Philippine PBA Trades, Releases, Sign-ups, Rumours (vol. III)

are other leagues scared of losing their players to foreign leagues/nba? i dont see real madrid, fc barcelona and other euro teams and their respective leagues make a fuzz when the likes of dirk, kukoc, manu, tony, luka etc went to the nba same with the CBA (provided that you dont do a wang zhizhi)

it seems that only the PBA makes a big deal about this (from the rumored/urban legend of johnny a-nba, jayson castro-singapore slingers, the draft dodging rule, and now kiefer) Tab is right, PBA is too insular

They maybe afraid because it will force them to pay more.. heck smc can pay more, mvp teams can pay more but what about the other teams the so called independent ones

Exactly. For the farm teams and maybe some independent teams, buyouts could (theoretically) be a good move to increase their spending power.

Instead of selling players to SMC they should just send them to the highest bidder.. now I can see why they don't like it. It might cause problems to the mother teams. They can't buy their way into a championship anymore

Well, as for the Euro teams, they have a youth system to replace the players they sold to the NBA. And they have top-notch youth systems. They can produce talented players at will. Helps if you're two of the world's richest sports organizations, as with Real and Barça (although Barça's in massive debt right now, forcing their football team to go to youth a little more). Pero, still, the PBA has the draft.

Ayun, SMC can't just buy their way into championships when their farm teams can just sell their talents to the B.League, which may offer more compensation. They'll have competitors in spending power as well.

Imbes na gayahin ng PBA yung ginagawa ng NBL, CBA at B-League eh nagpapaiwan sila.. If i were PBA eh i will lure some of the best talents in SEA region.. kahit dyan lang.. Anlaki ng potential market sa SEA region eh.. They only focus PHL market eh even Pinoys are bored already in that league.. Baka magsibalikan mga fans if they expand their league atleast in ASEAN region...

Yeah, I agree which is why I said this:

I think allowing our SEA neighbors to play in the PBA can be good for business and probably keep (and even boost) the quality of Philippine basketball. In fact, it can be a form of soft power in the region. I actually believe that the PBA can become a soft power arm of the Philippines if it puts effort into it.

"We're the best league in SEA, and the best players from the region play with us." This message asserts our dominance in the region and establishes the PBA as the premier basketball league not only in the Philippines, but also in SEA. It also gives us some quality control, and also scouting on the strengths and weaknesses of the likes of Jakrawan, Prastawa, maybe Jawato, Dierker, and Lamb.

In short, attracting SEA stars is a form of market expansion and quality control.

Donaire just beat guys below his real weight class thats why he was called as midget killer, but he did try to fight in featherweight which is I laud

This is kinda funny. Every weight class is fought evenly according to weight limit regardless of a boxer's height.

what if nlex release keifer from his contract? the rule said he must honor his nlex contract. i wonder if its a workaround.

Even if NLEX released Kiefer, he is still under the PBA by virtue of UPC.

This is actually bad for the league to be honest. They might give a stern warning to those under their league. However, this will make an impression to those collegiate players aspiring to play overseas that once you sign a contract to the PBA, you can't just make an exit that easy. Parang Hotel California lang ang PBA.

What's the implication then? These young players might not go to the PBA draft just yet. They might explore opportunities overseas before joining the PBA. This will result into weak draft classes.

Is there a way to make the PBA a stranger to the contract, as in the only parties would be the player and the team? The way I see it, UPC makes the PBA a party to the contract.

Hopefully the PBA includes buyout clauses for both the team contract and the UPC.

The problem with PBA kasi is that member-teams, from the looks of it, are not separate and distinct from that of the league. The same can be said to PBA in relation to its member-teams.

I dont think there is actually.

Nba is not a stranger to the contract of teams and players.

Only difference is players have union(lead by Cp3). And their union is very powerful actually. As players really protecting each other rights.
Just like yung nagsalita si Draymomd about how Pistons are mistreating Drummond. It immediately force pistons to trade drummond.

Funny how the PBA said that they considered a buyout pero sabi nila masyado raw maselan gawin ngayon, LOL don't us, so kinonsider nyo pala, so it's possible na sa mga sunod na PBA contracts magkaron na ng buyout clause, kinonsider nyo pala eh panghawakan nyo ngayon, basta ito lang pawisan na ang mga balls nyo ngayon, it's just the beginning for you PBA, thanks to Kief. Sakit ulo nyo ngayon.

They're short on funds. Why would they not consider buyouts? It doesn't make sense. Their business, like all businesses, are going down, and they need additional cash. Pati sa short-term, engot.

Hmmm.

Baka nagpapadagdag pa under the table.

Trans: Not enough money paid yet. Lol

But you just need to be in the same eight with your opponent the day before the fight

I know, bro. Weigh in a day before the fight. It is still not correct to call Donaire a midget killer. Because both fighters' team are aware of what to do to keep their fighter's weight within limit without affecting its strength.

Based from Joe Devance's vlog. Parks is already here in the PH. Or did he leave ba talaga to take cake of his sick mother. Wonder what his next move will be. Tahimik ng camp niya lately.

As I said in another thread, the PBA is a clique, not a business. They're too dumb to not attract talented players from other ASEAN nations in order to grow their market/audience.

Look at the B.League, they are starting to tap into Filipino talent because this also gives them the chance to expand their market.

Feeling kasi ng PBA, Louis Vuitton or Lamborghini sila ng basketball, eh low-cost motorcycle sila ng basketball. Lol

that statement is true, in the 80s to mid 90s, and they (the board) are still stuck in the glory years of PBA, boy we are left behind by the CBA, they are still stuck in the mentality that the PBA is the 2nd oldest pro league in the world

I know, sorry also on that statement about Nonito, but his dedication and taking care of his body, he made taht supposedly disadvantage as his strength(bone structure)..

Let talk reality and finance. PBA gets 100k views in facebook. Who and what country will give PBA an additional 50K viewership to reach critical mass if they do Asian Quota. I really want to known. Unlike B.league, thier Final Game 3 didn't reach 10K while the last game of Thirdy has 61K views. That is the difference.

I have no problem with Asia Quota but it doesn't make any business sense for PBA right now. Maybe in 10 yrs its will be.

i hope TnT will come into terms with parks so that the sign and trade can happen.

Tapping Asian players would add excitement and intrigue to the league which will attract local viewers. Forget about the foreign viewership. There is no other Asian basketball country like the Philippines where fans would follow their stars playing overseas.
You can get that 50k viewership locally. Nagsasawa na mga pinoy sa pba being stagnant plus the unpopular rules instituted by the board. Masyado mataas ang tingin sa sariling liga di naman makapag produce ng kahit isang nba player mula nun 1975.

How do we know it will attract significant local viewership. How many were attracted when PBA did this before?

The PBA does not really get money from streaming on Facebook and 50K views isn't impressive given that out population is 110M +-. 50k is 0.000045%

Now, if the PBA tries to expand outside the Philippines, that could translate to selling broadcasting rights which translates to $$$
