Yup why because guy like him who has ankle injury issues baka bineybi na at pinag sentro to preserve him in the pros/college... pero kahit parang slowmo:cool: laru niya na ipasok parin siya as combo forward sa Gilas (kasi ganun din namn mga 3 at 4 sa europe matipid ang agalawan)..

He was preserved by Monteverde. It is Quiambao who started in their last season and IRC plays more minutes. Internationally, defensively he is a negative but he brings tenacity and creativity on offense.

Hopefully we can see more 6'6"-6'7" players who play like forwards in the mold of Carl and Balti in the future. Carl on offense, and Balti on defense.

Might see a combination of the both of them in the future. I hope.

It’s a generational thing.

Kids born after ‘00 grew up watching a different NBA than us folks born in the 80s/90s. Position-less and guard heavy basketball regardless of your height is the name of the game.

he pletting him go mark telan..(which is still his comparison up to this day) Mark Telan sidestep is a beauty sana in modern game

Hay, nako. A lot of us now are down on the Gilas program after Tab was replaced, myself included. We don't know if players will still be developed for the international game, similar to what Tab did.

This is gonna be painful. I pray that I'm wrong.

Which players' development for the international game do we owe Tab? I'd say Baltazar, definitely that one. Who else did he, by handling Gilas, were turned from a typical pinoy baller into an international one

Not just the talent level, it's the playing position of the players, and the lineup size as well. Like, 6'4" Dwight at SG, 6'6" Navarro at SF from a small-ball 4, 6'7" Tamayo at SF/PF (although his SF is in spurts).

You think a lineup with Dwight at SG and either two of Navarro/Baltazar/Tamayo at the forwards, or at least a smilar-sized lineup would be possible under another coach, other than maybe Jong or Tim Cone?

no. but for 2027 WC, yes..

Yeah, that's how I see it.
Imagine a legit 6-foot-4 shooting guard in Dave Ildefonso for the Gilas team. I see Dave as a regular fixture of Gilas starting with the window qualifiers of the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup & onwards.

his game to me translates better to FIBA compared to Thirdy.. just my opinion, as such smart national teams, include a young prospect like Dave early rather than later . to me it makes no sense if you include someone like Pogoy or Wriight in lieu of Dave for 2023, Konting long term vision naman.. this isn't the NBA were you need to play vets LOL

long term vision and SBP? you in the wrong universe mate

Is dave idelfonso a serious prospect for the 2023 WC team ? yes or no?

I will put him in the pool for 2023. With how decently he played in the Abdullah cup and in the UAAP its clear he is improving at a fast pace. He has good shooting, decent handles and vision. And decent defense. He is a bit shorter Dwight but in some ways can be better than Dwight. He already has the body to compete at the seniors. If used well he might do better than Pogoy already

Dave always had a good touch from the 3pt line since HS. that's his plus. i would like Gilas to have a pool of college\HS students and even non-PBA players if someone deserves a look.

Dave was on the way to regressing to PF. Now he is in the path to be an international SG or combo guard. Dwight was not this good in the US. Literally all the team have their own individual programs with the goal of equipping them for international size roles. Baltazar was the most obvious one but if Tab continue we would have seen the guys continue on this process.

Yes. But he lost it somehow in college and became a volume chucker. In his first Gilas games you could see him struggling with his role.

yup, but as long as his future coaches would give him open looks, he will take and make them. % nlng titignan natin. NU really needed him to score at all cost. same with Parks before.

I would have liked to see Cansino and Quiambao enter Tab's program, to be honest. More Point Cansino, who has shown he can defend both guard positions, and probably Quiambao would have a chance to be converted to a combo forward.

Lazaro could develop into a good defensive wing for Gilas. Oh, what could have been.

Here is very simple observation, you cannot tell me both Dave Idelfonso and Tamayo play the same position in UAAP and both are wings LOL. There is a big difference from what is expected of how Dave plays compared to Tamayo in UP, they have different roles period..

That is the main problem actually with Chots DDO. The SF needs to be a able to breakdown his man. It requires more advanced dribbling skills and agility than what our converted SFs have. Navarro is arguably the most agile and has the best handles among Carl and Balti but he is not good enough to breakdown his man. Instead in the recent game he was forced to throw up 3s under duress because thats what DDO needs him to do. Without skilled big guards like Norwood was in college, DDO will be left with smaller than average wings. Even Dwight, at 6'4-6'5 is small for an international wing. A guy like Balti with his wingspan and decent laterals can give us a very good wing defender internationally. But with DDO he will get stuck at PF.

Hope Dave can defend as well. A year or two with Ateneo can help him with at least team defense.

Agree that he could make more sense than Pogoy or Wright, who have probably peaked, and have had generally poor track records in FIBA. Dave at 22 still has upside, and has room to improve.

My thing has always been that since we are hosting then we put our best foot forward for 2023 than a hard turn towards grassroots after unless we make the Olympics then the timeline shifts to 2024.

If Pogoy or Wright are marginally better than Dave then I have no problem going with them.
