Philippines Cadet/Developmental Team

Isnt that a good thing?

These players will not be given any special treatment and they will be humbled when they get to play against these men.

That is how players in Europe are trained. As early as 15-16 they are already pros and play with Men. I remember Kobe saying that is why he likes the development in Europe over the US.

I know. I'm talking more about hazards like injuries. It's weighing the pros and cons. ACL tears, MCL, shoulder injuries, major strains and sprains, very possible achilles injury. This is the main consideration.

I'm impress with the development of AVO. He is turning into a good powerforward/center. But I want to see him more become a powerforward, the next Marc Pingris. He really is powering himself through the defense , and dunks all the time when he is at the paint, unlike Junmar who si so soft even if he is free at the paint, he will just lay the ball up thats why he is defended easily because he is soft in attacking the paint. AVO also has good footwork, better than Japeth at these stage. He just needs to improve his defense and box out and be more aggressive like Pingris. Along with Almazan, AVO for me will be our future powerforward. I hope they will be put these two as center because they will not flourish in center position. Let the naturalize players or Junmar and Greg be trained as centers.

Teng of DLSU is also impressive, he is a good slasher and defender but he needs to have a consistent perimeter game to have a chance in our national team.

If there is 1 player who would not adjust much if he is to play for an NBL team, that would be AVO.Parks too I think would do a good job.

Is AVO eligible? Also would DLSU lend him?

You can include Sanggalang as future power forward

Jeron is a player who will struggle mightily in international play. He has no outside shot whatsoever, his advantage in the UAAP is his strength, which would be neglected in FIBA ball and add to that he is only 6'2.

AVO can work, but he is still a major project. His offensive skills though improved are still raw, while for his size he is considered to be a mediocre rebounder add to that he gets lost on defensive switches, but the potential is there.

To think that some never even gave Arnold Van Opstal an outside chance of cracking a starting rotation when he was younger, I think the guy has made great strides for himself.

Van Opstal reminds me of a younger Japeth Aguilar -- lanky, athletic, and long-armed. While he does have a better body than Japeth had at his age, he still needs to develop his defensive timing and mid-range jumper. I hope Limpot works his magic on him.

@coachot: Yup,@josh_reyes recruited him“@Mixers_analyst: read ur tweet bout Newsome in gilas cadets. Does dat mean he's filam elig. to play in d pba?"

@Komiks12: @coachot @josh_reyes @Mixers_analyst also available for FIBA games?

@Mixers_analyst: @Komiks12 @coachot @josh_reyes yes that is why he is being considered to be part of the gilas cadet pool.

thanks.. he can really help our national program.. though a bit small, he is SO athletic and quick.. and he perfectly fits the system of chot..

i see him as a more refined calvin abueva.. i still see abueva as reckless at times..

Abueva without the Angas. In a good way. Newsome has shown the tendency to hit the big shot, but has to develop his one-on-one defense (as shown by Jeron Teng and Bobby Ray Parks). As it is, either he's tentative or too aggressive. One more year in the UAAP should do the trick.

And he should focus on his wingman skills. Even in the UAAP, he's undersize as a PF.

Newsome usually starts at SF, Buenafe at PF. He does have wingman skills, having played SG in the US.

I was surprised that he is listed as a PF in UAAP. Definitely, he is better in slashing to the basket than pounding it on the post.
