Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

  • Thread starter Thread starter IPC2
  • Start date Start date
two weeks is a "long" preparation now. oh well.

I said longer not long. They are complete since day 1 and majority have played together in other tournaments. Still some chemistry issues. Hope it will be better by FIBA Asia Cup

Rhenz Abando stat line: 11 points in 10 mins , 67% FG% including 3 out of 3 in the 3 point-area , also had 3 rebounds. Not bad for a NT first-timer

Carl shot 1 out 8 from the 3, but 4 /6 in the 2p area. Only had 3 rebounds but dished out 4 assists

PHL has made 12 threes vs Koreas 10.

FG% is just about equal.

But the most glaring disparity was in rebounding. PHL just grabbed 32, as against 50 of Korea

The only option i think for the Naturalized player spot is Lucero.. passport , availability and with Coach Gold at the bench its a no brainer . If Sedrick Barefield already got his physical passport then he is in for me.

We missed Ange, Kai, and to an extent, Balti. They could have been rebounding presences for us and negated the SoKors' length and athleticism.

We got 9 offensive rebounds of a possible 42, so 21% ORB%. On the other hand, SoKor got 17 of a possible 40 for an ORB% of 42.5%. They just weren't converting their second chances.

Just wait until Renz finished his duties at Letran... We have thought of Baltazar will stay here but he still decide to go overseas... And whether what will SMC farm teams will go places in PBA draft... But i think he will go overseas first because SMC might priority Sedrick Barefield....

Dude is 24. Ok Balti was 25..........but still, Rhenz IS overstaying in college. He already delivered championship. He should've just sign for LG in the KBL and forego the next NCAA season.

With the first pick in the 2023 PBA Draft the Terrafirma Dyip select

Hhhhmmm!!!! Will Terrafirma pass on Barefield next year if these two will join together? I don't think so... Terrafirma can only pick one of those two...

What does it matter...they'll be traded to Ginebra or San Mig soon enough...

I think U just made an understatement right there bro:cool: I say Abando's performance was pretty impresive for a first timer Gilas player. Even if it was just an exhibition game, U got a traditional tormentor South Korea right there as an opponent in its home turf, an opponent itching to get back at Gilas after getting blanked in two games last year. So I say, the Koreans really played hard & treated the exhibition game seriously.

Quiambao looks like your tito who came home from Saudi. Moustache and mallet. The only thing missing is the gold necklace

Man I won't complain, its about time one of our players doesn't look like a baby face college player or high schooler in recent years (not counting sea games team but who really counts that? lol)

UAAP should actually be the lead league in forming the National team, it has more of a logical pathway and pipeline of players for national team duties.. as an illustration the u16 and U18 Batang Gilas players to eventually move to the senior team is through UAAP teams that's where they get reps and develop). The Harris and Konov types are not div 1 prospects but more of Div2, and I find the combination of Gilas representation and UAAP, similar to exposure of Dwingt and Kouame is actually a better pathyway than US Div2 .

The natural gravitation are the best pros will move to the major league in the region like in Europe ACBC Spain and Oceania NBL, while the 2nd tier level stay home in the national domestic league, (like in Slovenia or NZ nBL, the PBA is similar it's a minor national league, so it can cater to the none national team players, 2nd tier level.

We need to change the structure and systemic issues of Philippine basketball..

Firstly, D2 is a path to D1. I wont blame anyone for trying D2 to showcase their talent. Heck, when it works out some end up not just in D1 but the NBA. Secondly, you are rating our Batang Gilas prospects poorly. No guarantee they are just D2 prospects. Lastly, the UAAP also has systemic problems, namely overstaying. Six years in college, like some top prospects did aint good. Yes, the UAAP has value but it doesn't deserve to be the primary focus. Its still the younger age groups for me that deserve this.

Just saying the pathway of fil foreign batang Gilas recruit followed by UAAP senior ( preferred stay for just 2 years), followed by Asian overseas league ( B League or KBL), is a sound one , it doesn't have to be for every prospect I mean if you're good enough to be a rotation player like Remy in Div 1 , why not . Thr problem with the latter is they don't end up with Gilas (reasons are known why)

If every year we have just 3 or 4 going through the pipeline above , that's a solid pipeline of Senior Gilas players

The solid div 1 rotation players and stars like Harper or Hepa can be our pipeline of naturalized player.

It's really a solid pipeline pathyway

SBP will be so stupid if they will bring back Coach Chot. Coach Nenad did a fine job even with a depleted line up without a naturalize center. Coach Nenad deserves the head coaching duties.

If the rumors are true that SMC is taking over then keeping Chot could be a strategic decision as to give SMC its choice of coach. If this is the case, just do it fast. We are wasting time if Chot is a lame duck.

This Korea vs Gilas invitation game is really backfiring on the PBA. I think the PBA thought that with little preparation time, no Kai, limited number of players, playing against home court Korea advantage, the young Gilas will suffer a humiliating defeat which will prove that PBA players and coaches will be the only solution and savior for Philippine basketball. Kaso, this young Gilas team fared well in their first game. This is now a big problem for the PBA and its cronies at the SBP.
