Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

Theres a bright side in anything....shooting of thirdy still spotty but was able to utilize it now.. Dwight able to get hustle points again...tamang timpla lang ng tab offense at dribble drive..

Defense sucks though. Haha. Tatangkad na nga ng shooters hinde pa chachallenge or nawala sa assignment. Oh well

I am telling you guys, I don't think Chot will use these non-bearing windows for development. That's just not him. I really thought that when he was rehired that he was a changed man. He said that he would adjust to the Gilas cadets, but in the end, we all know what happened. It was insane on my part to believe that guy. I think the earliest we can get rid of SBP is after the World Cup. For us guys, we have to swallow that Chot will be the coach no matter how much he performs, for better or for worse. I hope SBP at least puts Jong as the HC, with Nenad as his assistant. At least there would be some sort of continuity. If SBP were competent, then they would have done this at least.

Especially if we get soundly humiliated in 2023. If we fuck this up, we'd call for their heads.

But come on, we need something.

With 18 months left before the World Cup, I agree no more experimental and developmental lineups. Send the best possible Philippine team. Cohesion and chemistry are the big factors Chot should address this early.

Well, all right. But I think that we should already go with the best and most FIBA-fit Gilas teams. For the Asia Cup and the WC.

From the PBA, only those with good international track records should be in, and those with real potential to play in FIBA tournaments.

To be fair after 2019 WC the following players have been identified and developed as 2023 shoo ins

Thirdy
Dwight
Baltazar
Kouame
Kai

Can argue Bolick and Kiefer have emerged after 2019 WC

Not perfect but at least ..

That's 7 shoo ins , so just need to find 5 more

The pool for me would be Perez, Oftana, Tamayo, Heading, Juan, Romeo, then possibly June Mar, Japeth, Marcio, Dave Ildefonso. Probable additions would be Arvin Tolentino and Abarrientos, maybe AJ.

Forgive me for being stubborn, but the PBA names there, those are the only PBA names I can consider.

All I can say is: Nakakatamad talagang mag post ngayon.

Philippine basketball hasn't learned its lesson all these years/decades.

I agree with you. Some of us here having been posting or lurking since the Gilas 1 days. That's more than a decade already and the Philippine basketball landscape is not much different

Katangahan 100. Hay, nako. This is bullshit. Once there's a glimmer of hope, back to bullshit.

I'm relatively new here, but I'm no stranger to disappointment, especially in Philippine basketball.

Realistic Pool, probably:

Guards: Kiefer, Bolick, Dwight, Perez, Romeo, Lee, Lassiter, Clarkson
Wings: Abueva, Pogoy, Thirdy
Forwards: Tamayo, Baltazar, Troy
Bigs: Kai, Kouame, Japeth, June Mar, Erram

Hay, nako.

I agree. PBA would want to make sure that they remain relevant and be the stars of the Gilas team with the non-PBA members to serve as support only. At the same time, PBA would not want to sacrifice their schedules that much. So expect PBA stars to be the core of WC 2023 (maybe 2 months of practice but at the same time, they share the time while serving their PBA mother team).

Well, 2 months preparation, at least.

I fear, though that the PBA would do another 2019 and give Gilas too little time to prepare. I dunno.

Well for the world cup or world competitiveness, if the powers that be are unwilling to make systemic changes of how they do things, then maybe we should just temper our expectations , and the Philippines will basically play at the level it has from 2002 to 2022 ( present) and ranked 5th Asian team,. if that means we can keep status quo entertainment in the PBA and college leagues, business as usual. that isn't bad and forget aspiring for greater heights

i for one am signing off from that aspiration ( a competitive world team) , as they say the definition of insanity is .... , so why fool ourselves on aspiring for the change when we continue to do the same thing, nope , wasn't born yesterday

So much for giving us hope. Hopefully Filipinos going abroad will do well to make us proud, since the federation is not really doing its job for the fans. And I hope there will be more Filipinos going abroad.

Still, I hope that these fuckwads have some sense and try doing their best to be competitive in the world level, and not give me reasons to drink or anything to forget what shit I witness in games.

We need to make more noise, not just noise in social media.

What about having a UAAP like cheer with drums and all.....but our chants would be "We Want Baldwin" or "SBP Don't Care About the Country" quite corny but the "We want Baldwin" chants last night was just a few people. If we can only do this in coordination.

Chot doesn't care. You think someone like that got into his position by being thin skinned? He's probably enjoying all the extra attention his currently getting

Even that petition is next to useless. This will cone down to MVP. I hope he gets to wake up soon and realize his mistake.

Maybe there are some rich fans here, willing to put a big full page ad sa Philippine Star para kita agad ni MVP

2014 WORLD CUP GILAS (PPG)

Andray Blatche - 21.2
Jimmy Alapag - 9.2
Junmar Fajardo - 6.6
Jayson Castro - 6.5
Ranidel De Ocampo -6.2
La Tenorio - 6.2

2019 WORLD CUP GILAS (PPG)

Andray Blatche - 15.8
CJ Perez - 12.6
Robert Bolick - 8.6
Junmar Fajardo -7.0
Paul Lee - 5.2

I just noticed that in both 2014 WC, there are no other player who averaged in double digits aside from Dray (our NP)

I wonder if that will be the case for 2023. No offense to Ange, but he is not a NP type of player who is like a go to guy. I think JC will get the nod. But if ever it will be Ange.

I hope a much balance scoring from everyone. I bet it will be the guards Kiefer, Bolick Dwight, Thirdy who would initiate offense. I just hope Kai, AJ, Balti, and Tamayo will not be reduce to abangers role

These months will be a painful waiting game. Who will be selected for the next window and the Asia Cup, what will be the system?

My Ideal Chot Reyes Team

C; Angelo Kouame
F: Troy Rosario
F: CJ Perez
G: Dwight Ramos
G: Terrence Romeo

Bench

C: Greg Slaughter if Kai Sotto ain't available
F: Japeth Aguilar
F: Calvin Abueva
G: Matthew Wright
G: Jayson Castro if Kiefer Ravena ain't available
G: RR Pogoy
F: Renz Abando

If this is the lineup for the Asia Cup and WC, or something similar, I wouldn't be surprised. But it's too small on the wings.

He is not afraid and he is stubborn because he is the right hand of MVP and one of MVP favorite son. I dont mind if Coach chot is coach but the problem is he continues an ineffective system, and he does not listen to his advisers, he still insist that dreaded small ball, dribble drive, iso bara bara system , that is well scouted already by top teams in the world.

And worse he is not good in developing big guards and stretch fours compared to Coach tab who really wants to train our players to be tall pg , sg and tall small forwards. My good ness look what had happened even against india, he turned dwight into a small forward or worse a powerforward in some instances, and same with Thirdy he turned him into small forward.

Instead of having tall 5 like for example for me its Bolick, Dwight, Navaroo, Ange, Troy, Coach chot again uses two small guards and turn dwight into a forward. wow, were is the development in that? This suppose to me non bearing games since we are already qualified, he should have experimented a bit.

Been gone a while, anyone can give me a quick recap please about CTB's resignation and Chot's return? The official press where CTB needs to focus on ADMU smells fishy. Thanks to anyone who'll respond.
