Well, I can't blame Leo Austria for not having confidence in his coaching ability. Wala naman talaga syang coaching ability eh. He has just been banking on his super bloated with talent SMB roster to win. Its the overwhelming superiority in talent that made SMB win so many championship under Leo Austria. Austria's coaching had nothing much to do with it.

On Junmar, its obvious that Junmar has a decent medium range jump shot, but he seldomly takes mid-range jumpers. Why? Eh kasi kayang kaya naman ni Junmar kalabawin sa loob eh against local bigs who are about 4 to 5 inches shorter than him. Remember the time when Leo Austria wanted a "mas malapad" & "mas mabigat" na Junmar Fajardo?

What's the source for the 'mas malapad' part?

I do agree with heavy reliance on talent, though.

Narinig (or nabasa) ko rin lang din yan bro dito sa IBN. I think other posters here could comment on that.

Scouting of MERALCO sucks bigtime. Only Hodge and maybe Black are there good picks. I don't find Newsome and Jackson as good draft picks.

Di ba? So many decent players were available and they went with Jackson.. even ordinary fans like us could see those picks would backfire

By the way Pessumal came from Northport.. So it is not also count as well.. He was traded to SMB for AVO...

I remember Pessumal struggled in Globalport. However, I looked at the numbers, and he was OK for a 3 point specialist. He was as good there as he is now with SMB. You're right, he might not count.

So Austria hasn't developed a single player.

Ganyan na talaga laro ni Pessumal since his college days, He didn't improve the way Pogoy improves as of today.. His best performance actually when he was playing for Gilas cadets under Nash Racela before.. I remember he drained 10 3 pt shots in a FIBA game before.. I think it was against Jordan, If i'm not mistaken... Ginawa lang sya "Boy abang sa labas" nila Pido at Austria.. He can be 3 and D guy in other teams.. w/o his sweet shooting of him, He will be already retired as basketball player because aside from his shooting eh he can't do more.. I hope that he was also traded to Terrafirma for CJ Perez trade, baka dun lumabas laro nya...

He only had 1 good shooting game if I remember in FIBA. The rest were meh. But yeah he benefitted a lot from the open looks JF and the other stars of SMB generated.

That's the problem if one is just a pure shooter, with very limited offense off the dribble (can't create his own shots off the dribble) & is not a good defender either. Good that you mentioned Pogoy becoz Pogoy is really someone who can shoot the three, can create shots off the dribble & is a reliable wing defender. In a game where Pogoy's outside shooting falters, he can use his drives & pull-up mid-range jumpers as an alternative, plus he can compensate on his defense. The same could not be said about Pessumal.

Pessumal somewhat reminds me of Alaska's Roel Gomez during the 90's.

Yeah, Pessumal is just like a Kyle Korver. A shooting specialist and offers nothing else. You think he could have developed into at least a 3&D player if Austria (or SMC for that matter) had tried?

I don't know becoz I haven't watched much of his game since he's playing for a team that I hate with a passion:cool:

On a serious note, it doesn't look like he has the makings of a good wing defender. He seem to lack some toughness eh.

Any idea which SMC team is gonna trade for Vic Manuel?

Just heard he and Michael Calisaan got traded to NorthPort for Sean Anthony. Holy crap.

Call me biased, but methinks it's likely Ginebra or SMB, with the uncertainty regarding their bigs.

I know Ginebra has Prince Caperal and Ken Holmqvist, but I don't expect Holmqvist to be used by Cone anytime soon, until his hand is forced.

For me, Phoenix won this trade.. Yes, Manuel + Calisaan for Anthony sounds Northport won on paper but on the needs, Phoenix won it.. Anthony can play SF in occasion than Manuel.. It seems Manuel + Perkins combo experiment didn't work out, As both playing PF position and both can't move to SF position (wing) after that Abueva trade... While I don't know if Manuel can be fit alongside Greg because both are traditional type of big man.. Sisikip lang ang shaded lane if these two will be on the court together... While i'm sure Chua + Perkins + Anthony will be good complimentary in each other than they have on Manuel...

Agreed, Phoenix kinda won this one, provided Sean stays healthy. He fits Phoenix better. He can space the floor and defend better.

You're right, masikip kapag nandyan si Vic. Although his midrange jumper can space the floor, mahilig din siya pumoste like Greg, which is why he kinda didn't fit with Perkins.

As for Calisaan, hope he can develop as a wing in NorthPort. Sayang, 'di ginagamit masyado.

Manuel was kind of a mis-fit with Phoenix last conference. He sure did get his usual numbers in some of their games but overall, his impact wasn't that great (i know, he's not Calvin Abueva). Plus his DNPs due to injuries/illness exacerbated his "fit" issues with Phoenix. Totally, a conference to forget for that guy.

He has actually become ballhog & trigger-happy with Phoenix. He played for Phoenix as if he was just concerned about padding-up his stats.

probably trying to impress the empires for a big payday, I just hope Sean Anthony won't bring his tantrums/drama to Phoenix, watching Cstand, Ferrer and Anthony argue and pad their stats last year was painful to watch

And it's quite a shame, imo. It really now has come down to that when it comes to PBA players: playing great bball to impress and satisfy not the fanbase, but the well-moneyed empires. Nothing wrong fundamentally and what I say might be flawed, but at least be genuine when it comes to helping your team/fanbase succeed.

Sa adamson meron haha

The Sean Anthony - Vic Manuel trade seems like a huge win for Phoenix assuming Anthony stays healthy. Not saying that Northport got the short end of the stick but it didn't seem like Manuel was a good fit at Phoenix. I kinda feel like he'll eventually end up in a SMC team. Probably in Magnolia with his buddy, Calvin.
