Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

Well, ayun. SBP's call. I dunno what to expect anymore.

Egoistic and narcissistic ,and maybe he has some psychological problem that he is not aware of his mistakes,i dont know. and he has influence from the top especially he is like a favorite son of mvp, magkamali man or tama. wala na tayo magagawa It's all in hands of SBP if they are brave enought to replace him and if sbp really cares for the national team to achieve success. Kawawa gilas sa tulad nya, they created a monster.

well, casual gilas fans are unwittingly enabling them by ignoring the elephant in the room, and that is the PBA trying to stay relevant through the NT with the blessing of SBP. They should be called out for shoving the PBA down the throats of the fans. If they want more people to embrace the PBA, they should strive to improve it first. synchronizing scheds so as not to conflict with fiba tourneys is a good start.

I have no qualms about using PBA talents if that's our only option as long as they're given enough preparation time, and that a competent foreign coach is overseeing the program. Unfortunately, if the agenda is to make the PBA relevant, then that entails getting a pinoy coach from one of the PBA teams, and the offense will probably still be centered on a high-scoring import -level naturalized player (clarkson?) as the rest of the team play second string. this was the formula that chot and cyg used when they had blatche and clarkson respectively. we already know this didn't work then. so why would it work now?

to top it all, he called the angry fans as bashers and haters. chot really has a thicked face.

And he has the gall to say to look into the big picture? I mean, does he think he has a shot at doing well in the next FIBA tournaments? Lol After what he has shown? After picking Pogoy and Kib over CJ freakin Perez!?

Guy, lets flood the SBP facebook account with negative comments about Choke Reyes & SBP people na rin

This partly explains my misgivings about SMC running the program. The agenda might just be to make the PBA relevant instead of having a long-term vision for the Gilas program.

While they have developed guys like Arvin Tolentino, Aris Dionisio, Ian Sangalang, etc., are they willing to sacrifice talent that's developed overseas, or develop a long-term program that makes players fit for international competition? Or would they just use tried and tested formulae and just make the PBA money? I mean, look at Letran, I don't think they're developing FIBA talents there. That might be a glimpse into how they view development. Plus, Chua's in charge, and I dunno how he'll view foreign coaches, or if he'll be as open to locals learning under foreigners, given his backlash to Tab's tactical immaturity comment. Dunno if he'll be as open as Kume Eala, who was open enough to have Rajko with Petron.

i don't know how this dismal performance as well as Chot's demeanor affect the gate attendance of PBA as well as that of Gilas. you know, Filipinos don't tolerate failures.

This is sadly the case. A lot of them are still big PBA fans, and won't acknowledge the connection between Gilas, the SBP, and the PBA. They think it's all Chot's fault. Mention the PBA and hundreds of laughing emojis will attach to your post.

Guys do you think that this comment will win me a prize later?

"Don't worry, Coach Chot and SBP. We will definitely bounce back! All of us are in support of Gilas! If only Dwight, Japhet, and Bolick were there, we would have won! Keep your chin up, the country loves you! LABAN Pilipinas, PUSO!"

You're commenting like hell, but you ain't posting that one. Hahahahahahaha.

I just couldn't resist HAHA. Chot gave me a migraine. Doing it for the country/people daw and so many BS. He even acted as if 3 months was okay for the WC. We are definitely screwed now.

Quinito selected my question. I was the one who asked the pool for 2023 World Cup ( name 5 each from PBA, College & overseas). Quinito quipped and said its too early.

SUMMARY OF CHOT'S INTERVIEW

Chot said

- He felt disappointed, knew he let the country down, and that's why he immediately took responsibility and accountability

- It's not end of the world

- Life goes on

- He's his own critic daw

- Could have played the bench more on Indonesia

- So many things he could have done on Indonesia

- Knew that Bolden was going to play, Didn't know how bolden would be played

- Quinito compared the Olympic streak of the US to our SEA games streak, it can't be forever daw (Gold) sabi ni quinito

- Chot again said that these things happen (losses)

- Chot said there's a winner and a loser and there's nothing we can do but face up to it and learn from the experience

- Chot said It is what it is

- Mentioned Kai, Clarkson, Dwight, Thirdy & Fajardo for 2023

- Blamed Dwight and Bolick's absence to the team's poor 3pt shooting.

- SEA nations are already close to our level and we need prep

- The team needs more speed daw (more ddo i guess)

- Long prep not possible but will have a minimum 3 month prep for WC lol

- FIBA schedules making it hard for preparation

- He didn't apply for this job, Big believer of Tab

- Serves at the pleasure of SBP leadership

- Will do his best

- Every player was grateful for the opportunity

- Knows that he is villified

- Thanks the people who personally sends him messages

- Knows that there are too much hate out there but knows that there is love also

- Does this job for us and to serve the country, Para sa bayan

Close issue, Chot is untouchable and narcissistic. No way SBP has guts to remove even with failures the favorite son of MVP. He might have some psychological , and egoistic issue but he is immune and protected from the top. Next in line is his son as head coach. SBP created a monster , and SBP and chot will not listen as they already have there own world that they know they are doing what is right.

Pero sayang si Tab. And in the past, toroman, we could have been great if only Coach chot did not enter the national basketball scene.

Rinse repeat. hahaha. Hay sana lang tlga umayos sila.

I think one reason malakas ang kapit ni Chot is that he has a good relationship with the PBA. I think the PBA wants to be relevant in the international scene and they think Chot is the better head coach to ensure that. The PBA was conspicuously unwilling to lend players in Tab's last stint. It's like they wanted to ensure the team didn't do well in the qualifiers by not lending them players. Or just lending them the Justine Chuas. But Tab won without PBA players with an all amateur team. That was a slap in the face to them. I am speculating that PBA has hinted that if Tab comes back that they won't be as supportive. I don't know what happened with MVP and Tab's talk. But I hope something changes. One is the PBA season is starting. Chot has to decide if he will coach the qualifiers and/or the Fiba Asia cup.

they can troll him. lol TNT's going to have way less fans.

There's a joke in PX. Lilima lang ang fans ng TNT. Trans: TNT has only 5 fans. And possibly many of them alter nicks of Robert :) . I don't know why this is. Maybe because they are a newer team. They have a lot of championships but somehow they don't capture the fans imagination. It's not just the team name I think. I was a S ta Lucia fan before primarily because of Espino. RDO is also a homegrown and arguably a better international player. But for some reason his PBA play didn't capture fans imagination much.

As for Tab, I think he should be influencing the youth team more than the senior team, as with Johan Cruyff with Barcelona, where he gave input to the club on how to develop football players and a style of play. The style of play and international development starts in the youth level anyways.

He should ideally be giving input on team defense, so that the players won't struggle with that once they reach senior level. Help 6'4"-6'7" players with potential become more versatile defenders, like Navarro or Baltazar.

Also, Pangilinan should assign him to teach younger coaches who have potential to do well. Coach Charles is in the MERALCO staff, and Tab knows him. Get others like coach Charles na rin among the MVP group.

If PHL NT cant have Tab back, i wish Tab to leave PHL na lang, and go coach an immediate up and coming country. Like Thailand. Then I wish Thailand will do what Rajko's Indonesia do to Al Panlilio/Chot Reyes' Gilas.

In TNT's FB fan page, there are speculations that TNT management and Mikey Williams cannot get in terms with Mikey's contract extension, and that Mikey, if he cant get his way, will go to BLeague.

First, did he sign just 1 year contract and that his contract is up? Second, i dont think he is eligible in the Asian Import Quota in the BLeague.

reason why MPIC has few fans: overpriced public utilities (telecom/expressway/electricity) being represented by the team, though Shell didnt have that issue, maybe due to Paras' popularity
