Philippines Cadet/Developmental Team

JUST IN: The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has announced that Josh Reyes has stepped down from the Gilas Youth head coaching position.

A new coach will be named “in the coming weeks,” the basketball body said in a statement. | via Denison Dalupang, Inquirer Sports

It's most likely going to be a young coach (or one with young experience). I'd rather they go with a European coach. Developing the bbiq/fundamental skills of our prospects while they are still young is beneficial in the long run. We'll never be the most athletic so we have to compensate in other ways.

That imaginary young european coach can also make extra money by opening a basketball training academy in the country. It's about time we get a local taste of the european way of training. We keep mimicking the American style of development which is for kids that play multiple sports and are athletic to begin with.

Imagine a European Milo Best coinciding with the SBP/Pasarelle youth environment.

Ava Fajardo, Sophia Canindo, Ariel De La O and Joaquin Ludovice will participate in the Basketball Without Borders Asia-Pacofic in Perth Australia

Ludovice is fine, but there are others worthy to be along side him. I bet we can name 3 more young male hoopers who can ball, in his age group. No sponsors to shoulder the trip to Australia???

I get the poaching accusations but lets be honest here, can FEU outbid guys that UP and La Salle wants?

As for being the BG coach, i like it, hes on Tim's coaching staff already, makes it easier to communicate as to what kids he should develop.

I think any BG coach should do it fulltime. At least only be an assistant in other teams. After all,you are dealing with 2 teams and you have to recruit especially kids from abroad.

Finally, looks like SBP now listens to people who really knows basketball and program continuity . No secret that Sean is one of Tim's favorite. and it evidently, SBP listens to what TC has to say-- re: inputs and recos.

And although Sean is fairly inexperienced coaching here, he has been coaching and heading a youth club team in the US. Genuine grass roots guy.

He'll also have an advantage when it comes to recruiting filams.

It is not just money how poaching they avoid.. How about playing time? Chambers can tell some kids "I will give you leeway to be best player in the league".. There are many ways of poaching.. especially they want to impress their way either PBA scouts or international scouts.. they can use FEU as "one and done stint" to start their journey as future professional players...

True... There are many available coaches there, who is not affiliated with other schools or pro teams...
