Like I said, making it about Parity is misdirection. And those who keep making it about Parity are misdirecting. It is a symptom, not the problem.

Let me make it simple, forget Parity. How do we ensure that all teams are genuinely aiming to win championships? That's how the NBA in its very essence works even without equal resources among teams.

Do you have ideas of your own?

"How do we ensure that all teams are genuinely aiming to win championships?"

We should ask that question for the PBA teams who've participated in the EASL (TNT, SMB, MERALCO). Especially SMB, who got blown out by a total of 83 points in the pocket tourney version in March 2023. If you aim to win, you should aim to win in competitive situations everywhere.

That means MERALCO has to attract fans. The non-SMC teams have to attract fans.

Kinda difficult for Meralco to built a fanbase, especially when basketball fans check their electricity bills lols

It really is mind boggling how some people seem to have charcoal powered brains that they actually blame the independent teams for being unable to keep in step with the corporate teams. It is the job of the commissioner, league officials and board members to ensure there is a level playing field but the problem is they are not doing their job. The system is rigged for the corporate teams who almost have a monopoly, in the PBA's case a duopoly (SMC and MVP teams) for the top draft talents every year. I dare the guy to name a basketball league where there are farm teams that trade away their top picks to the top teams right away without having them even finishing their rookie year with them (BGR).

And it is useless to always mention the salary cap when discussing about the PBA because the league doesnt enforce it. The only way for independent teams to keep in step and become competitive is through the draft, in the NBA you either sign top talents to build your team or you build through the draft. And through an effective draft system the small market teams like san antonio, denver and milwaukee were able to compete and win. Same is true with the PBA the only way for independent teams to keep in step with the corporate teams who doesnt follow the league rules when it comes to contracts is through the draft but the PBA has allowed the draft process to become such a farce by allowing the corporate teams to keep farm teams.

I guess alot of countries that does not have salary cap are charcoal powdered brain. Yet they are multi billionaires and your not. You got to open your mind and ask yourself why top teams that spend wins more.

What will be the salary cap or team expense If you much it with SMC 350M a year then alot of independent teams will not be able to afford it. If you lower it then players will be disadvantages. And alot more will go outside of our country to play. PBA will lose top players. So what will be your solution

We can never assure a team will do things for betterment of league. We hope they do but no guarantees.

We can. Just remove salary cap and trades altogether. This will force top spenders team to spend as much as they can. Thus will also raise players value. Hopefully the small teams whi can't afford will just leave and those who are capable and see the real competition cab assess how much they need to spend to be a champs. Full disclosure .

I think PBA doesn't know the impact if they move away from NBA type of structure to a Euroleague setup. It's might be a way for PBA to be more honest and transparent. Fans will appreciate eventually the transparency.

Lol shall I send you some cash to buy some more charcoal? Like I said mentioning the salary cap when discussing the PBA is useless because the league doesnt enforce it. Address the real problem and that is the broken draft system due to the farm teams lol

Rather send suggestions. Again even if you have draft the player like CJ will pick to play on SMC than Terrafirma a d ask for a trade. Like ROS loss a starter in Nambatac, how will you prevent that.

LOL do back read some of my posts since I already mentioned about the problem and outlined that farm teams are keeping independent teams from acquiring top rookie talents. Now as for solutions what the PBA should do is get rid of the farm teams or make it so that the league cripple their ability to send the top players to the corporate teams. What the PBA could do is make it so that at the very least the top 5 picks arent tradeable and make these players bound to the teams that drafted them for maybe 4 or 5 years. With some regulations in place, Independent teams are then assured of top tier talents for a significant number of years. You can get creative and get rid of player trades altogether to prevent any collusion between teams. There are many ways to fix the broken draft system and there have been numerous suggestions made by other posters to make the draft serve its purpose again. Instead of parroting that bone headed excuse "oh independent teams should spend as much as the big teams to keep up" why not hold the league officials accountable for not doing their job to level the playing field.

The removal of the salary cap can be something worthwhile IF it was something being really implemented in the first place. Just like government taxation...it is something that elites find ways to go around (evade) and only normal and less savvy people follow.

Real removal of salary cap can be interesting though if it is in conjunction with another thing...opening up team ownership. Really open it up to Private Equity (NBA style with multiple owners), global/multinational product sponsors, city-ownership, etc. or whoever ownership can be dynamic. Here's a video of New Taiwan Kings CEO (private equity) who revitalized his team...

https://youtu.be/W57xhWNUlbQ?si=dz9go0Hroo4ObNZ4

The PBA has been gamified where profitability is not the overriding motive. Unless teams are motivated to make the best product as possible and make as much money as possible, then nothing worthwhile is achieved. Dynamism, creativity and true development happens if profitability is unleashed.

Because of all the manipulation, we haven't really seen what a true open market is capable of in our pro basketball setting.

One thing I agree with you is the need for Transparency.

Its partly on the critics of the PBA that parity became a talking point. People like Snow depend on sources from indy teams so "parity" becomes a talking point. Dude talks heavily to Blackwater, which is obviously a farm team.

Pinoys aren't aware of "spin doctors." There are actually people who's job is to "spin" (manipulate, deflect, gloss over) facts/issues into their favor. It's one lobbying tactic used to shape public sentiment and discourse.

Also pay attention to the media on how shallow/idiotic (but sensational) news items are shoved into our faces and make it look like such a big deal. It makes people forget about other issues (btw, where is mayor farm girl now?).

I think even without the media focus the smart fans are already aware of the lack of balance and the issues destroying the PBA (lopsided trades, blatant disregard of salary cap rules and farm teams).

If I were a prominent critic of the PBA, my main criticism would be that the PBA treats its fans like idiots. The farm team trades for example, no one believes those are motivated by basketball. But this "parity" or "salary cap" for me is off. If the PBA was strict with its salary cap, all the top talent would be abroad by now. Same with parity, there are negatives to those ideas when you think about it.

this people think that if the PBA will really be strict with the salary rule top players will go to teams like Rain or Shine, no they will go to other leagues that pay better, but they should really be transparent on how much is the annual salary cap for each team, how many players should be earning this much, and if the teams are over the cap they should pay a luxury tax or like forfeiting a draft pick, the max salary allowed is being use by some teams to lowball their players, no wonder they are having a hard time to renew them, this is the reality in sporting world in order to compete and win teams and athletes invest and spend big

The PBA is a BIR scandal waiting to happen. Imagine the amount of collusion happening between players and teams regarding salaries. Remember when Yeng Guiao asked what is the difference between the max salary of an independent team versus the max salary of teams like San Miguel and TNT?

Won't happen. SMC is a big contributor to election campaign funds.
