So far, the Jackson - Johnson trade this season is the most fair trade.. both same position, same game style and even salary value of both players are even.. kumbaga if you do this on NBA2K video game, that trade will be first one to be approval.. No revision whatsoever.. Sana ganyan ang trade.. Not that trading young gun to old one or healthy guy to injured guy... Ganyan sana!!!

LOL so Vic Manuel for Arwind is not? nagmamarunong ka na naman.

I remember during Sudan's and Ekwe's time they would post insane block numbers because the locals haven't adjusted to their length and athleticism. Nowadays you won't see such stats anymore because everyone is used to playing with them.

And now, ayun. Can't get used to length and height of foreigners if there's none. And the PBA is also somewhat doing that, although with a 6'6" height limit instead of a total ban on imports. Our 6'6"-6'8" bigs can't play 4 next to a shorter import, or without an import.

6'6 wings forced to play big against our 6'7 and above players. Even FSAs in college are taller than that. Ola and co aren't really that busy nowadays. Why can't they just sign them?

Yeah, the 6'6" players are usually wings. They might have to play 4 (in a small-ball setting of course), and 5 in extreme occasions where the team severely lacks size. At least our locals will go up against athletic wings who can offer some weakside defense (although it's a mismatch).

As for the tall ex-FSAs, oo nga, why not sign them instead? They could offer size and rim protection, and interior presence, which is what a lot of PBA teams need. The locals would adjust, especially the slashers and the 6'5"-6'8" bigs. The slashers would have to get more creative finishes, and the 6'5"-6'8" bigs would have to learn to play 4.

Makes the most sense. Allow the FSAs to fill the need for 6'10+ centers and let the local 6'5-6'8 guys to develop their skills as 2-3-4.

Yeah considering that they mostly outplayed their local counterparts in college they'd still offer quite a challenge to our players. Heck it would be a big story line if the locals can out class them this time around. And considering that they're even playing in ligang labas now and small time leagues they'd be considerably cheaper than hiring pro imports.

Trevis did well in the D League to be fair. But they should've gotten Tratter as they also got Quinto in the 2nd round who somewhat plays the same position as Mocon.

Yes! I've been telling people that Quinto plays like Mocon except more deliberate. He's less athletic after all. He posted better stats in college but Mocon played with Bolick, Potts etc.

But they didn't really need a PG back then not as bad as bigmen and scorers. The pick probably affected Amer's confidence and lowered his trade value. But yeah Tratter would have been good especially if he gets to be paired with Almazan

not true salary-wise.

PBA would be better off adopting similar competition format/calendar used by top European football leagues.

1. Regular season + 3 rounds of playoffs (with imports) - from 2nd week of October to 4th week of April. Will run concurrently with the EASL season.
2. PBA/SBP/All-Local Invitational Cup (all-local) - from 2nd to 4th week of May.
3. PBA Super Cup (with imports) - will be contested by semifinalist or next-best finishers from the first 2 tournaments, from 2nd to 4th week of June. Finalists of this tournament will qualify to next season's EASL tournament.
4. Off-season months during last week of June to 3rd week of September. Annual draft and training/rookie camp will also be held within this period. Both events especially the training/rookie camp should be televised.
5. Televised pre-season games from late-September to early-October.
6. New season on 2nd week of October.

4 possible titles and an almost all-year round television exposure by PBA and its clubs. This is my dream for PBA.

This could be an interesting format for the PBA. They keep the number of games and can still make some money off the fans while keeping the level of competition good, and be FIBA-friendly as well.

I just hope that in your proposed with import tournaments, they don't impose a height limit.

7. Instead of Companies, teams should represent locations with the sponsor being attached to the clubs like Antipolo+SMC or QC+TNT.

The only problem I see with this is that PBA would have more reason to not lend players in November, February, and June FIBA qualifying windows due to conflicts in schedule. Participation in the November and February windows could have a chance if their board governors would agree in my previous suggestion to compress the PBA game schedules 15 days before and after each FIBA window, to make up for the lost time that would be caused by international breaks.

As for the import height limits, yes i agree they shouldn't impose. Maybe come up with a reasonable combined ceiling height just like before, yes, but bottom line is it would be better to not impose on an individual basis.

its a toss up. but i think rike is not good defensively. i think pasaol was the better pick over rike.

Honestly i think they were really targeting Pasaol given he landed at number 9. Since him at 9 is considered a steal, and Rike seems to be labeled as raw. Coach Norman Black's teams tend to have win now centers rather than developing (Greg Slaughter, Enrico, Ford Arao). Rabeh might be an exception though.

Oh, Black is usually a win-now type of guy when it comes to bigs. That's why Chua and Erram didn't get much opportunity in Ateneo.

You can see the long term goal of their league to improve their local players. Philippine leagues like the PBA? Forget it.

Yeah, leagues like the PBA are usually win-now kinds of leagues, and even place winning over development, the latter of which is left to the farm teams. Teams like SMB, Ginebra, and TNT generally trade for their core players instead of developing them. However, Magnolia, the independent teams and lower-level playoff contenders e.g. NLEX, Phoenix, RoS, and even Alaska and NorthPort can develop their key players. Pero oo nga, developing projects ain't exactly much of a thing here. The last project that became a star-level player was what, Erram?

Japeth to B.League is still a thing: https://www.spin.ph/basketball/fiba...uilar-on-japan-b-league-offers-a2244-20211207

It's possible, but Japan's tightened their visa restrictions. Plus, Ginebra's "warming up" extension talks.

In view of this, they better start getting bigs, especially given the fact that Japeth and JDV are old, and CStan is also aging, and there's a rumor that he might leave after this coming conference. That leaves just Caperal as their reliable big, and he's under 30.

Shame that they let go of Ken Holmqvist (he's not in the roster list). He could have been useful, even as a backup.

Oh, well, some bigman prospects are worth looking at in the draft. Christian Fajarito, Christian Buñag, Brandon Rosser, Brandon Bates. Sige, there's Justin Arana and Jeo Ambohot, but I'd rather have them develop at the 4, and if possible, 3.

Brandon Rosser would be the most logical choice for BGSM and probably the best option among the names you mentioned as replacement for CStand should he decide to not re-sign. He's already too ripe for the PBA anyways.

Fajarito would also be a good option for PF/small-ball C with his athleticism and for being a strong finisher underneath the rim. Kinda reminds me also of RDO, yung outside shooting na lang ang kulang.

Bates upside is his height and aggression on the defensive end. He would be an additional rim protector for BGSM along with Japhet.

OK, so Cone says that CStand just got his contract extended, so that "last conference" rumor might turn out to be bullshit.

He will adjust, but it's best if he and Japeth sub for each other for most of the game. Maybe he'll prove me wrong, that Ginebra made the right move for him. I previously said that Ferrer and Manganti were better fits.

He'll lessen Ginebra's need for a big, and make them focus on the forward spots. Still, they could use another big in the near future, when age really starts to hit Japeth and even CStand.

That's great for BGSM then. It's too early to say that the CStand acquisition is a total bust but still, the coaching has got to find a way on how to utilize an asset like him to the fullest. Perhaps, someone in the BGSM/SMC circle could tame CStand and convince him to fully commit and play within the CTC's system first? They already have Pringle as their main one-on-one offensive option and it still works well.

I fully agree on the next gen of bigs that BGSM must invest on. There are a lot of young guys in the amateurs and minor leagues to choose from but only problem is, will they be ready enough for CTC's triangle offense system? Dun na lang talaga magkakatalo eh.

Something I never understood is why MVP's teams in the PBA always underperform.

Actually. The SMC teams have been a roadblock for them. The MVP teams tend to choke against them for some reason in the years before they won the All-Filipino a couple months ago.

Probably because of SMC teams huge advantage on firepower? It also didn't help that SMC teams hoarded all the legit bigmen in the league and that TNTs premier players are close to retirement by the time JF and were drafted.
