Who is the Most Talented Asian SF Gilas Faced in 2011-2019?

Bahrami (Iran)
El Khatib (Lebanon)
TJ Moon (Korea)
Other (???)

PS: Don't include Oceania

PSS: Usually We have another guard at 3. Our only Natural SF was Gabe.

Haha A 50 year old Fadi el Khatib would probably destroy our Gilas "PBA superstars" team on his own. That guy was unstoppable last time Gilas faced him. He was just bullying his way to score and our guys could not do anything but foul him and OF COURSE FADI IS A GREAT FREE THROW SHOOTER unlike Filipinos who treat free throws as a chore.

Just check and rewatched some 2014 and 2019 WC. Ofc, Dray was our Best Player.

But for locals it is:

2014: Alapag

2019: Perez, Bolick

That's why I like to reward Both Perez and Bolick to be in Gilas 2023 Lineup. I think they deserve anothe r stint.
I know they are pba players, and ibn generally hates pba. But Perez and Bolick along with Oftana are pba players who Imo are needed for WC. (Anyway with Coach Chot, I know they will be chosen)

That 30 players lineup will be mixed naman of pba, b league, t1 league, NBL NZ, NBL Aus, US NCAA, Collegiate.
I am really eager and excited to know who are in the 30 man pool.

Privacy pa daw kasi, because players and their respective teams may decline. Lol

In short, they do not want people/fans to know who are the players invited, but declined by the team or the player utself.

I have mixed emotions, honestly, about the lineup. Kinda excited for the reinforcements, especially the guards, and a little worried that some positions might not get filled by the right players, specifically at the SF position.

Hoping for the best.

Bigs are set. Kai and Aj (if healthy). Then Ange (If he is NP). If Ange out, Maybe Pba bigs like Japeth can be there for backup.

Combo Forwards: Tamayo and Baltazar sana e. But Coach chot may favor Troy.

Point Guars: Kiefer, Bolick, And then maybe Heading

Swings will be inreresting:

Oftana, Dwight, Thirdy, Dave, Navarro, Tuffin, Paras, Lopez Adams(?), Parks(?), Quiambao(?), Pogoy, Wright, and Perez.

Very competitive Swing Pool actually if they will be all in mix

JAPAN sent a relatively tall team to the FIBA U19 WC, average height is 6'5. And with more than a couple of mixed-race players, which will be the norm now in Japan Basketball NT

wow. for Japan. the pipeline is there... this will just continue... with the players they churn out, ( volume of players developed is really a good indicator )

That is why our recent Gilas team is a breath of fresh air , in the right direction

And I hope Gilas continues in this right direction. We already have local talents that are tall and good enough to be able to play the SF and PF positions, to add to the ones we already have for Gilas.

We will have some versatility on our side, and will continue to do so. As for the bigs, they may be versatlie, have a post game, or maybe both. These are exciting times.

This is an exciting time. The best thing is, there might be other potentially versatile kids in those height ranges that are not yet in the team. Hopefully they get discovered and invited to the Gilas pool eventually.

However, as exciting as I find our newfound two-way versatility to be, it will have to win consistently in order for that versatility to stay with us. I hope we do win, though, and I'm feeling pretty confident this upcoming WC qualifiers. The Asia Cup will be the real test, though.

I only hope that our versatile guys are available for at least the main tournament, and are with teams that are willing to lend them for that tournament.

The past developments got me thinking and asking. What now of our versatile identity of players ranging from 6'4"-6'8" at the 2, 3, and 4 positions (ala Dwight, Navarro, Baltazar, Tamayo)? What about that blueprint? I hope Chot can retain this.

Oftana, Lebron, and in the future, Caelum could be good additions to this versatile identity. I hope we can get all three in the program long-term.

Here's a Chot appearance in the Quinito show: https://youtu.be/R9SoDaySuO4

Around the 33:28 mark, Chot said that Navarro, Caelum, Oftana, and Lebron are candidates for the SEA Games, but them making the final lineup is another question.

Hope Lebron and Caelum make that lineup. Even Oftana.

With this development, this might mean that Caelum, Lebron, Navarro, and Oftana are all part of Chot's 30-player list. Hope they can play in the windows, and by chance be part of the FIBA Asia Cup final 12, especially in the case of Oftana and another of these players.

Again. Imagine if Caelum is chosen. And Lebron isnt. Lmao.

Jokes aside,

We hope Caelum and Lebron will be both have the opprtunity to play in this tournaments. They are both our Potential Wings.

Sotto and Pogoy in Gilas 30 Man pool according to a "reliable source"

"Pogoy will be there, especially those who played in the qualifiers. (With Kai,) they are still looking for his availability,” the source said, speaking on the condition of anonymity for lack of green light from Reyes and the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas."

“The cadets are around eight or nine only, then the rest are PBA players.”

Hmm. So the composition will be like this:

Pba Players - 20
Cadets - 9
NP - 1

This pool is for SEA GAMES and probably Next Window. Maybe even Fiba Asia Cup.

NP - is obviously Ange

Cadets - I will guess Kai, Dwight, Thirdy, Lebron, Caelum, Navarro, Baltazar, Tamayo, AJ(if healthy).
(If AJ not healthy, maybe heading or panopio)

Pba - I think these guys are wriiten:
Kiefer, Bolick, Oftana, Perez, Japeth, JMF, Pogoy, Troy, Wright, Erram + 10 more pba players.

PS: I considered Kief as pba because looks like sbp/coch chot consider him as too.

I think Ange is part of the cadets. Might be in lieu of AJ. The other 8, though, might be part. Hope Tamayo and Balti are part also of that list, even if they can only be available for the June/July window, Asia Cup, and the August window.

And the sureball ones mentioned are Kai ("cadet"), Troy (PBA), Erram (PBA), Kouame ("cadets"), and Pogoy (PBA). So 6-7 more "cadets", 18-19 PBA players.

P.S. I put quotation marks on "cadets," because really, those guys are seniors already when it comes to Gilas.

when do you become not a cadet? when you are part of the PBA?
my understanding is there is senior team as opposed to age restricted teams (youth). some countries have a development team under the core players. we only have Gilas for months now.

In my opinion, you're not a cadet if you've played already for the senior team.

In gilas context
Seniors - 28-35yo
Youth/Cadets (in seniors lineup) - 24-27yo

facepalm, in the euro and americas context, 24-27 yo is the prime years/prime window..
shouldn't youth/cadet team be composed of 16-22 yo? reminds me of Luka, Tiaggo Splitter or even Argentina's golden generation who represented their respective countries in senior tournaments even as teenagers

That's a way to put it. Hahahahahaha.

Hay, nako. I hope that minimum age is lower in the near future. I think we should try to promote as many talented 18-20-year olds as we can.

Could we consider Makoto Hiejima as a small forward? I think he played as a 3 most of the time.

I think he is a guard. I consider though, Takehiko Orimo in his prime a better Japanese guard than Hiejima.

I think the definition of Senior in the current cadet is a player who is signed with the PBA and they can control.

Haven't heard Ken Tuffin's name in a while. Any news linking him and SBP lately?

So we go to the crux of the matter which is actually at the heart of our countrys underdevelopment. Everybody just wants their piece of the pie, whether its HS, college or the PBA. Everyone wants their team to be the best rather than whats good for the player or basketball state of the country. You have a Raven Cortez packing on muscles and blowing up his kneeo. You Carl packing up muscles early on and developing a seemingly chronic ankle ailment. You have players playing 6 years in college until they are 26. You have the best player of his generation packing extra weight and extra minutes therefore being pang PBA lang so his team can be the most dominant AFC team ever.

All the while, the players become pang pba lang. Everybody cries why our players are stout and slow and the Filfors fast, when everybody is telling their tallest player to pack on weight so the team can win.

Everybody cries out when our players become good enough to play for other leagues. Shamlessly lie that these players will not be released for the country when it is the local league and colleges that dont release their players.

All they have done is just for their local team, their local league, when promoting a bald lie that they are concerned for the country.

You have one of your executives saying it is better to go Filipino for the world cup, when he forced his untalented son to the world cup in exchange probably for sponsoring team. When apparently his son replaced Kobe Paras

Then when a foreigner shows amazing results, without using thr countrys so called best players, by developing the young players into internstional level. Everybody is quietly afraid because their own teams will lose out on the young players. They kick him out. Because it is better for our players to be slow and unskilled and our basketball bad, than their teams and leagues to lose out.

those “basketball leaders” doesn’t know what basketball program is.. even MVP himself

Yeah, which is really kinda sad. Will these guys realize that what's good for the country is good for our business as well?

Honestly, why do I get GarPax Bulls vibes or Kings vibes from this current SBP direction?

I hope I'm wrong, though.

We are knocking our Basketball System.

But what are your suggestions? (Not that they will listen to us, pero malay nyo may nagbabasa dito. Lol)

Based on your comments:

1. Same System From Cadets to Seniors

2. Full Time National Team with few hugots

3. Longer Preparation

4. Limit Politics. (Highly doubt it though)

I wonder of other Asian Basketball Powerhouse suffer from politics too. I think they do too, but not as big as itvis in our country
