Philippines Cadet/Developmental Team

Don't laugh, but i think this guy could be our next naturalized player (no need to go through congress) when Blatche retires from Gilas , maybe as soon as 2019
http://www.slamonlineph.com/fil-am-kamaka-hepa-is-tearing-up-alaskas-hs-basketball-scene/

I was searching on net looking for some information about him which side of his parents is of Filipino descent(but I guess must be his mom since Hepa is a hawaiian last name) and stumbled on an info that he has an older brother that died. Wala lng just wanted to share that, and oh his sister is also really tall like 6'4? I wonder if she also play ball maybe she can play for Perlas.

Do you understand basketball recruitment at all? Andray Blatche one of the biggest mercenaries you can find, opted to play for the Phili. do u think it's because he loves the Phil,, wants to get a passport etc :).. Never suggested Hepa was ever approached by the SBP, but BTW a lot of people around pinoy basketball have reached out for him to get a passport before 16, but he's not keen (not attractive enough) not yet at least , now go figure if Hepa becomes a 5 star NCAA star. but isn't good enough for team USA. get drafted low in the NBA, you don't think he would be keen to play in the World cup and Olympics for Gilas like Blatche did, if $ 100,000 was tangled in front of him. for a month's play? :)

Oh I understand basketball recruitment...but let me turn your words back at you..how sure are you that he won't be part of team USA even just the junior team sice he seems to be making waves right now..or how sure are you he won't be drafted in the NBA? And again going back to commitment..even if we did cough up the $$$ how sure are we that he would even be interested since no where can I find an interview stating he acknowledges his filipino roots much less stating of even playing for Gilas, unlike say someone like Edu or Kirkness. Thing is you make it seem like its a sure thing that we will pursue him or that Hepa already gave it a thought when thats far from reality. But yeah whatever...get back to us on this in 2019. There are other more realistic options out there we should focus on.

who said i was sure of anything ? that's why it's called a prospect . We may have 100's of prospects as potential naturalized players and 95% of them may not lead to anything. But that doesn't mean we should't explore the possibility of tapping them.

Father if filipino hawaiian

Asssuming Hepa is good enough to make into the NBA (even on a short contract) or Euro league. And let's just say for argument sake he just 1/8 Filipino blood and parents were never Philippine citizens, to me with his skill set (6'10ish) multi skilled and his Filipino roots (however small) and his age (he can give us 12 plus years) and of course if he's willing to play for us. (kahit for Marcus Doulthit level salary) , to me he would be an excellent find and representative of the Philippines. You place him beside AJ Edu (local) and Paras and there is your world class front court right there

can't wait!:p esp. in 2019 with fajardo and greg as the seniors big men of the team

Analyzed, has anyone asked quentin millora-brown if playing for our flag is smethng they would consider?

Why the cadet team? He just won his first professional championship for his team. He's played professionally for the past few years in Asia and Europe. He needs to be in the senior Men's pool already.

I think because the call up for the next Gilas will be easier if Wright is part of the cadet team. Also, it will be easier for him to enter the PBA than wait for the age requirement before joining the PBA. well that's what I think,

Yes that's part of the reason, for a lack of better term I think the SBP is using loosely the term" cadet", what they're simply referring to are players not in the PBA or even wider not in the 17 man pool, or to even broader it even further the pool for the home and away format 2017-2019. The SBP is really preparing for a independent pool from players not constrained by the PBA calendar and mother team duties

I do subscribe to this idea also.

Confusing tournament names

Confusing tournament names

Which I think is the former stankovic cup that Sir Analyzed asked.

See how confusing names of tournaments have become.

I had brought up this topic before but no one bothered to react.

Not too many people can distinguish FIBA Asia Championship from FIBA Asia Cup or FIBA Asia Champions Cup.

Even die-hard basketball afficionados would easily get confused with the names of these tournaments. Perhaps even sports mediamen could easily get confused which is which.

The FIBA Asia Champions Cup for instance was then known as the Asian Basketball Confederation (ABC) Interclub Championship during the 80's & early 90's. Then it was changed to ABC Champions Cup, to FIBA Asia Champions Cup as ABC was changed to FIBA Asia. It would have been logical that the word "Interclub" was retained as such tournament features club teams or professional teams of Asian countries with imports.

The FIBA Asia Championship & FIBA Asia Cup (formerly known as FIBA Asia Stankovic Cup) on the other hand, feature the national teams of Asian countries.

So if for instance we name it FIBA Asia Interclub Championship, I think it would be much easier to distinguish it from FIBA Asia Championship and FIBA asia Cup. All because of the word "Interclub" attached to it. We know that it is a club tournament featuring professional teams in Asia. Simple as that.

sorry for the OT:)

What is the difference between FIBA Asia Championship from FIBA Asia Cup , aside from the former being a qualifying tournament for the Worlds or Olympics?

I think the FIBA Asia Cup (formerly FIBA Asia Stankovic Cup) used to be a qualifying tournament (one of the qualifying tournaments) for the FIBA Asia Championship and perhaps, if I'm not mistaken, said tournament used to determine the grouping or bracketing of the FIBA Asia Championship. I think the results or the placings of the 2010 FIBA Asia Cup determined the bracketing of the 2011 FIBA Asia Championship. However, the results or the placings of the 2012 FIBA Asia Cup became irrelevant as the system of bracketing in the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship was through a random draw.

The bracketing of last year's FIBA Asia Championship was also through a random draw. Thus, as we saw, Lebanon, Qatar, Kazakhstan & Taiwan fell on the same group traditionally labeled as "Group of Death".

From what I remember, the winner of the FIBA Asia Cup (formerly FIBA Asia Stankovic Cup) directly qualifies to the FIBA Asia Championship and the 2nd to 5th placed teams receives an additional slot for their respective sub-zones in the FIBA Asia Championship
