Philippines Cadet/Developmental Team

just finished watching the replay against thailand.

keifer needs to work on his defense.

troy rosario is a cut above his peers in this squad. I wonder how good he will be or was this game just a fluke. he played a man's game while the rest just played collegiate level ball. with him, junemar, slaughter, almazan, aguilar, AVO, our future national teams frontline looks solid.

Let's hope Rangel and Matt Aquino turn out just as good as he is. He definitely benefitted from playing against those athletic African bigs in practice. Comparing his development to those from the "Norman Black school for bigs" like Arao, Kramer, etc at the same stage of their careers puts him notches above them.

They are totally different players though. Rosario is 6'7" and athletic for his height. Kramer, Arao, Chua are all barely 6'5" (Doug is maybe just 6'4") and to top it off, all are not athletic. Al-Hussaini might've been as tall as Rosario (might even be taller by a bit) but the former is definitely several notches lower in the athleticism department as well. So if you are to consider long term potential, Rosario would definitely have the edge, and he's showing it to us right now. He's starting to scratch the surface of his potential. If he goes to the right PBA team, I see him as a mainstay of several national teams down the road.

I'm liking Troy's game to that of a "Scottie Pippen", before the NBA legend developed handles and the long bombs--just outstanding length and scrappy play. Hope the Bulldog, develops the same and become an efficient point forward if ever he moves to the next level, riding shotgun with the likes of Kobe, Parks, MGR...

Great company..as all of them bred their game here unlike Norwood who is a very good player but already bred to be a role player..

Torres is a lumbering stiff. That two year hiatus prior to his inclusion with the Archers really did some damage to his game. He's miles behind his former RP youth back up Ian Sanggalang. If he gets drafted, I hope he lands in a team where the bear can get out of its trap.

Next stop, the heirs to the knockdown shooters. The next Chans, Davids, and Fonaciers!

Ferrer needs to get to the gym for his 600-800 shooting drills a day if he wants it made.. seemed as if he hasn't been diligent for a shooter as of this writing.

Vosotros seem to have the stroke to be successful as a sniper but unfortunately, enigmatic though, for he is a point guard, there is an overlap there somewhere and physically a tad bit tiny to get to the next level.

I would have wanted to see what Pesumal would have brought to the table had he been chosen with this group and so have undergone the same circumstances these Sinag cadets have gone through... We shouldn't forget Garvo!

In exchange for that though he has excellent defensive skills and positioning. Something Kiefer lacks.

At the rate he plays, he needs to be at least, 6'11" to amount to something in the PBA ranks, otherwise, the Belgas, Ponferadas, and the Villanuevas will bring him grief on a platter much like what Justin Chua has been getting these days.

I love how coach Tab looks in this picture. After all the home cooking and bad calls against us, he's like

"At least do your job correctly one last time this game." ;)

We have a very professional coach hehe! Tab is veteran in the international arena. I just hope that the Gilas boys will accept his system with open arms. The cadets are having a hard time with his offensive and defensive sets.

As early as last year, when Tab was watching the UAAP , he saw Troy's potential , the unique skill set rarely found in the Philippines. It didn't really standout then, but it was suttle. basically the way he moved laterally on defense and covering pick and rolls, it's something you don't see in pinoy big men at least those 6'6 and above. I think the game was NU vs Ateneo, on several occasions Troy switched on the guards, the thing is they couldn't get by him. on one play i think it was a pick and pop where tolentino got the ball in the three, Troy's recovery to close out on Tolentino was imnpressive. It's reallly the combination of length, 6'7" mobility and good IQ that makes him unique. Oh his shooting form is also very sound. it's a natural forward none big man looking shot.

He traded it for excellent offensive awareness.. thats why I really think he fits in Nlex scheme of things..

Lets still send our youth team for the SEAG to get the gold? :) :) :)

Unless we get beaten by them to be proven otherwise, it will still be the suggestion. But on serious note I like how Cambodia plays, its like they are a dynasty team in 6 foot and under leagues. Hope ABL continues so that we see a very competitive sea games come 2019, I really see theSEA teams in the PBL, Liga Pilipinas level now where a hastily assembled PHilippine wouldn't cut it anymore ala Cebuana/MBA team that we send to sea back then.

Minor setback, we still would have battled for the gold (and win it, in close games) if we sent the U18 team :D

i admit that SEA games' teams are improving but still not in our level.

I thank the good Lord those geniuses are not SBP officials.

I don't mind our cadets losing that game or lsing to Indonesia later at least we upset Iran, China or anybody to get that Rio spot come September, I'll be solved:cool:

Gold medal match at 8 pm. Size will be a concern if Marcus is taken down again. We'll only have Troy and Norbert to contend against the wide Indonesian frontline [They don't score as well as the Thai frontline though, except 35 year-old Rony G]. Desmond Oh had to be stretchered off after crashing into an Indrawan (#12) pick... Indonesia could use the same strategy as Thailand did. And they have better guards to finish their fastbreaks. Sinag must put the game to bed early. Khobuntin must keep his cool.
