Philippines Cadet/Developmental Team

Hopefully not true, Wright can play for Gilas but doesnt want to sign a long term contract, but before playing for gilas you need long term commitment..

A Lassiter 2.0? A new mercenary? :p

I remember he had a terrible u18 exp, after refusing to play college here.He was left alone at 16 yes old he had to leave the country by his lonesome..

That's why you never Dee the guy wearing yellow green on near future..

would had been great to see Parks,Ravena and Wright to play for PHL.Those guys are probably the best players of their age group. With this said,we really need the PBA players big men to compete against big Asian teams plus a naturalized big of course.

Well see i really think we need to train our bigs a diff way if we want to be successful, yeah we are strong and physical but were slow...

Thats why i am keen to build are bigs more than our guards..

bigs no way around it, we must get it in the PBA plus a naturalized big.Almasan,Aguilar,Fajardo etc. we really lack bigs not unless we develop guys like Edu, Pangalanan etc. but that is far from reality, We cannot produce a bunch of big guys like China, India or Iran. Not unless we wake up one day and we have five hundred 13 year old boys who stands 6'9 and above.

You knew why troy was successful big than japeth and junmar combuned last oqt, be cause he was bred the righg way by coach e, sadly even almazan will now be inbred as he will build bad habits and still skills wise junmar jf and greg are still your best bet buyt I would take a 6'7 guy who plays quick and can manufacture inside than a american trained center..Although i am a fan of big who can be very good in pick and roll.. ponz, escoto and javier are strong and can hit threes hope they maximize all the opportunity they will get..

True our young guys need exposure the problem is, the collegiate league becomes a conflict and after that most of them applies for the PBA draft. In this case, the current bigs are lacking quality (that's why we end up losing to India). Given that the PBA bigs have now absorbed some bad habits from the PBA, I think those guys would have still done a better job than the current ones, However, I do not think this is the proper tournament for PBA pros, hence, we are stuck with this lineup.

Honestly although sbp think it was only compulsory to send a team in this tournament, i completely agree on this setup its just sad some did not heed the call due to.contract issues who can be blamed to the both parties.. We didnt get the best wing or guards available but certainly the best bigs..

I hope and pray that time will come when even at a college level , our players will participate in Fiba competition even at early age. It sucks that when they are already old at around 23 to 25 that is where they will participate in international competition. They always prioritize pointless college leagues.

Example if we have a very good big man in college level and we really need him due to his talent and potential, but his schedule conflicts with UAAP or NCAA, there selfish schools will hold them back. We have to change this thinking.

I hope and pray, that anytime there is a call up from the national team especially to college teams, there will be no complaints and players will be free to make there decisions if they want to play for the national team. I think this is the reason why our players regress after a few years due to they are stuck in local college basketball scene.

I really like the material we have realistically available for Gilas 5 ( 2017-2019 home and away format)

PG: Jolion ( bus driver) , Keifer, Romeo
SG: Wright , Parks
SF : Dwight Ramos, Ganuelas
PF: Rosario , AJ Edu
Center : Any of the 4 for the Naturalized spot ( Christian , Mo, Laput, Blatche- they can take turns depending on availability for each home and away series ) and Osptal

To me if that team, can gel and play we will be competitive and will qualify for the world cup ( 7 slots)

Perhaps we can try out also Chris Blake 6-7 and Richard Smith ,6-7. Both are Fiba eligible as both are born in the Philippines( Smith born in Subic). Bith are not that young though, Blake is born in 1990 coukd be around 26 years old while Smith is 27 years old. Basically same age group as Christian Hermoso.

I dont know how good is Richard Smith though. He played for ABL in 2014, was in fact part of the pool for 2015 SeA Games or 2016 Stankovic pool( not sure if its 2015 or 2016 Cadets, but same him in one Interaksyon article) ,perhaps as a practice player but did not the team .

Saw the article from Philstar by the Dean: March 2015. He was supposedly invited for SEABA pool in 2015 but could not leave the US becasue of injury. Perhaps thats in 2016 Stankovic Cup wherein he was a practice player . He was suppose to join the 2015 PBA draft but dont knownif it push through or was he undrafted.

With that lineup, can kick ass against any Asian teams. Hiw about against NZ though.
