Does geo Chiu have a year left in college.. he might be a low key recruit of converge in 2nd round (1st/2nd pick)

bigger question is: will Converge still draft Balti at 1 if suddenly a super prospect or one if the kbl/Japan guys decides to enter the pba

serious question is Balit a lock at not 1 for next yr’s draft?

this blog assumes that Hepa might enter the draft, Balti projected as 4th pick

Converge can theoretically trade their 1st pick to a team with 2 first round picks like Blackwater. They maybe move down to 2nd or 3rd pick and get another late first and partner Balti with another solid rookie (like a Statham or a Domingo).

Few days ago, I heard despite the strong start of Terrafirma, that Holt is eventually headed to Mags.

Snow posted a rumor today that most people are assuming that it’s Holt to Ginebra or SMB. But afaik it’s actually Mags if they dont change plans. (Remember, Stanhardinger was bound for Mags before heading to SMB/Ginebra instead back then)

I hope that the laos, uy and delta are smart enough to trade down

So lao will use schonny winston to get Encho as he self proclaimed that he fix the contract issues of Arana and Stockton already..

Yup. Snow is a good PR manager for them because he has the connections and the following, to be honest. Unlike the Nico Rocha guy who just literally came out of nowhere and is just joining the clout.

hmm i reckon Ginebra needs him more right now, they really miss prime Pringle now without Brownlee theyre really not a contender, Mags is also like the Meralco NLEX of the SMC teams, gets the scraps

and Holt's play style isn't really a fit with the Mags who play a lot of 3-guard lineups who can pressure the ball and push the pace. Worst case scenario, he'll be used as a 4 majority of the time. His fit with SMB to replace the ageing Lassiter and with GSM and the injured Gray is much cleaner.

They use Paul Lee in their 3-guard lineups in the past, so Holt can fit with two better defenders.

Lol its just a matter of time when people will realize that Snow badua is the new pr guy of Jacob lao..the Jonnel Policarpio thing is SGA all over

Actually most of the games that I saw this season were pretty exciting. Many of the games were unpredictable. Heck even a few of the Converge games were unpredictable. Was it against NP were they led by double digits for 3 quarters? Actually even ROS seems to be tanking. They lost a game vs TNT because they missed a lot of FTs. But still some of their games are close.

I didnt see the BW vs TF game last night. But BW led the game by 20 pts only for TF to catch up in the 4th.

Teams actually have good young talents. In terms of personnel I would say only SMB and GSM are clearly superior. SMB with JMF and GSM with CS and Japeth. The rest have bigs that can mostly cancel each other out.

Then you have the younger tall mobile forwards. Teams like NP are pretty exciting when they field an SF PF C trio of 6’5 and up guys who can run, dribble and shoot from outside.

The good thing about this conf is that the two farm teams are actually playing to their potential and not bent on out-losing each other. We know Converge and ROS are only strategically tanking. It is refreshing for me to see BW and TF maximizing their talents and actually trying to win games. Plus rookies like Lucero, Flores and others are exciting too see. They bring something new to the league.

The PF position is slowly filling out now in the PBA. Datu, Carino, Flores, Calma, and Villegas are coming in, and you have wings like Zav Lucero and Will Navarro who are capable of playing the 4. Add that to experienced rotation-quality fours like Santi Santillan or Cliff Hodge. And then you have wing talent like Zav, Will, Arvin, Oftana, and Malonzo.

The only thing that's lacking in the PBA nowadays is centers with enough size, length, strength, jumping, and/or mobility to actually play a starting role as the center. Only centers we have in the PBA fitting that category are June Mar (size), CStand (mobility and strength), and Japeth (size, jumping, and length).

The thing is the few good centers we have are playing outside of the PBA (Sotto, Edu and Baltazar). And speaking of bigs, I think Geo Chui will be a servicable big in the PBA since its not that often you see a homegrown center with the kind of size and mobility that he has. And I also hope that CJ Lane (if he ever finally makes it into the PBA) would be a capable big that can defend Junemar.

A lot of our lineup problems will be solved if SBP lobbied for local status for Ange Kouame. Him being a local opens up so many possibilities for tweaking the lineup, making Gilas more versatile. But we all know Al Panlilio is an imbecile.

1st step is for the PBA to consider him a local. jusmio SBP and PBA wont do this. (in essence why would FIBA consider him as a local if his own domestic league counts him as a foreigner)

Honestly, naturalized players like Ange, JB, and Blatche should be considered as locals. They're Filipino citizens now. Or at the very least, have them be permanent players, and they take up an import slot in import conferences.

for starters, the PBA could increase the frequency of games played in the Mega Manila area especially during the elimination rounds of the conferences, empty MOA arena and Smart Araneta doesn't look good on TV. (Or they could just have everyone on the camera side of the venues)

well PBA will take the dwindling attendance issue seriously if gross receipts is a main source of income of the league. TV ratings, social media views and gambling related income still the main revenue sources for the PBA.

Plus, it has been argued here repeatedly that team owners treat the league as a gentleman's club and as a big tax write-off, which is in total contrast of NBA teams (who exists as individual corporations)

That's why PBA is really irredeemable at this point unless the owners change the way they treat the league (highly unlikely). The same problem with MPBL to be honest.

PBA will continue to exist until SMC and MPIC decides to quit, dwindling gate receipt or not. Teams could have squeezed the hell out of the PBA, from merchandising, intellectual property, gate receipts etc., but no its just a big passion project slash tax break for the team owners.

at first i thought Dioceldo Sy and the 2 Dennis Uys could introduce innovations in the league. But no, similar to Yue and Que of ROS, they were eaten by the system.

Yeah, actually.

Now, look at the KBL, which made ₩4.4B (around ₱186M) from gate attendance in January. This article says they're on track to reach ₩10B (₱4.2M) for that:

Other leagues are taking measures to improve, e. If our teams keeps on treating the league as a tax break instead of a source of income, the PBA will just be as is. If there's any improvement, it will be slow. It will affect the reputation of the league among the fans. I mean, come on. EASL pa lang, the PBA teams were 2-14 the past two tournaments (and lost all games by double digits in March 2023, including a 55-point blowout loss by SMB).

Quinito says that the PBA season next year will have three conferences, with the All-Filipino in August : https://x.com/TheDeanQuinito/status/1775848680844869778?s=20

Hay, nako. A PBA three-conference season typically lasts 10-12 months. Do these guys realize that we have a FIBA tournament in August 5 next year, and we run the risk of not giving our guys sufficient prep time?

The governors are maximizing brand exposure, these are the downsides of treating the pba as a advertisement tool and as a taxbreak, they need to be ON for the entire year

So this explains the 3-conference format that keeps coming back.

I guess they are maximizing their money. On the other hand, giving a break for skills improvement and the like will improve their teams marketability. They can increase the games. The frequency of games can still be increased.
