also why did you not play in the U-20 U-18 Phil teams when you said you were a Filipino citizen." It will be an epic fail.

"Becoz the RP youth team head coach, who was so obsessed with small line up, never bothered to invite me for either the U-16/17 & U-18/19 youth teams. It didn't help that I'm a tall player."

Just kidding:cool:

Those questions are easy to answer and based on his interviews, QMB has a good head on his shoulders so he won't have any problem responding unless he is lying.

Yeah, QMB is no KG Canaleta when it comes to interview.

It doesn't matter if he never went to the Philippines if he really has that green passport. And I agree with Jamskie: "I never played with the youth team because the required center for those teams should stand 6'4" in height. The coach doesn't want to look up when he is talking to his players." hahaha

There are so many filfors who visit the Philippines for the first time as adults. They love the country and would have loved to visit sooner...but, as a child, you're at the mercy of your parents/family. You can't just fly to a far away country on your own.

I would go out on a limb and say that QMB failing any hypothetical interview is a remote possibility. The guy might be the smartest in all of uaap.

QMB has an Engineering degree. Yup, he just might be at the top when it comes to brain power among the UAAP players.

for all the raucous some of us are making on his nationality status I believe QMB don’t pay much attention to it. Anyways he had graduated Mechanical Engineering degree with Academic honors in Vanderbilt University, completed post-graduate degree in Citadel, a military school and on the verge of getting another masters degree in UP. He has lot of options. There would be a lot of automobile companies in Japan who would like to offer him 6 or 7 figures monthly salary (in Philippine pesos) if he decide not to pursue basketball career. And yes, he can definitely play there as world import status instead of Asian import quota status. And if PBA stick to its policy on monthly salary of rookies of 150k monthly. No brainer QMB will not bite on that.

For him basically no incentive for him to play for PBA unless the PBA team that may draft him will circumvent the rules on rookies’ salary. But again hello tax office…

Not really tax cheating if they offer businesses which SMC does.

I am not sure QMB can make it as world import in Div 1 B league. I think you underestimate those guys. Without validation of his Gilas eligibility, QMB’s options are limited. He can take a 1 year contract in the PBA and await the SMC and TNT offers the ff year. Not bad I think. He needs to be careful though. Guys like Datu and Villegas have been injured. Still a rim protector and post defender is rare in the PBA. Meralco wouldnt have won against SMB without Bates. QMB will be a difference maker for any team except probably SMB.

don’t underestimate what’s on QMB’s mind, he is a clever boy. A decision to forego basketball career I believe is one of his option. He will finish his second masters degree in UP and he will be the master of his destiny. And yes QMB has better US NCAA basketball credentials than some of the World Imports in B.league…

In QMB's case the obvious play here is to get his eligibility/FIBA clearance and then secure a contract in either the B league or in the KBL. For a player of his caliber the PBA should be one of his last options if he does intend to pursue a career in professional basketball.

There are reports that Terrafirma Dyip are now willing to release and trade CStand. The team are still having rights on player despite his retirement. The question is “will this entice CStand to come out from retirement and come back?

An intriguing trade idea is to swap CStand with NorthPort’s rights on free agent Dave Ildefonso. I think it be a win-win for both teams. A reunion of CStand with NorthPort would be interesting…

Not sure if QMB is eligible for KBL Asian Quota, most of what i read suggest that he isn't.

That said, I think QMB knows his options in the BLeague and that's the reason his camp made sure people/scouts know that he can be FIBA-eligible and drum up interest and offers. Best case scenario and most likely initial plan for QMB's camp is that he won't need any help from SBP to validate his eligibility when he shows his green passport.

Now with the Chua interview surfacing where he emphasized the need to verify the passport, best move for QMB now is to pivot and to build a relationship with the SBP stakeholders--which he could be doing now by showing up to the PBA game.

I also noticed he seem to have a mouthpiece already in the media sending feelers to basketball authorities and to the public, which is good for his camp if used correctly.

nope, he cannot play in KBL as an Asian Quota, both parents must be full-blooded Filipino as a requirement

I dont think they need to be full blooded, just filipino citizens.

Korean Baekpd1983 said 3 years ago in Twitter that KBL is looking for pure blooded Filipinos, not mixed because a lot of online Filipinos keep recommending to him mixed blooded players. If you are looking at all the Filipinos playing or have played in KBL, they are all pure-blooded even if they have Canadian or American citizenship like Calvin Epistola, Avan Nava and Ethan Alvano. This is why you can't see mixed white/black Filipinos because KBL is strict about this.

.

Yup for the very same reason I am doubtful about the possibility of QMB to play in KBL as an Asian quota import but maybe as a world import…

Baekpd1983 inquired about Jason Brickman early this year 2024 because he saw how good he was in the Taiwan League, but he lost interest when he was told Brickman has mixed blood.

I think it changed with the De Lianos who aren't full blooded. Fil-Spanish.

KBL requires the player & both parents to have current philippine passports. so for example if norman black acquires a philippine passport now then his son aaron will be eligible to play in the kbl

Yes, that got me into thinking what happened with the De Liano brothers, could it be because KBL is really "SKbl". KBL could become more liberal and accepting as time passes by.
