Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

If SBP had any foresight and needed to get an exception for an ineligible. They should focus on a player like Harper Jr who could represent us in 3 World cups up to 2031.

It's really short sighted to just put all your eggs in one basket and get an exception for Clarkson who can only play in August 2023 .
It's actually quite stupid...from a long term investment standpoint.
Which you think the SBP should be thinking off.

This is the systemic problem I'm talking about.
We continue to make the same mistakes. very short sighted

It might happen especially he’s under the tutelage of his father. And the father is sbp’s favourite.

Tuta is a better word.

So basically, tuloy ang guard-driven system, when some of the NT's core pieces are 4s and 5s? Hay, nako.

It sort of makes sense as I don't see us producing 6'9+ small forwards consistently every generation.

Basically, we will stick to a 4 out 1 in offense with either DDO or Swing. Wala naman problema yun. The issue is with Chot sticking to one ineffective offensive set for 40 minutes straight and hoping for player A to go super saiyan. This is classic hero ball.

DDO can be our main offensive set pero kailangan din ng variety in order to be unpredictable. This was highlighted by Tab a year back.

Honestly, our offense under CTB was already a 4 out 1 in Offense. Mas maganda lang flow ng offensa at mas disciplined. Less bara bara plays. The players also had good size. Our only issue was the PG. Belangel and RJ were simply not the best options back then.

agree.
and Kiefer and Dalph if he can stay for a month in the off season should help with the PG spot. then playmaking by commission after them. Thirdy and Dwight are not playmakers but can help take care of the ball and move it around. same with Heading and even Tuffin. i think if we really want to go young, Anonuevo should be someone Gilas can have a lookas well. and all of these are non PBA. so some of them should be available at particular games.

Fine if it's the base system. However, you'll need to tweak, depending on the personnel. We'll consistently produce good guards, but when we have good wings or good bigs, we'll need to involve them too.

Marcial, Reyes meet, tackle Gilas schedule, players' pool for FIBA World Cup: https://www.pba.ph/news/marcial-reyes-meet-tackle-gilas-schedule-players-pool-for-fiba-world-cup

OK, the PBA is now coming to the rescue.

Please, from the PBA, I hope the RIGHT PLAYERS for every position will be called to the pool, whether for the FIBA Asia Cup or the WC, or even the windows. The only PBA players that I think are FIBA-fit are Japeth, June Mar, Oftana, Perez, Bolick, Marcio, and Romeo. Probably Arvin Tolentino as well.

Oh. 30 players Pool.

Pba + Cadets.

Interesting. I hope I will like the Players included.

Hopefully it is more of cadets. But obviously it will be more pba. Hehe.

Anyway, Let's wait for the pool na lang.

Di talaga papayag pba that they will not be part of 2023 WC especially hosted by us

Using the Gilas Pilipinas to show that PBA is still alive and kicking(after exodus of good amateur basketball players to overseas and withdrawal of Alaska in the PBA)..:o

Basta, I think the following should be in the pool, sort of non-negotiable: Kai, Oftana, Tamayo, Baltazar, Lebron, Navarro, Kouame, Dwight, Thirdy, Bolick, and Kiefer.

The non-negotiables, along with the other FIBA-fit PBA players, would be 17, all in all. 13 slots left. It's probably a pipe dream, but I do hope some youngsters make it like CJ Cansino (though I fear he would be more 2/3 than combo guard with Chot as coach), Cholo Anonuevo, Kevin Quiambao, Ice Hontiveros, Raven Cortez, Jordi GDL, Jonnel Policarpio, at least for the June/July and August WC windows.

If my pipe dream comes true, that's 7 left for the PBA players. So that's where realistically, Pogoy, Troy, Scottie, LA, Castro, Erram, and Beau come in.

non pba/amateur players should be

NBL - Kai
NZ NBL - Tuffin
Japayukis - BRP jr. (hope), Kief, ferdinand, dweet
T1 - Heading
UAAP - Tamayo, Balty, Ange, Belangel, Rjay, dave ildefonso
US NCAA - Edu, Dalph

The rest PBA players (Perez, Bolick, Oftana should be in the pool)

Forgot to account for Heading, AJ, and Dalph, as well as RJ and Dave. Might revise my "pipe dream" pool.

So you have 16-18 non-negotiables. This is a pretty good pool, with the PBA players.

not a bad list, the current stars are either non eligible like Mikey, Perkins, Malonzo, CStan, or too old like Abueva, Cabagnot, Lee, Castro etc.. You could actually add Greggy boy to the list, sayang height eh
