Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

  • Start date Start date
I agree that the only place in the multiverse that matters is here, and the only timeline that's relevant is right now.

But the FIBA ruling isn't set in stone yet, is it? I think FIBA is still looking for a common ground so its ruling can apply to other countries as well. i take it that if other teams will have players that have the same concerns as clarkson, FIBA might have a change of heart.

Well, maybe FIBA will have a change of heart. Maybe when Clarkson is already 45 yrs old:D

The thing is, if for instance FIBA would reconsider its stand on Clarkson, such case is more of an exception rather than a rule. Its like Clarkson's case could not be used as a precedent.

Problem is, those are big IF's.

How many times have these good people of SBP appealed before FIBA to recognize Clarkson as a Filipino local player & yet FIBA has ignored the appeal many times? Al Panlilio reminds of a persistent suitor na 10 beses nang na busted ng nililigawang babae pero kulit pa rin ng kulit sa babae!

There's that phrase called "move on".

it's actually a good point , an exception request that has already been made and denied cannot logically be viewed as the same in terms of chances as one that either does not have a decision yet or not even request applied yet officially.

shouldn't they be pursuing the Kouame exemption? He was developed here.

This for me makes more sense than persistently appealing for Clarkson's exemption. Age & availability definitely play huge factors in this discussion. Kouame is what, 24, while Clarkson is already 30? On availability, we can tap Kouame in tournaments like the Asia Cup & those window qualifiers of World Cup & Asia Cup. The same could not be said about Clarkson who is an NBA star. We can tap Clarkson for the World Cup tournament proper, but other than that, its a big question mark.

this is where objective and constructive feedback that are sound advise should be considered by the federation (especially if they're good ideas) , rather than be driven purely on stakeholder "group think" and what appeases them .. decisions should not be made based on who can speak loudest and more popular appealing to leaders.. this is when you fail to progress..

They want Clarkson recognized as local because Chot Reyes is reported looking for a new naturalized big. Most likely a dominant big man like Andrei Blatche.

Win now ('23 WC) and not long term matters for SBP including Chot. Also such dominant players can cover/make up for the poor system of Chot and insufficient team preparation.

In short Clarkson (if considered by FIBA as a local) & Blatche-type naturalized players could conceal Choke Reyes' shitty system.

Wait, that's our national team program? Sounds more like a national recruitment agency LOL..

If we win, we win inspite of Chot. We're already have a disadvantage at head coach so we need to make sure we have better players than our opponents.

You think Chot's coaching is going to elavate Kouame's game?

I wish so. I could only wish.

BTW, how did kouame perform during the 2nd window last February under coach Choke Reyes?

Against NZ which we lost to by 25, Kouame contributed 5 pts.

Philippines 63 – Ravena 23, Ramos 18, Bolick 10, Kouame 5, Pogoy 4, Rosario 2, Williams 1, Erram 0, Montalbo 0, Gomez de Liano 0, Navarro 0, Tungcab 0.

Going by Chot's logic, we need a super import that can score 25 points per game to win at least in the asian level.

AK34 and WillNav was under utilized during that very forgettable Feb. Window.

There you go!

I wonder how Gilas would have faired vs. South Korea in last year's 3rd window of the Asia Cup qualifiers had it was Choke Reyes who coached Gilas? That is given of course that Choke Reyes had the same preparation & training period with Gilas that coach Tab got.

Well he sucked under Chot. No sugarcoating it. He only posted 5 points on 5 shots and only got 4 rebounds.

We wouldve lost. First he would have relegated Balti as PF and backup C. No 3 pt shots. No perimeter play. Navarro would have barely played because he is not good enough as a DDO 3. Dwight would only be pre Gilas level Dwight. He was not impressive in the US and we could credit Tabs program for his development. Kai wouldve been limited to an abangers big. No leading the secondary break. No drives.

So Chot wouldve brought in his TNT boys, Pogoy, Rosario and Erram. Pogoy would have played 3. Even with Kouame and Kai, we wouldve been blownout by 20 to 30 pts.Hyun Jung Lee wouldve run circles on Troy

Losing by say 4 to 8 pts in both games would be acceptable for me. But losing by an average of 15 or more pts. in that 2-game series vs. Korea is unacceptable.

Developments of Yeo Jun-Seok and Moon Junghyun: https://twitter.com/heoball/status/1534759107692941312?s=20&t=FbWd2Z-R3aB-pD7lQz8Jig

'Yeo has evolve to a natural SF and displays high motor in both courts.'

'Moon is good on switch coverage and can defend multiple players.'

Yeo Jun-Seok is 6'8", and Moon Junghyun is a 6'5"-6'6" guard.

SoKor is already developing these kinds of players. I've yet to see these guys play on a high level in the senior level internationally, and I dunno how many similar players SoKor has, but this development concerns me.

Shows how they are at development compared to us. The closest we have are Balti and Dwight Ramos (who is a Fil-foreigner).

SBP should work more on trying to find and develop homegrowns that could approximate the players I mentioned. Scouting for Fil-foreigners and naturalization candidates is good and all, but we will need to develop the bulk of our homegrown prospects. And of course, work on tactics.

In the US, our SBP problems would be solved by asking help from some "Goodfellas." haha
