Hope Dave can defend as well. A year or two with Ateneo can help him with at least team defense.
Agree that he could make more sense than Pogoy or Wright, who have probably peaked, and have had generally poor track records in FIBA. Dave at 22 still has upside, and has room to improve.
This is why Gilas needs more stints like the King Abdullah tourney, that one exposed so much holes in Dwight and Thirdy’s games, the perfect stress test for the development of these players. There’s also no way Pogoy or Wright is better in international stage even at this point. Being undersized aside the former 2 plays old classic pinoy style bball tried and proven to fail while Dave looks to be evolving into a modern player like Dwight is. Pogoy and Wright in the international stage will be boxed in into a shallow space that their playstyle allows them to operate, their usage is very very very limited not only because of size but because of style, we’ve seen this again and again and again and I’m not willing to see it for the 400th time in the WC lmao. It’s the same case for all pba players except for the small guards like Castro and Romeo who operate with impunity, the playstyle of PBA players are very shallow and inflexible. This kind of limitation in pinoy players is further worsened by Chot's dribol drive system that lets these players remain the way they are instead of pointing them to the right direction like how Tab's program pointed Tamayo, Baltazar, Dwight and Navarro to the right direction. Local players have inherent flaws that a good system needs to fix.
