Philippines Cadet/Developmental Team

Guys, do you think Troy Rosario and Mark Belo can provide the same contributions of Ping and RDO in the future Gilas?

Might contribute even more than Ping when it's their time. These 2 guys have good range already (as far out as the 3), something that Ping never had. Would be of great help to spread out the floor which is a premium in the international game.

Troy yes , he can play sf/pf got height and range. Can be an under study for an RDO/Ping. For Mark a high leaper but he needs to be consistent on his outside shooting to be considered for sg/sf position , lacks height for the pf

Belo has the more polished offensive game while Rosario to me has more potential on the defensive side.

I think Belo will have an easier time adjusting to the PBA but in the international game it will still depend on how he develops in the PBA. We don't want to see him become another Arwind Santos who can't play the sf position. I hope they will use him as a SF because he doesn't seem to be that tall. And Belo reminds me of Omolon, same built(heft and height) but with a better perimeter game.

I think Rosario will need a little bit more time before we can see what he can do. The defensive instincts are there but he still looks raw. Even on offense, he doesn't have a reliable move. His post moves needs to develop and his jump shot is inconsistent. He has good shooting form for a big man.

Mark Belo is 6'3, Troy is said to be 6'7 (?) -- Mark's height at PF doesn't sound encouraging, Troy, should be consistent game after game...

For the moment, they are supplanted by the duo Sanggalang (6'7) and Almazan (6'8) who are developing very nicely-- Chot should consider them for
next year...

I'm sorry but this level of play is TOO LOW compared as to how Yonsei University (Korea) plays. Heck, our PBA teams are playing these korean colleges which shows how our cadets (college players) are way TOO DELAYED in its development.

Results against a Korean team in Korean home soil mean much at all for the PBA teams. :p If you lose, the reasons are obvious. If you win, then you have a chance against San Mig's "advantage" in the playoffs.

If you are are speaking of a system and not the skill, I may agree a little... having said that, our collegiate teams can easily adjust and hold their own against this/these university/ies... skill level is high, exposure is lacking though

I agree. I think these two will be better in the next couple of years. Rosario and Belo will need a lot of experience before we consider them for the NT.

It's interesting that we have a number of big men now, JA, GS, JF, Ian, Almazan, AVO, Belo, and Rosario but our NT coach loves small players and I don't think that he's the one who can take advantage of these players.

and avo is said to playing with hapee in the dleague along with newsome and bobby ray parks..they already have gabo so its like a cadet team already..im not sure with eligibility of newsome tho..

Belo plays the SF position for FEU especially when he is with Cruz and Hargrove. Rosario can both play SF and PF positions, he has the post moves and mid range jumper, plus can shoot threes. I can't remember an amateur/collegiate player who played like him.

Not eligible

Anyone old enough to have seen RDO in college? (Ok, i am old enough but did not see him in college :D)

What type of player was he then? i presume he played lot of PF/C at that time (playing for a Division IV school :D) and if so did the conversion to a full PF start in college or was it in the pros already? Thanks!

(Not asking about Ping as we all know he's a late bloomer; his skill set is not special too but his motor was just consistent in improving his game in the pros)

Dylan Ababou. and to a lesser extent, other pido forwards since they are all allowed to shoot 3's if they can. Allera, camus etc. I guess it's a combination of player skill and whether the coach will allow it or not

posting this would tantamount to admiting I'm dat old already, hehehe! I got to see RDO's game in college just once and that was his school St. Francis' game vs. a college team from Taiwan way back 2001 or 2002 (not sure). Back then, RDO was already showing his ability to make outside shots, even 3pt. shots, this aside frm his good inside game. Prior to his entry in d PBA, experts and scouts described him as a big man who can play inside and outside. I was surprised dat Rich Alvarez was picked way ahead of RDO. Alvarez even was d No. 1 pick who turned out to be a big big bust

In that game I saw (St. Francis vs. a Taiwanese college team), RDO played 4 as elder brother Yancy played center.

Belo, to some extent reminds me of a Mac Baracael during the latter's stint w/ Gilas-1. Though I think Belo has better handles & is more comfortable playing the 3 spot than Baracael. Baracael I think played the 4 for most part of his college basketball career & was compelled to play some 3 with Gilas-1. If my memory serves me right, Baracael had an outstanding stint w/ Gilas-1, specially in year 2010. I even heard a foreign team w/c Gilas-1 played against in the 2010 Dubai International Tournament was interested w/ Baracael's services. I like Baracael's toughness & "angas" back then. But since then, it seems Baracael's game have dipped significantly.

Sanggalang is "only" 6'5 while Raymond is 6'7 though I'm not sure he'll be an upgrade to Japhet. Both need to bulk up though if they want to play PF.

Ah yes forgot that the brothers were teammates in college. Guess we can say that he was already trained as stretch four very early.
