Philippine PBA Trades, Releases, Sign-ups, Rumours (vol. III)

P612,000/a month is way higher than the max rookie salary in PBA. Even higher than the max for veterans in PBA. Take note, this just a MINIMUM ROOKIE contract. Thirdy is no longer a rookie in BLG next season. He might have received more and I believe, even with under the table bonuses, BLG's salary is way higher.

Per level of competition, BLG is good naman. Thirdy is always against the opposing teams' 2 or 3 position players, who are usually imports or national team mainstays. So Thirdy's ability to defend will always be tested here.

Thirdy is not being paid as a Rookie in the B-League. He is being paid as an Import. As per this article

https://www.josecolorado.com/blog/japan-basketball-league-salaries

"But it gets juicer because Ravena’s agent confirmed to The Manila Times that his client would be “compensated as an import,” likely jumping his salary into the $200K - $400K/per year range."

The lowest import salary would be $200k which is 9.59m PHP per year and that's not counting whatever endorsement that comes for him while in Japan. His popularity is still rising.

plus he has endorsements. gatsby and some watch

i think the superstars could get a competitive offer from the empires, not to mention financial stability, whereas, a superstar could earn larger in a yearly basis but until when?

nevertheless, the PBA should be the final option for the Kais and Thirdys of the world

Regardless, my point is the minimum salary for a rookie is way higher than those offered in the PBA, even the latter's max salary. How much more if you are an import and entering into 2nd playing year in BLG?

really? did they ask kai for a letter before joining NBL?

Nope. Di pa eligible si Kai sa pba draft. (21 yrs old minimum)

So, the pba dodge rule doesnt apply to him YET. .haha.

We never know, if Kai is 21, Pba may ask him to write a letter. HAHHAHAH

Agreed. Salary earnings in the B-League is higher overall compared to the PBA. Imagine this, If the highest paid player in the PBA, Junmar Fajardo is rumored earning 1.5M monthly from SMB. The highest paid player in the B-League, Yuki Togashi is earning $1M per year. That's around almost P4M monthly converted to pesos. More than double Junmar's. Not to mention there's already fan attendance in Japan while the PBA is still having a hard time starting its season.

Our local players should take a good hard look overseas. Especially our college players. Almost 2 years nang nakatengga mga yan. A lot of time developing wasted.

its good for thirdy. he is really a good marketing tool for neo phoenix. he has good market value. he needs to improve his performance hope no more injury for him.

Meralco had their first RT PCR test on May 7 & their second earlier this afternoon. They are prepared to leave for Ilocos Norte on Sat. for a 10-day training camp, but can also practice at the Meralco Gym if MM gets upgraded to GCQ.

If the Ilocos Norte camp pushes thru, the Bolts will practice in a bubble setup at the Laoag Centennial Arena & will stay at the Fort Ilocandia Resort & Hotel. Team manager Paolo Trillo says even if MM falls under GCQ on the 15th, they can still opt to leave for Ilocos Norte.

Paolo Trillo: There are different pros and cons to staying and going, but whatever it is, we’re prepared to do either one, and hopefully, we can start on the 15th. We wanted to maximize everyday & start right on the 15th.

PBA thinks that they are still the prime league in Asia. Wake up dudes, you are not even a top 5 Asian league right now - both in salary and competition.

1. CBA
2. ANBL
3. BLG
4. KBL
5. ISL
6. LBL
7. PBA

Is ISL the Israeli League? If that's the case, I think it's not in Asia, but in Europe (well, when it comes to FIBA zone).

Still, even then, your point on the PBA stands. Not even top 5. And sometimes, player development is really stunted here.

the draft dodging rule is somehow discriminatory against homegrown talents, While Fil-Foreigners such as the likes of Pringle, CStan, Mikey Williams etc. spent much of their primes in foreign leagues without much fanfare or consequence relative to the PBA, their homegrown counterpart has to deal with this BS. heck these Fil-Foreigners ended up in the PBA since they no longer have that much offers from commercial leagues. So i guess they should start requiring Fil-Foreigners to send their letter explaining why they are not joining their draft class.

Best compromise would be just hold the rights of the player until he decides to play in the PBA.

Christian Hermoso, Stanley Pringle, Scuba Holt, Mikh McKinney, DJ Fenner, Mikey Williams, Sedrick Barefield, Ron Harper Jr. to play first in PBA D-League for 2 conferences before they can enter PBA after their college careers?? :o:p

forgot about the D League requirement, but kinda funny if highly touted prospects like Sage Tolentino, Kameka Hepa, Ron Harper JR, Remy martin will be required to suit up to the d league before being drafter. for the sake of their careers I hope they enter the PBA when they are 30+ like Maurice Shaw (did he even played in the PBA D League? edit, he's above 27 he's exempted from this)

ISL i think is Iranian Super League

Serious discussion, how do you guys determine how competitive a league is against another. Like B.League vs PBA, both Japan National team and B.League teams have lost to Philippines team and PBA teams several times in the past decades.

PBA ballclubs with an import are better than B-League ballclubs with an asian import and world import.. :o

The discussion is not limited to head to head competition, in fact that may actually be a misleading metric. What one should be looking more at in the context of why Filipinos are playing overseas , is the competitive level and style they will be exposed to by playing in the league. There is a reason why Kai Sotto playing in the Australian NBL is considered very good exposure compared to playing in the PBA, (where more than 2/3 of the games are played without a big import, and with a height limit ) .

Every one here knows NBL is a higher league than any Asian League. The question is among Asian Leagues. Even Japanese players and Julio Llamas wants to play in other leagues.

I am asking criteria and not in general terms. Rank criteria according to the effect in Asian Leagues competitiveness.

Seriously, do you believe that? It's easy to rank but to justify it thats what makes a good discussion.

Well the B-league gives the opportunity for a 7 footer to play against multiple players of that same size , additionally a 6' 5 player may get the opportunity to play as a wing rather than having to play as a big in an All Filipino or 6' 5 import conference

Again does this make them a more competitive league. How about the talent level of locals aren't they also criteria.
