Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

More interested in Rick Olivares claiming there is no preseason. I wonder who is right him or Quinito? they both work for Philstar as well.

On Kouame, Koon, Ballungay; Ill believe it when I see it. FIBA rules are still trash and will not be redeemed by vague or unwritten rules.

Send him to Japan LoL

Anyway the greg slatughtr exceptionn.approach of recruiting passport holders based overseas to play as FIBA locals is what every federation does . No need to reinvent the wheel. .
It's what works and continue to do more ..

Vertically integrated system for Gilas

https://www.philstar.com/sports/2022/02/08/2159238/vertically-integrated-system-gilas

Adding the TNT players is a boost. “Hindi sila kinikilabutan kasi sanay na sa international competition,” he said. “We’ve got RR (Pogoy), Troy (Rosario), Poy (Erram), Kelly (Williams) and everyone else should be ready, including Kib (Montalbo), CBC (Carl Bryan Cruz), Brian (Heruela), Glenn (Khobuntin) and Matt (Ganuelas Rosser) whom I originally recruited for Gilas years back. Mikey (Williams), unfortunately, isn’t eligible.

With the addition of Ange, Dwight, Navarro, and anyone of those other available Gilas cadets, this team I think would be good enough to beat tier-3 Asia-Pacific teams like JPN, LIB, and JOR, etc. but would be 50-50 or worse against tier-2 teams like IRI, CHN, SK, and NZL.

If we can keep inviting younger players to the pool and honing their games throughout the windows, we're good as far as long term goes.

Nope. His case will be weaker.

Greg have stronger case because he played college ball and pro ball here in our country

Chot plans to sit down with the PBA for next moves after this Feb window: http://tbti.me/s20e40

There might be plans to add PBA players, but I hope that the veterans will be added only for the Asian Games, FIBA Asia Cup, and the World Cup. For now, if there are PBA players, I think they should just go with guys like Calvin Oftana, Arvin Tolentino, Robert Bolick, CJ Perez, and probably Javee Mocon, who still have a chance to develop, even as they enter their prime years.

For the rest of the senior tournaments (FIBA WC windows, SEA Games), just keep going with the amateur players. Long-term development should still be the goal.

There's a strong chance the Gilas special draftees like Go and Suerte will be reintegrated to the program.

So they have a shortage of point guards, and Bolick is volunteering but Reyes decided to tap Kib, gago talaga classic move by Reyes.

Short time of integration, but Juan GDL is not part of the group Tab had last qualifiers, yet he gets a special treatment of integration on the system but a guy like Bolick is not when in fact bata din naman yan before ni MVP sa San Beda, LOL

I am doubting actually.

Looks like Coach Chot is/will already use this 2022 windows and tournaments to try out who will fit his system next year in 2023 World Cup.

As I expected, it is inevitable that there will be pba players come 2023. And now, it is even the opposite.

It is actually pba players + a few cadets. Guessing same will happen in 2023.

"Looks like Coach Chot is/will already use this 2022 windows and tournaments to try out who will fit his system next year in 2023 World Cup." Doesn't mean that he can't use the amateur players to see which ones fit. They can see which ones fit, and at the same time, try to develop them.

No question naman, we'll need PBA players. Pero we'll have to choose which ones really fit the long-term goals for Gilas.

Trust me, I'm kinda paranoid about this as well.

Robert could be right. There’s PBA fingerprints all over this. PBA muscling it’s way into the scene once again. This is why people doesn’t like the idea of tabbing PBA players ever again for international competitions.

I think this is not Chot's decision.. I know Chot likes him.. In fact, he include Bolick in previous 23 for 23 program before.. I guess it was PBA who tell Chot that don't pick Bolick due to latter declined of renewing his contract at PBA/NP... I know this is speculation but if you connect the dots, you will see it why... Even Slaughter and Adams didn't pick by Chot... PBA did this before on Parks, PBA wants more involvement at Gilas for their exposure.. Kailangan mostly PBA players ang bida... Yan ang liga natin.. Chot is also a victim here... Sino bang coach na aayaw kay Bolick? Even Tab will pick him if available..... Gumaganti lang PBA because those players suddenly leaving the league for better opportunities....

Don't get me wrong, Kib is actually decent, naartehan lang ako kay Reyes na I would love to have bolick blah blah blah, masyado talaga madrama magrason, but yes I might have to agree with Robert, ginawa na ng PBA to before with Parks and Kiefer when both 2 are trying out in the US in their NBA G league stints. They said before only PBA players for Gilas that was way back 2017, and I guess with Tab out na di nila mabraso, ganon na naman ulit, LOLS.

Diba!!! PBA wanted to be relevant again by using Gilas as their propaganda... PBA have many issues na talagang patong patong na and if you tell the fans, they telling negative perspective about the league... Only Gilas is their only card atleast para bumango kahit paano tingin sa kanila ng tao... Nakakahiya nga talaga na on 2023, No PBA player/s will represent the biggest basketball event that we will host.... Sampal sa kanila yan that best players will play for Gilas are not from their league...

that card could backfire if this PBA backed Gilas would be humiliated the coming window, which is very likely esp. that we are facing a pissed off Korean team, and the said country has dominated our PBA Gilas/Nteams except for the 2013 FIBA asia

If you ask me another reason they're bringing in Juan and co is to dissuade them from playing abroad. What are the chances they just stay here and join the next draft?

If Ballungay plays in Japan the assumption is he is already eligible (Japan rules for Asian import ).
So pathway is establish enough years residency and domestic play get exempted then secure the players Gilas availability for a decade by keeping him away from the evil empire LOL

PBA really is a big nasty Grouch, they're even saying that the Pinoy players that went to the Bleague didn't learn anything from a lower tier league. On contrary some of the players got exposed, playing against a team with 3 World Imports every game is harder than it looks,if Kobe had gone the PBA route he would just dominate and skills will stagnate,in the Bleague it humbled him and I'm pretty sure he will work harder to improve his shortcomings.

They already have an excuse,Tab's system didn't work this time and Gilas need to go back to the proven small ball Pinoy style system.
