PBA pay is decent but depends on your skillset. Certain FilAms that failed here are working in Target for example. But if you can make a good non working class salary, then its probably better to stay in a first world country. Heck even the likes of Chris Tiu or Jett Manuel had better options then the PBA. It really depends on your options.

Chris Tiu is a bad example since he can own a PBA team with what he has.

PBA Eligibility

PBA Eligibility

I think the PBA should consider these FSAs as locals, just have them take the Fil-foreigner slots. Can help teams solve many of their big man problems, whether starter or backup. Although I think expansion should come first.

For me, it's time for the PBA to revisit its player eligibility rule.

It's time for the PBA, to lower the rookie draft age requirements to 18 years old. And scratch the 2-year high school rule.

Yes, teams will pass some teenager on the draft or not even crack a spot on the main lineup, but for me, it's also an opportunity for PBA to improve their developmental league so that this kid will improve and getting paid at the same time.

And aside from that, they need to capitalize on that influx of FOREIGN STUDENT-ATHLETES, like having a rule that the bottom 6 teams can directly hire an FSA as local with the requirement that they have at least resided here a minimum of 3 years and will be treated as a local in terms of salary and status.

In addition, the Fil-foreigner limit should be changed to the FIBA-ineligible limit. I get that many Fil-fors are FIBA-ineligible, but we should not include the eligibles. Put the FSAs, naturalized players, and imports within that limit.

Hopefully, as soon as next season, naturalized players become locals, and imports who have played in the PBA for at least 3 conferences become full-time players.

Another trade: https://tbti.me/s22ijy

NorthPort receives: Joshua Munzon, Javi GDL
TerraFirma receives: Kevin Ferrer, Jesper Ayaay, 2023 2nd rounder, 2025 2nd rounder

To whom will Munzon go is the next question.

Both will probably go to SMB. They need wings

Methinks Mags first. They need a scoring option in Munzon moreso than SMB.

SMB do need tall wings and tweeners, but of the Navarro and Malonzo type, who can be dynamic for them on defense. Sila na lang naiiwan sa tall defensive wings and tweeners, e.

Note on Navarro: I'd still wish for Navarro to play overseas once he recovers.

Kevin Ferrer will do for now. Just gotta lose those excess poundage to improve mobility and he'd be a decent wing/stretch four for SMB.

On another note, I think Javi and Munzon will thrive and develop well with NorthPort. Thank their lucky stars that they got out of the cesspool that is TerraFirma.

I think so too. Munzon was really vocal about teaming up with CJ again after their 3x3 stint before CJ was traded to the Beermen.

Just a thought. Common denominator / theme talaga ng mga so called "farm teams" ang may problem ang player sa management no kaya sila nagtrade? This was the reason why Munzon was let go daw. Eh ganyan din reason why Malonzo was let go by NP as he and Pido weren't in good terms daw.

Trying to make a good PR move for the team and dinadamay pa yung player?

if i am Magnolia or SMB i'll be targeting Tolentino he is way better than these guys, may not be as athletic as Munzon, but Arvin is deadshot from the outside and he improved a lot in defense, though his laterals are still has a lot to improve with,

Tab is right ,
In a recent speech, talking to Fil Foreigners (in Australia), I know your dream is to go to US colleges and make the NBA, but if you have Filipino lineage and have a desire to pursue playing professional basketball, the ideal realistic pathway is through a Philippine college, then get a professional contract in an Asian league based on your Filipino lineage, (He's right , that the best realistic pathway for Filipinos, and it's financially rewarding.
As strange as it may seem, opening the doors for Filipinos to Asian leagues may actually be Tab's greatest legacy he's given to Philippine basketball (I'm serious), the irony is Tab may have lost his Gilas job because of this legacy he's pursued.

Make no mistake about it, Ballungay, Amos , Koon, Dwight didn't simply decide to go to the Philippines for Ateneo alone , they wanted to pursue a professional career in basketball. (Which is unrealistic for them in the US )

it just has a short term hit on the PBA. outside of that, we will see a better PH basketball after, probably, a decade. once PBA adjust itself to this reality. even if I dont watch the PBA, i am confident they will weather this and somehow make it work for the league. they just like the lime light.

PBA will never run out of players.. lots of them.. we all want PBA to make some changes.. but.. it might be a pipe dream

The fact that the top prospects are opting to go overseas first may force the PBA to change its approach. Make do with what playets they have and will have, and then try to market them. Plus, the FIBA-ineligible Fil-foreigners will look to the PBA first.

I'm toying with a few ideas right now to help improve the PBA.

1. A league-cup format, with the EASL being the 3rd tournament (to those who qualified)
-League is double round robin, played from October to June. Game days on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, but adjust as necessary for EASL and FIBA games. Finalists (or top whatever) qualify for the EASL.
-Cup is played in the midseason, probably in the whole of February. Top 8 teams at the time qualify. Games on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, but adjust as necessary for EASL and FIBA games. Best of 3 for each round from quarters to finals. You have 14-21 games.
-Win all three tournaments, and we get a Triple Crown, a new kind of Grand Slam, and in my view, more prestigious.

2. Luxury tax
- The NBA uses a luxury tax system in addition to their salary cap. In this system, teams above the luxury tax level pay extra for every peso above the luxury tax line, and the proceeds of the tax are distributed to non-taxpayers.
- This may help the non-taxpayers acquire money to pay for their stars and imports.

3. Allow imports for the whole season
- Up to 2 imports per team, one of which can be used on an Asian player or a naturalized player, or you can have two world imports.
- We need imports because they fill in areas where we are heavily lacking, such as 6'5"-6'7" wing players, 6'6"+ tweener forwards who can switch, rim protectors. We have a glaring scarcity in those areas, which frankly, we should be working on developing among our locals.
- They kinda add more excitement to the game. If they get scored on by locals, or beat by heavily-local teams, that will impress fans.

4. Transfer system
-Similar to the European system, wherein players are bought for a fee instead of traded players, although player swaps can be common.
-Allows farm teams and independent teams to sell to overseas teams. They might benefit if they ask a high price for a player under contract, and if they add a release clause (e.g. Will Navarro for P6-8M, Calvin Oftana for P8M, Japeth for P17M, June Mar for P20M, etc. I know some are not in farm teams, just providing examples of release clauses). Indie teams may use the funds to buy more players which they can develop and sell, and eventually get enough cash to contend.

I am just viewing this from a purely basketball and FIBA-adjustment standpoint. Not really business. If anyone can tweak this while maintaining profit (since it's a business), gladly appreciated.

The EASL isn’t the same without the CBA and the Taiwan situation is really messed up. At this rate, they should include the ABL Champion. The PBA will just send hotter chicks the next time EASL execs visits Manila so that they can talk them into the two-makeshift teams as the league tries to do another special format season complete with special draft to deal with the World Cup. Chances are, they’ll say: Fck it, one SMC team, one MPIC team.

It’s cute how Bay Area changes the make-up of their team alternating Nicholson and Powell just to comply with the PBA’s stupidity. How about just making the Governor’s and Commissioner’s Cups a literal Cup tournament simultaneously during the same season and tally the win-loss records for whoever should go to EASL? Some days 6’10 imports, others 6’6, All-Filipino on Sundays. That way, it ensures a full season of games that makes it easier to adjust for a major tournament between mid June to late September as well as FIBA windows and EASL games.

I get that the format right now is stupid, but that's how the PBA earns cash. More tournaments = more playoffs = more earnings. The PBA could earn more if there were solid fanbases outside of the SMC teams, but that will happen only if they are marketed well AND if the teams become competitive.

I do agree that the conferences should be merged, and maybe a cup-style tournament. Again, they fill in areas where we are heavily lacking, such as 6'5"-6'7" wing players, 6'6"+ tweener forwards who can switch, rim protectors. In some cases, a go-to guy as well. Sometimes, we need to plug more than one of these holes, e.
