Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

AJ is a super question mark, we're assuming he would develop accordingly, has never even played for Gilas or even played a single minute at PF for Toledo. Assume na lang it's Kouame..(but he or Kai never have played PF).
So really for proven real roles Sameul and Vodanovich, vs guys like Batazar and Dwight would be the situation, which over a 7 game series is just too much. (Can you imagine Dwight or Baltazar getting minutes for the 36ers at forward, highly doubtful)

I just say TB would be favored in a 7 game series, whether it goes 5 or 7 games comes down to intangibles.

Ok kai and kouame. They actually play together in.the court against serbia and dom rep. So one of them was PF.

Hmmm. So it is the Forward Spot.

Bigs and Guards similar level for you?

Kai, Kouame, Parks are Australia Team C level players for you?

Yes it's really the forward spots ( as Chot says , we really need more size to help Kouame)
The big guards you mentioned (Thirdy and Parks), let's be honest they really have spent most of their careers as SFs , this is very different compared to Prewster who has spent all his life as exclusively combo guard.
Rustbatch is a specialist shooter (something which by nature is not Thirdy).
If you included Ili and LeAfa the natural guard disparity would be too obvious..

Well Tab considered Prewster better than Parks and Prewster is a c level player.
Kai if we're not talking in terms of potential (he's just 19) does have worst stats than Brisbane starting Center Harrison

Loe did outplay Kouame, and he and Samuel are C level players

Kouame and Kai playing together is a reflection of Gilas lack of an adequate legit size PF .
If Gilas had at their disposal someone like Jolibee , I doubt Kouame and Kai will ever see the court together.
Or if both were in both in the same NBL team like the 36ers no way will they play together

I am assuming the C level team plays for the NZ bubble I expect Kouame to play much better. I am not sure we can play Kai and Kouame together for a long time since NZ has mobile stretch centers. So I think we will see Balti and Tamayo at 4 also. Add Japeth to the mix and I think your 5-4 rotation will do decently against Team C NZ. Not sure why we are talking about a 7 game series.

The 5 starters in Feb should be there for Nz.
But expect reinforcements , like Ili, Le'afa, Te Rangi, Ngatai and Harrison , so more like half a B team and half a C team

It is just to address how big is the gap between Gilas ayers and NZ Team C Players.

In One Game Kasi. There is a possible upset. For ex. Gilas VS Serbia. Gilas COULD have won that game if we get some breaks at the end. But no one in their right minds will think that Gilas will beat Serbia in a 7 Game Series.

Yeah. Kai is only 19.

I think if Kai reach his prime. He can be in NZ Team A Level

I think a Prime 27 yrs old Kai can Compete against NZ team A Bigs.

I agree and he really is the only Pinoy who is of a level that can make a NZ A team in 2 years

Oh. In 2 years. So a 21/22 yrs old Kai will be a NZ Team A Level Player

NZ is only 27th in Fiba Rankings. But I think they are better than that. They are better than Iran who ranked 25th.

You can blame Fiba Rewarding rankings "By Zones"

But now Aus and NZ is combined with Asia. maybe NZ can at least climb up.

I think NZ is actually a Top 20 Fiba Country.

Kai at 22yrs old being a Top 20 Country National Team level player speaks a lot pf volume.

Anyway, It is expected. Since PERSONALLY, I think Kai is already in Nba by then.

There are a lot of players with taller parents compared to Kai's parents, for Kai to be 7'3 and decently mobile is really a miracle.. very rare indeed..it's rare already for anyone in the world , but especially rare for a Filipino.
And true enough that's why he's the only Pinoy homegrown that will get to that high level

Depends on his body actually. If in 2-3 years it's there, we'll be talking about lots of prime years for Kai.

Just in case Kai does not secure a full year NBA contract throughout his career, it's really not disappointing if one realizes how difficult it really is to make the NBA ..
We should still view Kai as a succes , I mean to be around top 100 prospect , play in Ignite and NBL, that's already a huge accomplishment

Look at it this way, Timmie who is NCAA star for Gonzaga and DJ Johnson a 36ers great may never get a full NBA contract. It's really no shame if one does not

Yeah. Will probably be true even after a decade or two.

Unless, his brother Timothy grows as tall as him, and develop his basketball in US. (Assuming he play the sport)

That is, if you all will still consider Timothy as Homegrown Filipino even if he will develop all his basketball development in US in this hypothetical scenario. Lol

no idea where i should post this:
Tungcab, Rangel get SBP release, join PBA teams

https://tiebreakertimes.com.ph/tbt/tungcab-rangel-get-sbp-release-join-pba-teams/237215

so what's the point of the Special Gilas draft then? plus looks like the Nteam for 2023 will be dominated by PBA players, goodbye long term player devt

It will be. I think the only Non Pba Player in 2023 Gilas will be

Naturalized Player (Whether JC or Ange)
Kai
AJ (if Healthy)

Those 3.

And then Balti, Tamayo, and maybe Caelum and Lopez would be at least in the pool.

I also think and expect Kai to be a Fiba Asia Top Player in years to come. As in Mythical 5 Fiba Asia level Player.

If Castro can, Kai can too.

Will be harder for Kai though since Australia and NZ is combined with Asia Now.

Will be the NZ team who will play in Fiba WC qualifiers in July 3 will be the same as the NZ team who will play in Fiba Asia Cup in July 17?

I just realized Next Window of Fiba WC Qualifiers, and Fiba Asia Cup is just 1 week apart.

I hope Gilas Will have the same core and lineup. Also, I hope the availability of our best players are ok

No there will be a few tweaks, mainly because the better older players like Abercrombie , Loe , Ili will not mind playing 1 window game at their home city in front of family, but would not be amenable to traveling to Jakarta Indonesia and stay their for 2 weeks. Remember the NZ Breakers players are tired and burnt out having been playing on the road for 5 months now ! (People do not understand how difficult that is)

Who started making excuses that their senior team did not have players and lack preperation last February?

Yup puro 2nd tier bench NBL players are sent and they live and die no excuses with the bench warmers who practice for 2 days
