How about putting all PBA's sophomores and rookies on SBP protected list of national pool members. They must be readily available to national duty without refusal.

Cadets

NCAA: Amer, Nimes, Racal, Dela Cruz, Almazan
UAAP: Sumang, Parks, Ferrer, Mariano, AVO

A PBA D-League flavored national team aint bad also.

I think they need to add a pingris type of player. Rodney Brondial I think will fit the bill. A good rebounder and blocker.

I envy the South Korean basketball federation on how they go about their feeder program, and youth development. In the last FIBA Asia tournament, they had a mix of pros and college players, and paraded a couple of young centers, one a 6'9 19 y.o. and another, slightly older center of the same height. Their top gunner was just a college player, albeit an "old college player" at 24.

It goes to show us, their system and style of basketball from the youth programs up to the pros are so consistent, it's almost seamless when the players transition from a level to another level.

Does that suggest that schools & corporations in South Korea which are involved in basketball aren't as greedy & unpatriotic as what we have here in the Philippines.

Let's say South Korea's grassroots program as well as from the way players transition from one level to another is way way better than what we have here in the Phi., but I think SBP can copy such program anytime. Question is, how do we get the cooperation of the stakeholders (schools, PBA D-league & even the PBA) to make such program possible.?

In the recent FIBA-Asia Championship for instance, Korea paraded two 19-year old players & two 22-year old players. Most likely those young players are still in college or if not, they're still in the developmental league (like our PBA D-league). Yet they were allowed by their schools &/or developmental league teams to join the national team. Something which most likely will not happen in Phi. basketball. If ever, had Chot named Kiefer Ravena or Rayray Parks to Gilas-2, would Ateneo & NU allow them to play for the Philippine team knowing that the training & the actual competition would conflict the UAAP season?

they can adjust their calendar...they already did it for fiba asia. the ncaa won't really lose anyone since almazan is already graduating and other than him they don't have any other player to lend so far.

Could it be that they did that because we were the host of such a prestigious tournament? Would they do that again to give way to our participation in the Asian Games- a tournament not as prestigious as the FIBA-Asia Championship (as far as basketball is concerned) and we are not the host?

In other countries, they do not stop just because basketball is happening.

SEA Games will be on December so as soon the UAAP and NCAA season finishes SBP must form a team soonest as possible.
They can tap the Fil-Ams playing in the ASEAN Basketball League plus new batch of cadet players.

They can even tap Fil-Am Avery Scharer who just signed up with Malaysia Dragons. . .

6"3 point guard?

Read his story, hope he can make it to the PBA.

Btw, to those watching ABL, how is Justin Melton and the tall guy? Holstien?

How is Vosotros better than him? Im a lassalian and have seen vosotros play for 4 years already. He has an inconsistent stroke from 3 and has no playmaking, slashing skill whatsoever. Sumang I'd agree is better than him, while Ill be honest i havent watch alolino that seriously, but in the case of sumang. You already have Romeo,Parks and Ravena. You need a distributor not another scorer to the team. This is a TEAM not an All-star team. Huge difference.

well, vosotros is a better offensive player at this point but i agree that he's more of a 2...a willie miller type. Amer is a steady point guard but he's not as good as people thought he would be or he was projected to be. remember in HS he was an MVP. not only can he setup his team, he can score a lot too...that's why he was often compared to kiefer. But now we can surely agree that napagiwanan na sya ni ravena. remember our national team has always had point guards who not only can be floor generals but can score too.

pretty sure the SEA games and asian games would allow these guys being brought up...FIBA is a different monster though.

Are they wiling to invest on players that may not be eligible for FIBA though?

My point exactly. Is this a PBA prospect or a FIBA prospect?

Their being Fiipinos have some use for us basketball wise but because of Hagop, we'll forever ask the all-important question :)

Are you talking about Kim Min Goo or Kim Min Sung? Becaues Mingoo is just 22.

sadly, i think it's come to a point that amer is overrated. he's at par with gelo alolino now only that he has a better outside shot. sumang and vosotros are better than him.

Oh come on now. Out of all our players in DLSU, the ones I hate the most are Jeron "Brick Machine" Teng and Almond "Machine Gun" Vosotros. If there was a contest to see who could shoot more bricks between him and Jeron, we'd be able to build a house in less than a day. HATE his game. Absolitely HATE it. I don't hate the guy but he's an undersized SG that shoots WAY too much. Sabi ko nga sa friend ko e, when DLSU was losing in the 1st round, nag aagawang buko sila Almond and Jeron. Those guys can't play team ball. All they do is shoot and play 1 on 1 (when they're really not that good anyway).

Anyway, thank God for Jason Perkins. He's been DLSU's most consistent player (he's gotten better throughout the tourney) and IMO, their best player. Jeron has the name and the claim to fame, but Perk is the one that actually produces and helps DLSU play good TEAM basketball. Too bad he's an undersized 6'2 PF. He's a poor man's Joe DeVance.
