Philippines Cadet/Developmental Team

1. you can not play DDO on fastbreaks
2. depending on the looseball situation if the DDO initiator gets the ball then maybe. remember that in the DDO you need men at the corners.
3. what really is ingrained in pinoy style bball is the run and gun, touchdown passing, and back your defender down style in other words Old School. haha.

I say keep the fast-paced part of the DDO, just improve and COMMIT on defense. Kind of like Coach Spo's "positionless" coaching style in Miami.

DDO is not really that fast paced. ball stays too long with Blatche, Castro, Tenorio or Alapag. I think if the Cadets perfects Tab's system it would even be faster than the DDO. i don't know what he calls his system but you can see that it is based on quick passing of the ball, ball goes to the post but the post passes it back out to the wings then swings it to the other side, i saw some growing pains from the cadets this SEA games most of the time they are overpassing it. i don't think it is the same system he used at Jordan.

weward has a good explanation of Chot Reyes' Gilas 2 system in a video compilation he made.
He showed it to me when we met. It was very well explained but in a casual way. But there are no fancy over-the-video drawing of lines and arrows. There were even variations of the play and also why a particular play failed.
One example of a variation of play that he pointed out was that corner three set up with a high screen then ball handler will penetrate and will force to make the corner defender to help thus freeing up a teammate for a corner 3-point shot. Like the one we used against France to end the first half. We tried to set up that same play against Croatia to tie the game. Dario Saric defended that high screen well but Alapag wasnt really looking for a penetration. Instead norwood screened for Blatche thus making space for blatche and giving blatche a big mismatch because the one who committed/rotated to blatche was Kuroslav Simon. Blatche simply shot the uncontested 3-pointer and tied the game.

Also showed in that video is how a particular play failed. Like that one wherein we had a play set up starting with norwood and junmar at low post while pingris at high then diversionary screens and norwood will get the ball then driving from top to low while pingris will go low and 'hook'(screen for Jeff) Jeff Chan's defender . Jeff chan coming from south east side top beyond the arc going to the corner wide open. All this at the same time as norwood giving a pass to jeff chan moving to the corner for a catch and shoot 3. We have done that against Croatia, Greece and Argentina.

There was also a section in that video explaining why coach Katsikaris of Greece got mad at the Greek freak Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The video also pointed how our players reads situation and how they create opportunity by attacking the spaces/gaps. It is a good video. tho the quality is not HQ/HD/Hi-res because it is mostly from recorded livestream and weward struggled with proper technical terminologies(yes, may voice-over lolers) but it was well explained. Still waiting for him to upload it. I really wanted to feed it to the people who belittled our system just because it doesnt look something like European ball. And that they just really dont understand what our team was doing on the court.

Also mentioned there is why Pingris is 'special' and hard to replace(with video backing). It changed the way I see Pingris. It is not just hustle and heart but Pingris has a very good basketball sense.
Also how Norwood is being under-appreciated by many by only taking notice of his defensive capabilities. Norwood reads the game extremely well(with video proof).

It is a must watch.

The system used by Gilas 2 under Chot reyes is good. It forced defenders to move and always there is a 2-on-1 scenario on a particular spot/space on the court.
It exploited the textbook approach of defense by the other teams. They attacked gaps/spaces on the floor creating opportunities.
Etc.. But it lacked depth and required too much from our players. While other teams were merely executing memorized plays and only controlling the timing of their ball rotation most of the time, our players were reading the defense, breaking down their man, beating their man off the dribble and trying to manipulate the defense to open up a teammate.. That is why sometimes our half court game looked pale.
I thought Baldwin would polish it and add more but what I see with Sinag is not really something I expected.. :( Its ok but i will not be confident if it will be used on senior level.

Thailand game later at 6PM. Is this the semifinals already?

Russel low doesn't even shoot from the outside or play face up ball, he likes to to operate in the post and bang it up. Same with Delvin Goh. Both have the footwork to be effective scoring inside, they also can defend too. Best thing about the"twin towers" are that they are 22yo (Russel) and 20yo (Delvin) only so they will be the mainstay for years to come..

Low and Goh are both wide-bodied inside operators. Let's see how they will match up against our lanky but mobile stretch bigs

I hate the pessimist me, i have this bad feeling that the medal rounds would not be a walk in the park for our cadets. i don't know, i hope i'm wrong.

OT. Some notes on the Singapore vs Thailand game.
1. It was physical, no.12 got pissed off by Singaporean PG after a foul play.
2. i think Singapore is becoming like Taiwan, in terms of fishing for fouls, (best actors ampf :D)
3. Thailand players are more skilled compared to their Singaporean counterparts. It's just that they don't have big men who can contain Goh and Low in the post. Plus, having homecourt disadvantage, more free throws for their opponents.
4. no.15 of thailand is a poor man's version of Pingris hehe.
5. Oh with a lucky half court buzzer beating shot that might sealed the game for SG.
6. One cute Thai chick at the audience

Singapore has no chance of beating our gilas cadet team.

Im giving them 60% chance of beating our U18 team though only because they have been playing together for a long time already.

Sige lang po, even if you leave it unlisted. Though it would mean other teams have a scouting tool :p

^^
Well just a few things about the DDO and Tab, don't forget Josh Reyes and Nash Racela are the primary assistants working on Gilas, Uichico is also likely to follow. and then off course you have Alapag, Note the senior Gilas team will be made up the core of the Gilas world cup team not the Sinag team, so I really wouldn't be too concerned that we won't be using aspects of the DDO for the senior team. What they do in Sinag is really not an indicator of what they will use as it's really a diffirent set of players , with a diffirent time table to prepare

I heard that we will only have 1 month, 2 months tops training for the Gilas?

I still do hope we use DDO in some situations.

speaking of small ball, what do people make of the Warroors adjustment to go small in the NBA finals (center less) to work against Cavs big frontline of Mozcov, Thompson and Lebron? Something seems to be working

The small ball will work against slow bigs like cavs. The warriors are known for small ball tactics since don nelson days. Now the steph curry era warriors they have the personnel to do the small ball attack.

Yup, same youtube channel. I actually scoured the internet some time ago and found a lot of SEABA 2015 vids with singaporean commentary as well as Vietnam vs Sta Lucia. Dirty game along with Mason Plumlee looking bored and leaving in the 3rd qtr lol.

12 weeks? Seems nice. Not too much and not too little.

Maybe Korea and Lebanon?

Because they can shoot outside. This is why our version of small ball can only work if we can shoot outside.
