Philippines Cadet/Developmental Team

I revisited my lineups here, just to have a refresher, and revise or add to them, extend them to perimeter lineups as well.

Here are some additions or revisions:

For lineups 2-4, the 5-man, instead of being required to be either mobile, big (6'9" above), versatile, two of three, or all of the above, just be able to play 4 would be enough, like Kemark Cariño or Geo Chiu.

New addition:

1. 3-guard lineup
-Commonly-used lineup in the PBA these days.
-In FIBA context, third guard must be 6'4"+ so as not to sacrifice defensive versatility.

theoretically, no problem with what you are thinking, but that will all boil down to coaching system and what types of players are available. so if we are talking about the future (post CCR) sky's the limit for what can happen

Yeah, I'm honestly just formulating my basketball theory at this point, on what kind of lineups fit us best, and what kind of players we should develop for those lineups. And yes, I'm talking about the future.

I do hope the sky's the limit for what will happen after Chot.

That is where the game is trending towards. Average height probably in the NBA is 6'6"-6'7" so teams now are coming up with lineups where all players are in that range...teams are now being constructed where almost all players are interchangeable/switch everything on D style. There is more premium on speed, shooting and versatility than strength. This is also evident in the US youth level, so eventually it will be more common. (Though it also won't hurt to develop unicorns like Embiid). But the key is, even though Embiid is huge, he is quick and has shooting.

Rule changes and analytics have made this system effective. And strategy and excellent coaching is also vital in this type of system.

And if this is what the future brings, we should prepare our youth prospects accordingly.

Yep, been kinda advocating for this to no end. Hopefully that system becomes the general rule, like what the Heat are doing. Mobility and versatility muna.

Yes, this trend has been formulating for several years now, especially ever since the Golden State Warriors proved its viability when they won their titles. I think basketball officials in the Philippines has not entirely been blind to this because we do see several youth players who are tall and skilled. Just go a decade back and it will be very rare to see the combination of size and skill that some of our current youth prospects possess. We just need to ramp it up a bit more and do a better job of identifying prospects much earlier so we can train them CORRECTLY. It's really not that difficult to predict if a kid has a good chance of becoming extraordinarily tall even at a very young age.

Mavs vs Warriors center less basketball, game has really changed, just stunning

I think it's time that our youth teams adopted this approach, and focus more on developing taller players at the wing (6'4"+) and four (6'7"+) positions.

Unless we have centers like Kai or AJ.

The truth is Kai and AJ are even both more Mobile and Perimeter oriented than our 6'5-6'7 Young Bigs. Lol

Kai and AJ playing overseas really helped though.

In 2023, We can have Kai AJ, Balti, Tamayo, Japeth or Troy. All Bigs capable of Facing Up and Shooting

Hopefully Demisana, Gagate, and Salvoro become reliable fours who can play like Balti or Carl, and that we have more wings the size of Oftana, Navarro, and Lebron. This U16 and U18 team might give us hope.

Need to focus more on developing and strengthening our wings and fours.

With coach chot, he will still used with the vets over the young bloods. Sad but true and it’s always the cycle.
Im just looking forward for the u16 and u18 fiba tournaments. And also, kai’s future after nba draft. Hehehe.

Hopefully the performances of our kids in the U16 and U18 (and maybe U17 and U19 World Cups) will be enough for some of them to earn invites to overseas development programs (US high schools, US NCAA colleges, European youth teams or B-teams, NBL1, or NBA Academy).

Kasi, we look like we're lagging behind Japan and SoKor in terms of development. Japan has an NBA rotation player in Rui Hachimura, and SoKor has a prospect that's said to be more translatable to the NBA than Kai in Lee Hyun-jung, and another in Yeo Jun-Seok. I hope we can close the gap.

Chot has no choice but to use the relatively younger guys for FIBA Asia. PBA basically forcing his hand.

is it a similar case with June 30 3rd window game ? is the schedule also in conflict with the PBA conference ?

Yeah. It has been announced already.

Basically Bleague, College, Some draftees (Arana, Javi, Mamu, Shaun), plus whoever in u18/17 that is good enough. Hopefully, Panopio is available.

Yeah.

I see it as a blessing in disguised that PBA players won't be available for Gilas by that time. I want the likes of Thirdy, D. Ramos, Kouame, Navarro, RJ Abarrientos, Belangel, Dave Ildefonso, Lopez, Baltazar, Tamayo & maybe Parks & Panopio.
