Philippine Politics

You need to take into consideration the failures of successive administrations in solving our problems. Not their fault really as the damage done by the Marcos regime was too huge to be solved in one six-year presidential term.

Why are people jumping on the Marcos bandwagon again? It's because the past administrations have failed to deliver and proven to be just as corrupt.

So they resort to a comforting lie about the Philippines being second to Japan back in the 70s and use that as a crutch to support BBM.

Yep, this one. They've failed to solve the problems in this country, although yes, they were given a bad hand. Even then, they could have genuinely reformed the country.

One reason I'm not ready to jump on the Leni bandwagon is not because I don't think she will do a good job.

It's because I don't want to overhype her too much.

Golden Rule of Politics: Everyone is corrupt to some degree. It's who delivers the necessary results that matters.

Well said brother. What you said really makes so much sense. For me the most foolish thing to do is become a "fanatic" of a certain candidate.

This is the problem with many of these diehard & fanatic voters. They tend to strongly believe that their respective candidates are so much better than the rest. They tend to think that their respective candidates are almost "clean", spotless & competent, while the rest are corrupt, incompetent & dirty. Its complete stupidity to think that way considering how dirty Philippine politics really is. Put someone who used to be honest, clean, idealistic & competent in Phi politics, and you bet after several years in politics, kakainin sya ng bulok na sistema.

Isn't Duterte was supposed to bring significant change to Philippine governance? Weren't so many of Pinoys expected him to bring change to the crooked & rotten system of our government? Didn't many of us expected Duterte to minimize corruption in the Phi government under his watch? But what happened, or what is happening? By the way, the very same person who said, "Corruption must stop" (And his diehard supporters were quick to believe him), is the same person who is defending Sec. Duque, atty. Lao, Michael Yang & the Pharmally officials - people who are under Senate investigation for suspected corruption & anomalous acts which may have prejudice the interest of the government & might have stolen great amount of taxpayers' money.

How can one man/woman or a few people bring change to what has been a corrupt, crooked, rotting, stinky & malignant system of our government which have been there for decades? It would take more than just honesty, integrity, skills, leadership to bring that "change". Above everything, it would take a very very very strong "will" to make that change to happen - something which our past Presidents, including the much revered Rodrigo R. Duterte, didn't/doesn't have. Let's be honest to our selves, the fight against corruption failed under this current administration as much as it did in the previous administration.

Kung makapagsalita ang iba dyan, akala nila ang linis-linis at ang galing-galing ng kandidato nila. I bet if their candidate ends up winning the Presidential election, after a few years, they will only end up in despair as their candidate would fail to meet their expectations. As always.

We've seen these things before. Well, I hope I would be proven wrong.

Duterte's legacy:

War on drugs - Mostly successful, except that it cost thousands of lives

Fight against Corruption - total failure just like the previous administrations. I can't help but think, maybe if it also cost thousands of lives in the fight against corruption, most Filipinos would have appreciated it much better. Imagine a Philippine government with only very few corrupt gov't officials left, that is if they are brave enough to continue their corruption despite of the danger that they might be killed any time. Imagine how prosperous our country would have been had corruption been kept to a minimum.

Its ridiculous that Duterte, who projects himself as someone who won't take corruption lightly, ended up lawyering for gov't officials under Senate investigation for suspected plunder/corruption.

Past Presidents/administrations have failed miserably in the fight against corruption. What makes us that optimistic that the next President of the republic is finally the one who can solve the corruption menace which have plaque our country for decades?

Nope, I think the son of the "Dakilang Mandarambong" is the strongest candidate. And I'm afraid he will be back in Malacanang after more than 3 decades.

With the way these fanatics think, I won't be surprised to see if they're apologists for the Nazis as well.

I won't be surprised that someday these same fanatics would believe that Hitler, Stalin, Mao Zedong, Pol Pot, Papa Doc, Saddam Hussien, Muammar Gaddafi, were kind, merciful & noble beings. And all these because of what they would be seeing/reading in youtube or the internet.

Now there's a petition to cancel Bongbong's certificate of candidacy due to his tax evasion conviction, and the offense happened while Bongbong was governor of Ilocos Sur. Pursuant to the Tax Code, a public officer convicted under the Tax Code is perpetually disqualified from voting and running for public office.

Problem is, nobody brought this up when Bongbong was running for Senator. Estoppel might apply. Estoppel is when you don't contest the action of the opposing party the first time, your silence counts as your consent. Parang touch move.

Hate him or love him, but they are obviously only doing this because of how strong of a candidate he is right now. I don’t think anyone can beat him, especially if Sara supports him as President, whether if she runs as a VP for him or endorses him through HNP. No candidate right now has the numbers to beat him in my opinion. Only chance for any opposition candidate to win is if half or all of the Sara voters will go to Isko or Leni (the only 2 strong opposition candidates). I mean to be frank even if Leni or Isko would step down for a more united opposition, the combination of voters from BBM and Sara is too strong to overcome.

As you mentioned, no one brought up these cases when he ran for Senator or Vice President. Personally, I don’t like anyone right now. I think every candidate is full of sh*t, which is why I did not register to vote. I just hope that whoever wins, whether that is Manny P, Ping, Leni, Isko, BBM or whoever, will do a decent job. The only candidate I like is Willie Ong. I think he will be a good VP. I also hope that there could be changes in our constitution especially when it comes to foreign ownership. It is one of the driving forces why our economy is lagging (protectionism politics/Filipino first)(https://correctphilippines.org/filipino_first_fail/).

The fact that Bongbong is a strong candidate is scary. This, despite what happened during his father's regime. The succeeding administrations failed to teach this history and remind them every time. On top of that, they weren't much better for the common people. Parang walang pagbabago. It's a big reason why the pro-Marcos propaganda has been so strong.

Nope, I don't think that is the case. Its more of the Marcoses & their loyalists have done a great job of brainwashing many Pinoys' mind into believing that, contrary to the negative things that people have said about Ferdinand Marcos before, he was in fact a brilliant President. I say very effective yung mga social media campaign ng mga pro-Marcos vloggers to brainwash people's mind. As we can see, pro-Marcos Pinoys now would rather believe what they see, hear, read in youtube, facebook, internet than hard & uncontroverted facts.

Let's accept the fact that there are only very very few Pinoys who exhibit enough degree of rationale, objectivity & discernment as majority are easily blinded by their biases, prejudice & ignorance. And sadly, this is something that the Marcoses & their ever loyal followers are able to capitalize. Notice how these pro-Marcos people demonized the Aquinos/Cojuancos & the Yellows while deeply revering Ferdinand & Imelda Marcos. All these are products of effective social media campaign by the pro-Marcoses to twist & revise history.

Maybe Bongbong would do a decent job as President, if only to redeem the shitty image of his father. I say, this is the main reason why Bongbong is aiming for the Presidency, mainly to redeem his father's & family's shattered reputation. That's the only best hope I can make right now becoz I know Bongbong is most likely gonna win.

So let's brace ourselves na for the worst which we pray would not happen.

In case Bongbong Marcos repeats history & once again put the Philippines into misery just like what his father did, I say, we Filipinos will elect several Ferdinand Marcoses over & over again & yet will never learn any lesson.

The thing is, ERAP & aling Gloria were also convicted of crimes which are even worse than what Bongbong was convicted of, yet both have run for public office thereafter & even won.

Philippine politics is a sh*t show. Every candidate is full of sh*t in my opinion. I will try to explain each candidate’s BS, the strong ones at least.

First up is Bongbong, the strongest candidate and likely winner in this election. How hard is it to not apologize? I understand if the dude was a 3 year old and had nothing to do with his father, but man, you were 28 and a Governor of Ilocos on top of that.

Next up is Leni, who played politics from the moment she was elected. Even Binay worked hand in hand with Noynoy (correct me if I'm wrong). LP is also a hypocrite party and really does have something to do with the media in PH. Let me explain.

I remember how badly the LP smeered against Binay when he was on top of the world in the polls and used Trillianes to attack him, similar to how Bongbong used Gadon to attack people. Now they are running together as senators under Leni, unbelivable.

Only way for Bongbong to screw things up for him especially with how likely the HNP at least will support him if he does badly in the debate. But to be honest even with how good or bad the candidates will be in the debates, it will be pointless. Lets say Leni will come out as the best in the debates, yet the supporters of bongbong would continue to talk sh*t while lets say Bongbong is the winner in the debates, same thing for leni supporters.

Maybe Bongbong would do a decent job as President, if only to redeem the shitty image of his father. Contrary to how many people hate Duterte, I think he did a decent job, even if I did not vote for him. People should understand that Duterte was transparent about his drug war and they all voted for this. At least he somewhat delivered on his promises (3-6 months promise but he did continue his drug war). Minus his policies on China and his coronavirus response, I would say he would have been a good president. People should start understanding between the lines. There's a reason why Duterte was offered a cabinet position by past administrations from Ramos to Noynoy. Hell, before he was president, he was part of the LP for christ sake. He was even friends with the late Jesse Robredo. Politics is a sh*t fest, one day your friends and eating together, the next day your political enemies.

I just hope everyone will vote on policy and not blindly vote through emotion. Imagine Miriam running 3 times and losing. Like I said, PH politics is a sh*t show. I did not even register to vote. Let's all hope that whoever wins will be decent. I don't even care if Manny wins the presidency or whoever, as long as they do a decent job.

How can Bongbong apologize for all the evil his father have done for our country when he himself believes that his father was a good & revered President? Bongbong has been saying that his father has been misjudged by history. Or maybe Bongbong is just on self denial, trying to convince himself that his father was a noble & revered President. Well, somehow I can't blame Bongbong for having such attitude & mentality. Eh maraming mga Pinoy ang naniniwala na walang ginawang kasalanan sa bansa si Ferdinand Marcos. Why admit the wickedness of your father & be apologitic when many Pinoys are already convinced that Ferdinand Marcos was a good President?

The Marcoses & their ever loyal followers have done a great great job of brainwashing many Pinoys into believing that Ferdinand Marcos was a brilliant President.

It took three decades and six administrations for the majority of people to change their minds about the Marcoses. I remember that Imelda ran for president in 1992 and she hardly had any numbers compared to Ramos and Miriam (can't believe she lost!). The problem with our country is that no matter what administration, from Cory to Ramos to Estrada and so on, they all had incompetence written all over them.

It does not help that the LP and other political powers in this country have been a bunch of greedy hypocrites. If only there had been someone good in the last three decades, but there has been nothing but corruption after corruption. Which is why Bongbong is number 1 right now. People can justify it after all that happened. If we had had good leaders from the get go, it would have been less likely that Marcos would be leading in the polls right now.

If only PNoy did a decent job & distanced himself from Mar Roxas, I believe LP would still be strong at this point. Strong enough to put a very good challenge against the son of ang "Dakilang Mandarambong" in the 2021 election

Honestly, I feel bad for Mar Roxas. Prior to Cory’s death, he was the leading frontrunner for the presidency in 2010. He essentially gave up the presidency out of respect for Cory and his close friend, Noynoy. In a way, Noynoy’s blunders from the hostage situation, SAF, dengvaxia, train, Yolanda, etc., ruined Mar’s presidencial aspirations in 2016. The fact that the LP did not have a single senator who won in 2019 shows how weak their party is right now. It also showed why, quote unquote, Leni is running as an "independent" and rebranded even if she is the LP Chairman. Ironically, I believe Noynoy, not Mar, was ultimately responsible for LP's demise.

This is also a major factor. The fact that we have no run-off elections when there is no clear majority winner means all a candidate needs is to be first past the post.

I really like France’s electoral system where they have a second round. As the article states, a dirty politician needs to cheat twice if he/she wants to win an elections with run-offs. We could have honestly overturned Duterte’s victory in 2016 if we had a second round because MDS, Mar, and GP votes would have went to any of them.

No, none of them were necessarily better but we would have definitely mitigated all the fuck ups of this current administration.
