Hope we can survive the next 6 years.

As a history graduate and a Catholic, I can only hope for the best.

I hope BBM doesn't find a way to change the constitution. Our only saving grace is he's limited by a single-term presidency.

My worry is that we might be too beholden to China under his term. The US might not trust him.

Luckily he didnt inherit the brains of his dad. though this could mean that those around him will just pull the strings. I'm going to put my trust now in our democratic institutions, i think that's the best thing to do now.

Side note, wow 3 straight elections with the same outcome for the LP, i guess their campaign cry since 2016 only worked for a niche market.
another side note: Senator Robin Padilla, enough said

Need a genuine opposition, man. It's what got this batch of oligarchs elected.

As for democratic institutions, well, I hope they function well, and keep our sovereignty intact.

true we need a true/genuine opposition, sucks that the defacto opposition , LP and friends is just composed of political butterflies and oligarchs who would just switch allegiances like changing underwear. Heck, their rallies were hosted by the daughter of a known Marcos crony, and she happens to be the goddaughter of Imelda.

if only the likes of Leody have true bakcing, (no makabayan doesnt count as opposition, naka macbook at iphone sila hahaha)

God i need a drink

Most of us need drinks. I'm a history graduate, and fuck, history repeating itself. At least Keiko Fujimori lost in Peru, and Germany punishes Holocaust denial. Nazis won democratically, by the way. God, disinformation kills, but it was helped by the fact that many people shared in the post-EDSA gains. Oligarchy pa rin.

Gaddafi's son got disqualified, but that decision was reversed. If he wins, at least we ain't the only country that's stupid.

I wish Ka Leody gains more traction over the years. He looks like a promising candidate. Hope he runs as senator for this midyear term.

the results of the elections just remind me of a old paper/book of Fukuyama (ata) on why the general public keeps going back to the authoritarian types after a long experience with a unstable democratic regime. its just like a person who keeps coming back to a abusive partner out of belief that he/she has no future withh a new lover

It's much more complicated than you think.

Ghaddafi was bad but the people after him were worse, hence, the constituents went with the clan they are most familiar with.

Can we actually say the leaders after Marcos Sr. were any better? They were mediocre at best and didn't alleviate the ills of our society. The people got fed up and gave in to misinformation that the ML era were the golden years.

Fukuyama, the end of history, right? Didn't tackle that paper you mentioned as part of our historiography classes.

Anyways, holy shit. That's an interesting viewpoint. That should be standard material for history classes, or at least part of an elective.

Yup Fukuyama's End of History, though it has been debunked numerous times, im still reminded by this keypoint from one oy my lectures (poldynamics)

Ken Kesey’s One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest as a analogy for Soviet Totalitarianism
Ultimate goal of totalitarianism: not to simply deprive the new soviet man of his freedom but to make him fear freedom in favor of security and to affirm the goodness of his chains and coercion

NB: One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest is one messed up book and its film is messed up as well

LP should be demolish now and need to refresh things... try to be nice in the public and find a good guy to fit their principles w/o an Aquino baggage.. I guess 2028 will be a big roller coaster ride for the opposition party....

As IPC has said (we share this notion) we need a new opposition

Best bet for that is probably Ka Leody. Might need to work on policy, though. Plus, is he palatable to the international community?

he needs to surround himself with bright minds from the academe to make his campaign battle cry operational, plus yeah, red flag on globalization/intl relations thingy

The two old parties (NP and LP) are fucked. The NP's fallen in with this oligarchic party, and the LP, well, they're ruined.

Hontiveros, may baggage na, with the dilaw movement.

I consider myself a conservative, being Catholic, but a right-wing (and left-wing) administration and legislature scares me.

Let's see how this goes.

And we're small and not that strong, economy-wise and military-wise (especially the navy). So out of practicality, we need to link up with other countries, starting with the ASEAN nations, and also the West. Deter potential threats like China.

I guess it's just me but with the current turn of events, the future just became more uncertain. While I did not vote for the frontrunner, I will still respect the democratic process and continue to be a law-abiding, but more cautious and vigilant PHL citizen. I'm gonna keep an open mind about this and be willing to give the BBM the first 3 years of his presidency (as if naman may choice ako) to deliver some of his promises, and goddammit, he better deliver.

I know it's still very very early and I hope to God that it won't happen, pero I can't do anything right now but to repeatedly sing in my head:

Come one come all, into nineteen eighty-four
Yeah, three-two-one, lights camera transaction

I hope some of you guys get the reference.
