. An SMC-MVP alliance made sure of that. Ayaw masapawan ang PBA, e.

Good news is, they'll have roster upgrades. June Mar, Kiefer, CJ, Bolick, Oftana, and now Malonzo. Bad news is, they might insist on more than the upgrades; fillers if you will. I dunno. My suspicions may be unfounded, but that's just me.

Now that's a good small-ball lineup. Has some shot creation in Dwight, Parks, and Kiefer, and the 3-guard lineup sacrifices neither size nor defense. I'll take it.

i borrowed this concept from GSW's death line-up as well as D'Antoni's microball Rockets. Hehe

Or Parks & Dwight can do the PG duties and insert Lucero as the 3, then have Adams,Tamayo,Balti,Lopez & Kiefer as 2nd five...Kai & Chiu as the 11th & 12th as bigs

It is an excellent lineup against our traditional foes like Taiwan and SK imo, but against euro-sized teams, is the trio of parks, dwight, and kiefer really that good in iso and creating their own shots that if the 3's don't fall in we'll still be able to score? can Phillips score off and finish strong from a drop pass like Kai or Angge? As flashy as this team is, I think it will live and die by the 3 point shot, and once they have a bad shooting day, expect a loss by more than 30 points against top-tier teams.

all of them are good defenders, rebounders and scorers naman. you just need to improvise a good offensive and defensive strategy for them.

btw, it's just a wild thought.

thought exercises are a good way to come up with excellent ideas. I'm sure brilliant coaches and tacticians do this all the time.

But we have to actually put a hypothesis to a series of tests before it can challenge the existing norms and principles. right now, we all have statistical and visual pieces of evidence that Tab and Nenad's system works for us, at least until today as we have yet to see the outcome of the match against NZ. But even if they lose today, we can't simply claim that Chot's is better unless he proves it otherwise by coaching the asia cup using the DDO roster of his choice.

Mike Philips, on the other hand, has the stronger case of becoming a local through exemption. Zave Lucero could be our naturalized player.

Just a wild thought, I have the following names as my dream 12:

1. Mike Philipps 6'8 (thru exemption)
2. Zave Lucero 6'7 (naturalized)
3. Jamie Malonzo 6'6
4. LeBron Lopez 6'6
5. Roosevelt Adams 6'6
6. Caelum Harris 6'5
7. Ray Parks, Jr. 6'4
8. Dwight Ramos 6'4
9. Rhenz Abando 6'2
10. Thirdy Ravena 6'2
11. Aaron Black 6'1
12. Kiefer Ravena 5'11

How this line up will fare in FIBA-Asia Cup? Hehe

This is actually a lineup that we should be looking to develop in our youth teams, especially in HS and college. 6'4"-6'6" wings instead of players that size and athleticism being developed into hustle bigs. And then develop any 6'6"-6'8" players into at least tweener forwards, or at least bigs who can play four.

why the hell would you go small ball when you face tall teams that can small ball at the World level?

trendy. plus it hides the fact you cant go tall and can still be on the same pace as other teams.

Italy and Dominican Republic beat the sh*t out of us using small ball.

small ball means you use guards and wings in your five on the floor. it does not necessarily mean that players are literally small. it can mean that a player maybe tall but is actually a wing that has guard skills.

so does Gilas have a choice to build a not small ball team that they\we think can be competitive?

yeah, that is why I am dumbfounded because our small ball is a sure mismatch as shown by teams like Dominican Republic whose "small" players are physically superior. A tall "small-ball" styled team will destroy our small ball.
