Philippines Cadet/Developmental Team

Ranidel continues to amaze me, early on his career i was never a fan or Ranidel I felt he was too slow. But how he developed his skill set (the outside shot) and how he creates to get his shot off inside is nothing short of incredible. I still don’t think he’s athletically gifted, but his athleticism is actually decent, I see him dunk with much more ease than some 6 5” home grown talent. When Patrimonio was in his prime, I would say if only he was 6’5 “ he would be a monster, but looking at Ranidel’s game it’s not a stretch to describe him as a 6’5” Patrimonio. Let me tell you if Ranidel had Patrimonio face, he probably would be the PBA’s biggest star today :)

Ian Sanggalang is the best power forward right now and maybe he is the better version of Dennis Espino. I know Russell Escoto is injured right now, but I think if he get a proper training he is better than Almazan because he is a good shooter and a shot blocker.

Just read an article about Thirdy Ravena on yahoo.. SBP should take a look at Bong Ravena. What he created of his children is a product of his training approach. Thirdy certifies his father's ability to teach/train kids. Maybe he should start a basketball school for guards. Add in there also the Tengs for forwards. We need a new approach in training our kids.

Nah.. not in the near future..
he better to learn first how to know if your team is on penalty or not.. :D

next Sharma perhaps
I did not watch the replay of the game.. let me guess he comitt a foul that force a won game into overtime ?

yep.. DLSU is up by 1 with 5 secs remaining and he intentionally fouled Sumang not knowing they are already above the limit..
Luckily Sumang missed 1 of the 2 hehe

oh well.. I hope he improves though.. the way AVO is improving lately.. :)

I haven't seen much of Sanggalang's game, but from the way I saw a few of his games, he seems to have the same skills set as that of Kerby Raymundo.

Oh come on he almost cost the game for La Salle lol.. Don't worry he is one of the better big men we have..

Norbert is the next Jay-r Reyes.

Someone who is full of potential because of size and rawness of game, but will never put it together

Van Opstal has been below average this second round.
He reminds me of a more athletic Yancy, but with no range from the outside.

A fair comparison but Ranidel's career and skill set really does not compare because Alvin was the go-to-guy for years, and he did it consistently. Ranidel is good and all but you really can't build around him if you start from scratch.

If I was a team owner I wouldnt mind building around Ranidel. He is a complete player, if he was the star player of a team you can see him averaging around 18 points and about 7-8 rebounds per game. Plus giving you solid defense, solid picks and a high basketball IQ. Its just that he is in a super loaded TNT team that is full of capable players.

I remember watching a FTW episode, in where Kramer said that his Idol in the PBA is Ranidel because when they were both together in Air 21, he would lead by example and was the hardest worker in the floor.

Hope they can develop Newsome into a 3. He is still raw in terms of basketball skills, he is getting away via his hops in the UAAP. Wont work in the international scene and PBA

Who was more effective in international tourneys, RDO or Alvin Patrimonio?

Comparing Cap to RDO is like comparing apples and oranges. You really cant tell who was better. It was a different generation and plus the fact that RDO had the benefit of having a naturalized center in Douthit. That spells the difference there, we never saw Cap alongside a legit center in international tourneys. As for game, RDO has better range and more consistent in the perimeter game. But comparing those two isnt needed anyway. What for?

For me RDO over my childhood idol patrimonio.

And its because RDO can carry-over his PBA game to the international level, while Alvin, sabihin na nating medyo nahihiripan sya matching-up with the taller 4's of the opponent. Right? I think Alvin did well for team Pinas in the 1994 Asiad, but in the 1998 Asiad, it seemed he struggled against tall teams like Kazakhstan.

One thing about RDO in international games is that he plays his role well. Its not that he will give you 15+ points in a consistent basis, its just that he can play smart & composed, he can play defense, is tough on both ends & can shoot those zone-breaker 3's.

with alvin, you only want him for the national team becoz of his scoring. You don't expect Alvin to play good defense & do the dirty work.
