Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

Hope Dave can defend as well. A year or two with Ateneo can help him with at least team defense.

Agree that he could make more sense than Pogoy or Wright, who have probably peaked, and have had generally poor track records in FIBA. Dave at 22 still has upside, and has room to improve.

This is why Gilas needs more stints like the King Abdullah tourney, that one exposed so much holes in Dwight and Thirdy’s games, the perfect stress test for the development of these players. There’s also no way Pogoy or Wright is better in international stage even at this point. Being undersized aside the former 2 plays old classic pinoy style bball tried and proven to fail while Dave looks to be evolving into a modern player like Dwight is. Pogoy and Wright in the international stage will be boxed in into a shallow space that their playstyle allows them to operate, their usage is very very very limited not only because of size but because of style, we’ve seen this again and again and again and I’m not willing to see it for the 400th time in the WC lmao. It’s the same case for all pba players except for the small guards like Castro and Romeo who operate with impunity, the playstyle of PBA players are very shallow and inflexible. This kind of limitation in pinoy players is further worsened by Chot's dribol drive system that lets these players remain the way they are instead of pointing them to the right direction like how Tab's program pointed Tamayo, Baltazar, Dwight and Navarro to the right direction. Local players have inherent flaws that a good system needs to fix.

Yeah, point the players in the right direction, to the correct international position for their size, and also their play style. That's honestly the reason why we preferred Tab. And if Tab left, that's why I preferred Jong, and Arespacochaga for others. There's still a better possibility that they could have continued the direction for this group, e. Good-sized players for the frontcourt positions, going to stars only when needed, ball movement, and solid defense, the right direction. 'Yun lang, there's the thing about preferring the Nieto twins and Go, and inclusion of a lot of Ateneo players.

Pero now, Chot is the coach, and given his history, a lot of us had reason to fear that this would be a definite shift in direction, and we might go back to Pinoy small ball, masyadong asa sa stars as a general rule. I just hope we can be proved wrong, and that Chot will continue the good aspects of Tab's program (good-sized lineups, solid defense, ball movement as the general rule). The program will influence how PH basketball is played, e.

He should have that same mentality against Iran, China and Korea, not against the anchovies in our region.

Exactly, he has to back that shit up against the tougher teams in Asia. Shoot at least decently for us, and play good defense against the likes of Iran, China, SoKor, Japan, Jordan, and Lebanon.

Then maybe we can have more competition at the off-guard spot. For me, Thirdy, Dwight, Heading, and Parks take precedence over him.

I dont know how you guys determine who are SF and who are SG. But I will rank our gilas prospects who can play both SG/SF. (Swings ata tawag nyo)

Based on Individual Talent:

Clarkson>Parks>Dwight>Thirdy>Oftana>Heading>Dave>Wright>Pogoy

Based on Gilas Fit and Fiba Fit

Clarkson>Dwight>Parks>Thirdy>Heading>Oftana>Dave>Wright>Pogoy

MY OWN GILAS HIEARCHY FOR EACH POSITION

Kiefer>Bolick>Heading>Scottie≥Alas>Panopio>Juan

SHOOTING GUARD:

Clarkson>Parks>Dwight>Perez>Thirdy>Dave>Wright>Pogoy

SMALL FORWARD

Oftana>Lopez>Caelum>Paras>Navarro

POWER FORWARD

Healthy AJ>Baltazar>Japeth>Tamayo>Quiambao>Troy

kiefer top pg.. tapos tayu haha:cool:.. its because of his physical features and his strength trumps the existence of a Jordan clarkson

MY BEST 13

PG
Kiefer ( B league)
Bolick (Pba)

SG:

Clarkson (Nba)
Parks (B league) [Thirdy if Parks declined)
Dwight (B league)

SF:

Oftana (pba)
Navarro/Lopez/Caelum/Paras (Whoever is the most deserving in 2023)

PF:
AJ Edu (US NCAA)
Japeth Aguilar (Pba)
Justine Baltazar (Uaap)

C:
Kai Sotto (NBL)
Junmar Fajardo (Pba)
Ange Kouame (US NCAA)

PS: 13 Since We will need to choose between JC and Ange. It will be cut to 12.

PSS: If it is only a perfect world. I hope Wright/Pogoy will noy be chosen over Parks/Dwight/Thirdy. Come on.

Hater din ako of Kiefer last 2019.

But I cannot deny he is really the top Gilas PG for 2023. (Talent, International Experience, Used playing with Good Bigs in pnr, decent size (at least not under 6 feet))

I think Kief and bolick will fit DDO

Really kiefer can prove me wrong..but really conditioning and defense is premium..

With the way he is playing and experiencing in B league. I bet he is the most conditioned among our Gilas PG prospects.

We saw how conditioned Dwight and Thirdy are compared to their teammates last window.

Anyway, who is ur top pg then? Bolick? Panopio? juan? heading?

I consider JC as SG kasi haha. Especially a scorer SG.

So I cant classify him as pg.

Mobtalbo. Lol.

Kidding aside, I think he will go for best talent available.thats why I predict Kiefer and Bolick

As much as we dont like coach chot. I am sure he will not choose the nietos or belangels of the world in wc.

He’d probably choose jio jalalon and mark barroca over nieto or belangel :D

Mine would be similar. Parks is out because of bad working relations with MVP group. Oftana is out because he is not healthy yet. Same with Edu.

My 12 based on current status and performance. I would have liked Lepalam to be back in the pool. We need 6'7,6'8 guys who could play

PG:
Kiefer
Bolick

SG:
Dwight
Wright
Perez

SF:
Navarro

PF:
Japeth Aguilar
Justine Baltazar
Erram

C:
Kai Sotto
Junmar Fajardo
Ange Kouame

On the cusp would be:
Dave: SG
Carl: PF
Oftana: SF, if he gets healthy

Harper Jr who has a chance to be drafted this year, i think the SBP should seriously consider tapping him as part of our NP pool of players by getting him a Philippine passport ASAP. You never know Harper as an option may provide dividends in the next 12 years

there is your SF right there. ( a clear Gilas need)

My 5 for Gilas

Kai
Harper Jr
Dwight
Parks
Heading

emphasis on pace and space (outside shooting) , versatility and dynamic shooting of the bounce

Owww!! I thought Ron Jr. already got his PH pass after his 16th birthday. Oh Well…

I actually don't know for sure, can check...
further to that if the SBP is to focus on one player to get an exception , i would focus on Harper jr as his availability is for the next 10 years ( 3 world cups )

That's a small ball 5 there, a. Good defensive versatility from 2 to 4. They can switch positions. We can have Dwight and Parks handle the ball.

If only that lineup could realistically play.
