Well DLSU and UP did this, but lose to San Beda in PCCL, that has only handly mostly of UAAP team B players!!! Do you mean SBU is considered 2nd best college team today (Letran beat them in NCAA but i don't think it will repeat that)

Maybe I'm a fanboy but I'm picking San Beda over any other collegiate team except Ateneo. It just feels like they had the advantage in player development and coaching even with a not so strong lineup in paper. IMO Letran got the jump on them with the sudden inclusion of ghe super friends and a little bit of luck and officiating in the finals. Pre super friends Letran was a different team which SBU defeated twice with little difficulty. And it went down to the last shot..

We're not determining who is top tier talent , or who can make an impact in the PBA (star etc) , and no one said world class. and PBA isn't/

I simply said if i had to pick one program where players will come from for the 2023 (not now) , my opinion is Ateneo. here are the players from Tab's Ateneo team i would consider , if it was limited to one team only

Kouame, Go
Navarro, Lopez
Dwight , Koon
Thirdy, Dave
Matt, SJ , just fill in the gaps with the rest

it's chemistry not talent alone , that we're banking on here.

Why are u taking s about PBA players playing overseas? of course they can., the only topic here is where is the level of the PBA compared to other leagues , of course where not talking about locals only , and of course the imports in other leagues increases the level of the normal regular competion ( not just import conference lang) , and sinagot naman ng mga iba that in terms of the PBA league level for regular games. they are behind the Asian leagues that use multiple imports all the time. we're not comparing who are better locals here. that is why the UAAP becomes competitive , kasi kasama import to improve the level..

C- Geo Chiu
PG- Jordan Perez ;)

No naman.. realistically siguro naman they can get hugot Kai and Clarkson tapos , now that instantly makes the team world class

not enough shooting at d sg position (unless clarkson comes).

d thing about ateneo is that they have both talent, system, and training (sana all).

it is not like they have 2nd-tier and 3rd-tier talent who become successful because of d system.

they also go after top talent available, local and abroad. then they put the talent in a system.

that is why guys like go and black who have sub-par numbers in their last 2 seasons in ateneo, basically put all-star level numbers in their dleague teams.

d same can be said of matt nieto. navarro. and even kouame. these guys can flat out do more in a different system (especially with less talent).

even thirdy has "ordinary" numbers and that is why he never won an mvp in spite of being d king eagle for 3 years. he just up his game during final four and finals when it was needed.

Any recruit that uaap teams have couped are matched by ateneo, they matched mbala with someone who has size and decent potential kouame, they matched up with kobe with their own us ncaa division 1 mainstay in ramos.. as if this also the same team tht cut half of its rister includkng cj perez and aarkn black dahil sa sobrang greedy este loaded ng line up..

So in local terms huwag kami ha.. (kouame if still as an fsa should llayed his last season in 2020 kaso...

Are we still buying " Best Players in the Philippines are still in the Pba" ? ( OFC with an exception on guys like JC, Kai and maybe AJ)

I still believe so.

THE Ideal Scenario in an ideal world is to combined best players from pba collegiate, and international Based in one pool. With 1 year long preperation. BUT WE ALL KNOW THIS IS A PIPE DREAM.

My take on pba players still do not change. They are still welcome to gilas in my eyes. But thet should be lend in the right time.

Just my opinion

no team in the world does this tayo lang and led to its dissapointments..But some teams prepare for 4 to 8 years.. get my point?

1994 Philippine NT > than 2002 nt

this is debatable. what's factual is that both were disappointments (4th place).

if u look at it in terms of cost-benefit, then indeed bigger loss in 2002.

Nope given man power and lack of international quality big men (yup the best 5 we had was an amateur), Johnny A literally the only one pg..The talent level of the 2002 team is good but somehow succumb to host koreans (ok own hosting et. al)

d 1994's defense was very good. if that team had paras and magsanoc instead of polistico/teng and d injured calma, it would have been a sure bronze with a decent chance for silver.

d 2002's had a more expensive and comprehensive preparation but losing seigle very close to the actual tournament was a huge blow. but still silver at most even if seigle played.

Will seigle play 4? If he played four he will be killed by kim joo sung at the post and if 3 it will limit our spacing...

The Asi Menk Cariaso Dondon and racela was our best shot against koreans in a close..the inability of Jong to play loose in the early goings to make kenneth duremdes, (and Danny S if he was healthy) explode cost us the game..leeway is the name of the game against korea..

It would be a difficult task to beat that Korean team at Busan a lot of golden gen guys are out there, mas better pa yan sa 2014 gold medal team nila..

before his injury, he was actually playing as 2. with cariaso as starting 3.

yeah, d koreans play well during asiad in their homecourt for some reason (but not in abc/fiba). when they beat china in semis and won d title in 1997, it was in saudi arabia i think.

moon kyung eun was a 2.. so its matchup problem as I do think they will just zone us to limit danny posting up..

They play well in abc.. they are finalist in 1999 and 2003 (that was a rematch and Korea was a better team that time with arrival of nba prospect Ha)

Shows you Asian big men are at best during their teen/early years, Ha was very serviceable and nba prospect like that time.. in 2007, it was already a slow ha that was detrimental to them, when seo jang hoon retired 2006-2009 era was bad for them until Eric Sandrin/tj moon came..

danny plays sg then mainly becos he was a better long-range shooter than cariaso.

1999 and 2003 was in japan and china respectively. they were runner-up in almost all abc prior to d emergence of d arab teams.

i am referring to d fact that they were not winning abc even if they were d host, but in asiad, it seems like it was always a destiny.

d 2003 team could have upset china if seo was there.

well, korea alwayse use young players, especially in d center position. seo was just a rookie in college when he debuted as their starting center in 1994.

Well we used marlou since 1991, he was young back then..Marlou Aquino is a very skilled
big man, Seo jang hoon was just a league above everyone else (yeah we all knew yao Ming is nba caliber but Seo was the lone tier 2)
When was the last time Korea hosted Fiba Asia?, I think sinoball already pointed the lack of interest or shall I say (China's move) to pry FIBA Asia tournaments away from them especially during Olympic years..In 1987, they hosted the Olympics and still the concept of Korean absketball league is at infancy so the priority to win was small..

Centers have mileage, Seo was Fajardoing the KBL in 2003-2007, and Seo was already retired in nt past 2006. Seo jang hoon was the guy we envision Junamr Fajardo to be, not I am saying that he will be a variety show host/comedian after his career is done

korea last hosted it in 1995 (silver behind a rather soft china).

Seo was a mean motherfukcer, he once threw the ball to the face of the already butt-fallen Chinese center Shan Tao ( China's resident center before Wang Zhizhi) in the gold medal match of the 1994 Hiroshima Asian Games. At 6'10, with mean mug, he is a scary sight..the Chinese didnt even retaliate. Well China was already leading by 20 by then, but still...

All participants in the regular competition including foreign players (imports) make up the level of competition. I'm not famillar with Korea and iran.. Aren't Korean imports (2 ? ) not div 1 players or other major league? and if so, does each PBA team in most of it's games , which is all Fiilipiono have 2 div 1 players each per team ?
Just like us they only have one import at a time. They might have 5 local D1 players at most. So most of the time we have more D1 players playing.
