I'm iffy on SMC heading SBP, though.

Although they have developed Fran Yu, Jio Jalalon, Arvin Tolentino, and Aris Dionisio, can they translate that development to FIBA? Because, the way I see it, they have developed players for PBA, and not necessarily for FIBA.

Plus, with Chua around, are these guys willing to take advice from a Tab-caliber foreign coach, especially with regards to tactics and development?

^ ^ ^ ^ ^

I have no trust on SMC as well.

The SMC in the 80's, 90's & early 2000's is very different from the current SMC bunch of guys.

Despite of some blunders here & there, I still believe MVP group could do a better job than SMC.

Yeah. SMC under Danding was more open. And heck, even when Eala was with them. Hired Ron Jacobs and Rajko Toroman. But well, shit happened.

I agree... Remember Chua is one of the main people at BCAP that oppose foreign coaches, And Chua doesn't know how to transact with FIBA people... Can't mess with them... Can he appeal ineligible players for a exemption? Can he sacrifice his teams for FIBA tournaments? Can he open some changes at SBP? That is a question mark.... Even SBP some flows, they are better than BAP before... with BAP, we don't have a real team in womens division, We can't consistently bring youth teams in the past... Only problem on SBP is they allowed PBA to control SBP numerous times... Remember a good basketball program starts with a better/organize basketball leagues... PBA is a mess, so SBP affected on that PBA mess!!!!

So SMC manages UST basketball now. If UST manages to have a good development program under them, close to or exceeding the quality of Ateneo's program, capable of producing players that are fit for international games, talent-wise and position-wise, and has a coach with an offensive system capable of breaking Ateneo's defense or a defense capable of stopping Ateneo, then I might be more open to the possibility of SMC managing the NT program.

For now, I'm still iffy, and I still have my misgivings.

SMC is not really known for developing players. They have the money to get any player they want. Yes, Magnolia has developed Aries and maybe dela Rosa but it is the exception. Chua has a chance to prove that he can develop players and teams and not just manipulate them using SMCs clout in the PBA. The sagip kapatid and sagip ng farm team has never been so obvious under his time. Even SMBs dominance was peppered with biased calls. You even have some former players curiously playing bad in crucial times making SMC teams, particularly SMB, win.

Wouldnt be surprised if AJ Raval, BGSM's current muse, will be Long Hair's next side chick. To be fair, young Alfrancis is good looking

Then she better have a KY Jelly endorsement, and a soft chair to sit on during games. She probably see alot of "No Holes Barred" celebration every championship.

Just asking why its ok if Miami Heat does this strategy of letting teams hit 3pt than attack the basket. And still be called defensive team and Spo as defensive coach.

actually, i don't consider as a wise move, especially if you are against a good three-point team like the Golden State Warriors.

do this to Korea, Australia, and New Zealand, Gilas is lucky if they lose by 20 points.

We actually lost to SoKor when we left their shooters too open. When we got up into them, it's already too late. They already got into rhythm.

Guys, if for instance Jaime Malonzo happens to be a FIBA eligible Pinoy player, how serviceable do U think he is for Gilas? He struggled in his first few games with Northport last year but has been doing well since then. He could be a perfect combo forward for Gilas. I think offensively, he's better than either a prime Kelly Williams or Gabe Norwood, although defensively Norwood & Kelly are better than Malonzo.

Malonzo,Lucero,Koon,M.Philipps..if we could get these 4 as FIBA eligible, we can forget that we lose out on Kobe Paras & Parks as Gilas mainstays. These 4 with Kai,AJ,Dwight,Lopez&Heading, we should be set w/ this core for the next 10-12 years

i don't know but i stopped arguing things here just for the sake of argument. i saw with my two eyes how Korea beat Gilas with a barrage of three pointers. i don't see any justification why would a Gilas player leave a Korean shooter from beyond the arc when they can possibly hit 40%-50% from downtown.

SoKor actually shot 66% from 3 against us in 2017. Gabe- Abueva, and Japeth were our only competent defenders.

Boss Al have to rely on recruitment for UST. If he can recruit and/or develop a FIBA-style team in terms of players and coaches, there you go, probably a threat to Tab.

If UST can develop FIBA-quality players and good coaches that can do it internationally, then OK. At least we're advancing.

Hopefully they learned a lot and make adjustments.
I'm not really expecting much from Junior. It's better to set your expectations low these days.

I guess this applies to the senior team as well for the most part, and given the direction that we're headed.

Then why on a hell SBP didn't invite Edu this year? He's on summer vacation mode as of the moment...

Even if not on the team,at least include him in the scrimmages, make him feel that he's part of the team even tho he's not in the active roster.

Isnt he still injured???

Or maybe 50% injured.

But yes, at least invite him

Then if he decline due to injuries. Then be it

Here's the SoKor team that Gilas might face this week: https://twitter.com/heoball/status/1536834640287129600?t=Z6tQ7xFMEc3gag8kl7ktIg&s=19

[First Unit]
6'6" Raguna
6'8" Yeo JunSeok
6'7" Choi JunYong
6'4" Lee DaeSung
5'11" Heo Hoon

[Second Unit]
6'9" Kim JongKyu
6'8" Kang SangJae
6'6" Yang HongSeok
6'5" Moon JungHyun
6'1" Heo Ung

[Reserve]
6'6" Lee DaeHeon
6'8" Ha Yungi
6'8" Jang JaeSeok
6'7" Song KyoChang

Hyun Jung Lee begged off due to the NBA draft? Who do we watch out for?

Despite the shortish heights of their frontline, make no mistake, this team is big. Ra Gun A alone is a matchup nightmare, and Koume had a hard time guarding him last time

If ever SMC group takes over the program hopefully soon, I want Jeff Napa or Monteverde to handle the youth teams. Both very good in Development, Discipline, and Flexible with what pieces they have.

I would take Alfrancis Chua as SBP president if Tab does an Abueva and goes to Chua's side. Remember the hate between Chua and Abueva when they were at opposing sides? Chua is like Vince McMahon, even if you had bad blood with him, if you bring him good business then he will take you in. Tab will bring Chua victories and with Chua's mafia ways a Tab-Alfrancis team will make us lord it over Asia (as long as Australia doesn't compete) haha

If Boss Al is pragmatic, he'll put aside any pettiness and nationalism, and do whatever it takes to get Philippine basketball on track to compete with SoKor. Improving player development, and being forward-thinking when it comes to development and tactics.

Question is, will he be pragmatic enough to at least hire Tab and let him have a free hand in designing the program, from development to selecting his staff?

Kind of odd (or unsurprisingly) that we hardly get any tune up games w/Korea during the curse days but after beating them twice we now get this type of invites. If Chot were coaching they'd be very surprised that despite the almost similar lineup we'll be playing differently
