Philippines Cadet/Developmental Team

let see what will happen to Dayunyur once Grandpa Al P retired(?) at SBP this year(?)

as we all know the new ED appointed recently the Black Magic to handle the grassroot program

they've been to AUS and Europe to pickup some valuable notes and observe how they implement their own GRP

they've setup a camp @ LV recently in collaboration with different well known Filipino Sports entities for talent identification and

they are planning to do it on a yearly basis

locally, they've doing the same thing

my gut feeling "DDO Jr. will be replace".

I think Joke will be replaced as head coach but the SBP might still keep him around like an assistant coach for him to be able to save face. In the SMC camp alone Al Chua has a pool of seasoned and champion coaches that could take over like Juno Sauler, Siot Tanquingcen, Boyzie Zamar and Leo Austria to name a few.

i actually think Josh Reyes is coaching pro-bono. or at least, allowance lang ang sweldo. That's why SBP is not letting him go.

So anyone can be the coach so long as they aren't getting paid? A lot of posters here would happily apply for the job and probably get the same results.

JOke is probably just building up his resume before getting another job.

All of those you mentioned doesn't have international experience in coaching.. they might fare worse than Joke

it really has funding problem for youth teams.. not the same as seniors..

Problem with SBP they put all the resources to Mens seniors team but forget others..

if SBP treat the youth and the womens the same way as seniors team, much better and we’ll get ideal preparation for womens and for Youth teams.

True.. our womens and youth team can perform better than they are today... That's why I have doubts SMC handling SBP.. from the past and until now, they don't care about youth program and women basketball program... If I were sbp, I will let SM group to sponsor the womens basketball program, since Coach Pat came from NU, most of the players today also majority from NU, also his coaching staff are also part of NU program...

Sir r1ck,
cc: Sir weirdguy; Sir Giannis

I had no issues about those coaches you've mentioned if ever they will be assign to be part of the coaching staff for our next cycle RP youth team(s) for boys.

and I totally agree that those coaches had little to none coaching experience at a FIBA level

it's really a different animal out there so SBP should also re-consider that the next youth coach must had the experience and IQ for that level

we were totally abuse length-wise, talent-wise, experience-wise, tactical-wise on all directions so we ended up "hapless squad" out there

I pity to those kids who may not be elevated to the Senior level who are all victims of the Grandpas's culture.

if coaching youth teams nowadays are all for additional pages on their respective resume and not really to win a mint

oh dear

but let's stick to the previous statement and actions conducted by the new ED about grassroot development

indeed negativity surrounds our youth program nowadays but we must hold to that small piece of positivity of Mam Erika Dy

I hope she didn't succumb to much to the old school culture of those Grandpas and allow that small piece of positivity to grows and expand

we badly need fresh air.

We need to integrate the youth program with the seniors. Same system on offense (at least the ball and player movement part) and defense so that integration to the seniors would be easier. The juniors should be a pathway.

We also need to scout for players who have potential to make the seniors. SBP will need serious investment for that. It's not just SBP, though. After reading a post from Metta in the U18 thread, I think I'm also getting a notion that the local schools and teams should do their part in developing players who can play for the seniors. Should be a team effort.

In 2022, we had Bahay, Caelum, Konov, Bayla, Demisana, Gagate, and Pablo as players who had upside to play with the seniors. Mason has been promoted already.

From 2023-24, sir TheRodster21 said that only Gemao was impressive to him among the U18 guys. The U16-U17 group, I feel that only Alas, and maybe Morales and Daja, have a shot at the seniors.

We really need improvements in player development. Starts with SBP and the bigger schools.

LOL those guys are seasoned coaches and most that I have mentioned have won championships. Tell me what does your boylet Joke have over those that I mentioned besides the oh so valuable "fiba experience" that he has just because his dad used his influence to get him that head coaching job lol.

Tab Baldwin's future in Ateneo is getting blurry, and our youth team's next tournament is still next year which might be Tab's year of leaving Ateneo. Seems a good timing. Also a good chance to create a good relationship with SMC.

No poaching will happen as he can be full-time BG coach anyway.

Keep in mind that the job is basically for free. High risk, low reward. Uphill battle of unpredictable talent pool, virtually no support/resources and to top that very opinionated critics.

It's like expecting exemplary government workers...we get what we pay for.

Fix the funding and support. If not, it will be more mediocrity or get taken over by those with vested interests.

They tried to get Alapag but tenorio was the backup.

did not want to confirm it was LA but jimmy was the pipe dream

the only thing that I don't want to revive is the "Pirates of the Caribbean" storyline of coach Franz and coach Eric some decades ago.

truly, it left a bitter taste in the mouth that led to some schools having a bad impressions towards national interest by not lending(?) and created(?) some lame excuses

why their player(s) are not given the greenlight even just for mere practice session during those time

I dunno what's the real score at that time but as a fan I am very pissed really.

"The so-called unconditional love for the country that this UAAP and NCAA schools teaches/preaches to it's enrollees are only during flag ceremonies, school lecturing, examination, graded recitation,

commemoration days, thesis, foundation days among others but not on actual implementation".

that's my harsh comments to those mainstreams schools

I do hope I am wrong on this but I think it's still the culture nowadays but they do it in a more subtle and under the radar thing

because socmed nowadays are much like "my private life is an open book" for public consumption.

and those mainstreams schools doesn't want to be tag as "mga mararamot at masasama ang ugali" in the eyes of the internet world

that will be a disaster to the image of this religious run teaching institutions.

SBP with it's new ED should really do something about it to avoid such possibility.

because as a basketball fan we cannot stand watching our beloved kids being mauled to the ground by the other kids of the other nation "sa first qtr palang"

if we will defeated eventually it should be a photo finish, we are sick and tired of "tambakan alley".

Who? Josh? I don't care about him by the way and I'm ok he was axed.. but Chambers, Del Rosario or Racela are not yet good youth coaches too.. they can't even led their UAAP/NCAA teams to atleast finals.. you have to consider to "poaching" issue that other schools hesitant to borrow their players.. The only persons who are fit to coach youth team w/o any connections are Gavina, Lastimosa, Nenad or Pumaren.. Charles Tiu is coaching St. Benidle, Coach Monteverde coaching UP and Tab is coaching Ateneo... They have connections to either UAAP or NCAA.. so that is not good idea too.. we have to play the political side of basketball here...
