Philippine PBA Trades, Releases, Sign-ups, Rumours (vol. III)

They wouldn't even give up any of Tautuaa, TR or Ross or anyone of value. It doesn't look as bad now as SMB has had struggles this conference because of injuries and "coaching" but this is a legit foundation for a dynasty. Especially if they can get any of Orme, Bolick or GS and the Terra guys.

Things are expected to get even worse next year as guys like Bolick, Jaime Malonzo & Slaughter (if he doesn't play in Japan) are expected to land to any SMC teams next season. Then there's the Perraperma guys like Roosevelt Adams, Josh Munzon & James Laput who might also end up in any SMC teams next year or perhaps 2023. One can only imagine what PBA would look like if these things happen. The thing is, even some Ginebra & San Miguel Beer fans/supporters, who are rational enough & understand what spirit of fair play & sportsmanship are all about, are not pleased (to say the least) with what SMC teams have been doing. These rational fans believed that championships are not supposedly being "bought".

To Leo Austria: You hardly won any PBA championship. You've won PBA championships because your SMC big bosses "bought" them for you.

Leo Austria saying he won't give-up any of SMB's big 4 - Junmar, Santos, Lassiter & Cabagnot, dahil nanghihinayang sya to lose any of those players in a trade so yung mga walang kwentang players nalang ang eti trade nya. Its as if CJ Perez isn't that valuable.

Parang sinabi ni Leo Austria na gusto nya ang imported spam pero nanghihinayang syang e barter ang imported corned beef nya, so 555 sardines nalang ang eba barter nya for the imported spam.

Leo just admitted he cant win without his death 5. Thats his comfort zone. The supporting cast has become better with Mo, Cj and Terrence but when push comes to shove he relies on them. Unfortunately the lineup of TNT can matchup with the death 5. Actually the Williams, Erram pairing is a problem for SMB. Theyve faced TNT before with each of them but it is the first time theyve faced them together in the playoffs. Heruela and Marcelo are good players. I think PHX was just saving money when they dumped them. And Mikey Williams is a super rookie. Arguably this is the best TNT team SMB has faced in the JF era. Parks was only good for one good series until his body broke down.

I think SMB has some struggles in this Philippine Cup becoz CJ Perez hasn't really assimilated with Leo Austria's system which is "your turn, my turn" system:cool:

Seriously speaking, I think SMB is expected to get better as Perez would start to jell better with his teammates & gets more & more familiar with the team's system.

It's not the buying per se, it's how they're bought is the problem.

And personally, Ginebra has a deep team. How about just rely on that depth instead of trading for stars? Sayang ang lalim, e.

There's a rumor that Perez might potentially go to Japan, as far as I remember. It's the last year in his contract too.

Extension with SMB is a possibility, however. SMC will do everything to keep their stars (while at their peak, anyway).

Coach Tim Cone is not known for utilizing his bench that well. He's no coach Yeng Guiao in that aspect. Notice how guys like Caperal & Arvin Tolentino are under utilized. Nagagamit lang si Caperal during those times when either Greg or Japeth was injured but when those 2 are healthy, Caperal rot in the bench.

Arvin's under-utilized? He's not being utilized AT ALL this season. I could say the same for Caperal when two of Greg, Japeth, and Dave Marcelo were on the team.

Especially if JF can't regain his form. We might see a Mo-Barney trade. Or eff that. Whoever is their end of bench guy for GS. That's how they do business anyway.

Replace Austria with a more competent coach and it's a guaranteed title for SMB every conference na barring injuries. They are actually underachieving..

I was just trying to be polite bro that's why I said underutilized

And the rise of Kib Montalbo.. They easily found Trollano's replacement w/ Kib.. Hard nose defender and can score in some bunches.. Actually Ryan Reyes can retire now because he already have his replacement..

Ryan Reyes can actually try his luck in FilBasket or T1 League as an Asian import.

That is perhaps the reason why SMC big bosses are trying to load as much talent as possible kasi kailangan overwhelming yung advantage sa talent & depth ng SMB over other teams to ensure success. Kasi kung sa coaching aspect lang, SMB will not have any edge over most PBA teams.

Put Leo Austria on a team like Alaska or NLEX, I'm sure that team will suck.

Remove Cabagnot at starting 5 and put Perez as starter, Cabagnot's era is gone already... Same with Arwind.. But the thing is they don't have a legit 4 spot to replace Arwind.. Expect SMB to harvest either Malonzo or either Terrafirma's pick / Northport's pick to get a legit 4 spot guy.. Baltazar will be that guy for SMB but he will be MVP bound, as he will likely to be next year's top pick by Blackwater elite...

SMB has a good starting PF in Mo Tautuaa. That presents a size mismatch, and I don't think that lineup can be punished enough by any team, given that they can't consistently make threes to break their zone or take advantage of Mo or June Mar' defense.

Lane is kinda clogged when Mo and June Mar play together at the same time. The JuneMar Mo tandem also struggles on D when faced with smaller but more mobile bigmen who don't shy away from the paint.

Thing is, they'll be well-hidden with a zone on defense. Those mobile bigs might be dissuaded from attacking the paint unless they move well without the ball and time their cuts.

For offense naman, oo nga, Mo and June Mar like to bully their way inside, but at least Mo can space the floor a little with a 3-point shot.

As of right now, that lineup is unbeatable. It will take great defensive bigs to contain the two of them, while offensively, your zone-busting weapons have to be consistent and consistently-used.

Meralco should fire Norman Black.. Sorry for this franchise.. They need a new coach.. Black can't give Meralco results that the franchise wants...It's time to put Jong Uichico or maybe hire a foreign coach to elevate this franchise into greater success...

I agree with this. Black built his reputation winning the Grandslam for a star studded SMB team.

MVP group has ton of good coaches.. Black can be a assistant of coach Tab at Gilas or go back at Ateneo then Tab will be full time coach for Gilas.. Black's coaching in the PBA already checkmate by either CTC or Coach Chito V., Then Meralco should find a real franchise player to elevate their team into greater heights.. Newsome is not a go to guy material, neither Belo or Maliksi.. They have a mistake by snubbing Romeo before after TNT wants to put him to Meralco.. Romeo can lead this team.. Now, Meralco should find a guy that can save them at crunchtime, a guy who can score any given day.. possible targets are Wright, Bolick or even Munzon.. They have trade assets to get a scorer..

Black's a good defensive coach, and MERALCO has good defensive players. They rotate well on defense. I think pwede silang pang-FIBA pagdating sa defensive system.

However, Black's lacking in offensive creativity, and MERALCO lacks good shot creators and scorers. MERALCO will need to get some firepower, since that was basically the only difference between them and Magnolia the past series. They basically had no equivalent to Lee-Sangalang-Abueva.

Actually, mas kailangan ng SMB ang wing. Kasi, eto. Their 3 position is occupied by shooting guards. Marcio, Pessumal, now Perez. That's basically a three-guard lineup. But if that's the best lineup in the PBA, go for it.

As for Malonzo, that actually solves SMB's need at both forward positions, since he's tall enough to play 4, and mobile enough to play 3. Plus, they can get another wing in import conferences, which, when combined with Malonzo, will provide them with the versatility to play big or small ajd not give up too much size in the process.

I guess it's time for PBA and lesser pro leagues to genuinely open up to PHL talents under 21. Aside from having a lot if potential stars in that age group, i don't think this current overseas recruitment won't stop any time soon. So bago pa sila maunahan ng mga leagues outside PHL, it's better to make way for those talented kids sooner rather than later.

Yeah, especially given that the collegiate leagues are kinda uncertain. Young talents should be able to displace players who can't play at a certain level.

MGR's stint with SMB was such a waste. He looked confident and effective as a point forward on most of TF's games this conference.

This might also encourage college players, specially those with high potentials, to shorten their college basketball stints. Perhaps guys like Tamayo, Quiambao, Cholo Anonuevo, RJ Abarrientos would play college basketball for only 2 to 3 yrs before turning pro.

BTW, I expect some of these players to get offers from B-league teams in a year or 2 from now.

I think this would be a good development. I'm already tired of seeing some 24 to 25 yrs old players still playing collegiate basketball. It would be good to see naman some 20, 21, 22 year old players climbing to the pro ranks.

I honestly believe that it would be better for our amateur players to turn pro now as the 2 year layoff from basketball is really bad for their development. We're gonna be stuck with 27 year old college players if our collegiate leagues don't open up soon
