Besides the USD 1M prize for the champion, is there also a bonus for teams that would qualify for the tournament slots?

I hope that the champions of EASL will be the representative of FIBA intercontinental cup next year.. this year, continents from Africa, Europe, G-league, south and Central America compete but no representative from Asia.. hope this one have this time..

This should have been the role of FIBA Asia Champions Cup. But unfortunately FIBA doesn't have real control over club teams (unlike FIFA which mandates that each continent's champion participate in FIFA Club World Cup).

Today's basketball is a game of pick-n-rolls and pick-n-pops. If you can't defend PNR and PNP and the perimeter well, your team will lose. PBA is no exception to that as we witnessed how TNT was able to beat Junmar-led SMB with TNT having shorter but more mobile and more versatile bigs like Erram, Troy and Kelly in their fold.

In the PBA, this has been a winning formula just now with TNT. TNT will have to win consistently for this philosophy to stay.

Hot take: I really think the Kelly Williams Unretirement was a Big move.

It is literally the first move Coach Chot do when he was assigned to coach this team. Kelly just not offer leadership, he also provides Versatility. As he is strong enough to at least fight in the post. And quick enough to outskilled the other slow footed bigs.

Erram and Troy are good Bigs. But Erram is more of a traditional Big with an outside shot, while Troy is a stretch 4.

Believe me, with Chot at the helm with a plethora of 6'6-6'8 mobile bigs, TNT will be the fixture in the finals for years to come. I don't really know how slow bigmen like Slaughter, Junmar and Laput will defend the perimeter against Kelly, Troy, Poy and even Dave Marcelo. It is like Korea vs Gilas in 2017.

With their versatility on defense, TNT has a chance of competing against the Korean and Japanese teams. What might give me a little pause is if Chot keeps using 3-guard lineups. He may have to use Khobuntin a little more, unless if he has a nice wing import.

If they're gonna be a fixture in the finals, they're gonna be an EASL fixture as well.

EASL is about getting the best import. TNT must have Terrence Jones back and 2nd import is Angel Kuoame. this two versatile big men will be devastating.

No Bias. (because I am a ginebra Fan)

But Ginebra is the best matchup for TNT if Ginebra goes back in track. Japeth at least is not as slow footed. Cstand kinda mobile too.

Idk if Ginebra will trade cstand for another mobile big though.

And Coach Tim Cone is the only Pba Coach more successful in Pba than Coach Chot right now

I think Ginebra will have to play small ball now. That, or start Caperal as the other big. CStand or Japeth starts at center (you cannot play both together, except probably in crunchtime), then either Brownlee, Caperal, Aljon, Dillinger, Onwubere, or Arvin starts at the 4.

Ginebra will also have to learn to rotate outside. Cone's really stubborn in packing the paint and giving up the 3-point shot. He already adapted to his roster when they won the All-Filipino last year, why not do it again, this time on defense?

And for God's sake, you need to play the young players. Arvin, Bryan Enriquez, even Holmqvist and Salado.

Can the roster compete in the EASL now? With the guards and probably the bigs, I think so. I'm a little worried about the wings bar Brownlee, though. Ginebra usually puts out a 3-guard lineup, and of the wings, only Aljon and Dillinger get the opportunity these days. They can matchup against taller wings, but they usually play the 4 in small-ball lineups, especially Aljon. Hay, nako. They really need to develop the roster, especially Arvin, Enriquez, and Holmqvist. They can be useful cogs in the EASL. Arvin and Enriquez can shoot, and the latter can defend Asian 1-3 positions. Holmqvist is 6'8" and can provide size at both the 4 and the 5. Ginebra better work on them. Onwubere might be useful here as a small-ball 4. Hope it's not too late to make him a defender who can switch to the perimeter.

Another concern I have is defense. That collapsing might not work against Japanese and Korean teams. They need to work on honest rotations to the perimeter.

what does in-house team mean? team owned by the league?

Not necessarily owned but there is a team called the "Greater China Team" that will participate in EASL next year.

ABL has teams like Philippine Patriots, Alab Pilipinas, Thailand Cobras, and Indonesia Warriors - teams that only exist in ABL. In contrast, EASL, except for that Greater China Team, will have teams coming from different leagues (PBA, KBL, B.League and P.LEAGUE+), thus, catching the spirit of Euroleague.

Kouame's status is different from world import.. Naturalized players can be classified as locals in EASL...

hmm if that's the case TNT could tap Blatche, provided that he is in shape and has no active contract elsewhere

Thanks to the "Greater China" team (this is the HK-based team, right?), a slight resemblance to the Euroleague will be realized as it would have its own "registered" team. Not sure if this is the correct terminology but from what I read about Euroleague, these are the clubs (well-moneyed and very influential) that build up the prestige the Euroleague currently has and thus are automatically entered in to the tournament annually.

So here, Ricky Vargas says that the PBA won't be a token participant: https://sports.inquirer.net/443364/out-to-win-pba-wont-be-token-easl-participant

Sana lang. The money's a big motivation. I mean, who'd want to leave that on the table?

I hope they send CLUBS. May imports naman to bolster any weaknesses. And as Vargas said, they have the talent and the coaching know-how, maybe that's enough to compete.

One thing. Eric Castro says that the PBA will have a "complete season" in 2022. I dunno what that means, but he says that despite that, it won't hinder their participation in the FIBA windows and the EASL.

It means 3 conference format. Hehe

“If the 47th season pushes through by April of 2022, we can still hold three conferences. And like what Chairman Vargas mentioned earlier, we will try to accommodate the tipoff of the EASL by October of 2022,” said Castro. Stu*p*d PBA.

I believe that PBA has a cognitive dissonance here.

Figured as much.

Apologies for the language, but is this a fucking joke? More than the 3-conference format, they plan to start the next season RIGHT AFTER this coming conference?

This is a chance to improve and reform the PBA system, and they look like they're bungling it. Goddamn.

I couldn't agree with you more brother.

These crooked PBA people are obviously thinking of "makabawi" sila for the loses they incurred during the 2 years of this pandemic period that's why they are planning for a 3-conference season next year. Well, good luck to that with this dreaded COVID-Omicron variant coming to the country. PBA badly needs luck to come-up with their traditionally sucking 3-conference format.

As if they're gonna get more gate sales like when the 3-conference format was still in place. If it's not a Ginebra game or an exciting playoff series, the stadium's not full. Plus, if the format further contributes to Gilas' failure in FIBA events, fans will further lose interest, maybe even sponsors.

Hay, nako. LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES.

PBA people are so overwhelmed with GREED to think about learning from their mistakes.

They are like this women in this movie clip (fast forward to 3:00): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGtFGnLbzLI
