Philippine PBA Trades, Releases, Sign-ups, Rumours (vol. III)

  • Thread starter Thread starter rikhardur2
  • Start date Start date
Ideally, this should be the timeline for adjustment for a new format. The PBA needs a 3 or 4-game gameday to make this possible. The PBA should use this to adjust for the long-term.

March 14, 2021: Draft
April 9-first week of June 2021: Transition conference (preferably with imports; we also need time to prepare for the OQT and 2021 FIBA Asia Cup)
June 29-July 4: Belgrade OQT
August 17-29 2021: FIBA Asia Cup
2nd week of September-2nd week of November 2021: start of PBA season (EASL concurrent from October onwards)
November 22-30 2021: FIBA WC 1st window
December 2021-2nd week of February 2022: PBA season (EASL concurrent until Feb)
February 21-March 1, 2022: FIBA WC 2nd window
2nd week of March-2nd week of June 2022: end of PBA season
June 27-July 5, 2022: FIBA WC 3rd window
2nd week of July 2022: Draft

Hopefully, the PBA can schedule the season according to this. And I really hope the PBA either adopts a full-season format with imports or at least a two-conference season.

JUST IN: The PBA 3X3 tournament has gained approval from the PBA board, as per tournament chairman Dickie Bachmann. It will have a three-conference format per season, just like the normal PBA competition. |

The PBA 3X3 will be played, if in a non-bubble environment, across five one-day legs plus one Grand Finals per conference. If a bubble's needed then it'll be three two-day legs plus one two-day Grand Finals. The bubble will be 13 days in total. |

The PBA already has potential venues for the games but it'll still need approval from the IATF. |

This means that the PBA is still not on the same page with Mascarinas and Chooks to Go, actually this is good news as this will provide additional employment but this might further divide the very political climate of Philippine basketball

Mahirap yan. Hindi feasible especially with the quarantine stuff. Teams should get imports that will contribute right away or that fits their system. or else they will stick with them in the long run.

Easy for teams with resident imports, like Ginebra and MERALCO (but I doubt they'll get Durham). Why not get ex-FSA's here?

Eto ang mahirap sa 3-conference format natin. Imports are not permanent players.

To address the changing of imports after a couple of bad results, PBA should make it a 3-import-per-team rotation but only 2 can play in each game. I think most of the time, losses are a result of poor coaching and not import underperformance. Maybe the rotation setup could help solve those problems for some teams. As for the cost, maybe set a separate salary cap for the April to July conference, say PHP 5M or lower. That would be an average of 555K/month/import, should teams find world imports willing to take that kind of offer. Teams can also play with their budget to accommodate a "super" import with the other 2 on the level of FSAs. Having 2 FSAs with outstanding physical attrubutes and athleticism is still an upgrade for most teams.

they could slide Perkins at the 3 but that would be counter productive to Coach Topex's system. Abueva and Perkins worked because both are versatile, while Manuel is your traditional 4 who doesn't fit the modern game (unless he plays the 5). Seems like a bad roster fit for Phx, unless Vic comes off the bench to back up Chua

Well, Topex said that Manuel wants to expand his game to include a 3-ball like Justin Chua did. Thing is, Vic is already what, 33, 34? If he can make himself fit alongside Perkins, he should do it ASAP, since he's already racing against time.

SELDOM-USED PBA players and displaced cagers could soon find a home with the staging of the PBA 3x3 this year.

The PBA recently approved the staging of the 3x3 league this year which will serve as a separate tournament for the regular 5-on-5 game. All 12 PBA teams are set to join the 3x3 league, a three-conference season that will have five legs and one grand final each.

Tournament chairman Dickie Bachmann said a draft will not be staged for the PBA 3x3 league, which means teams can acquire the player of their choice directly from the free agent and undrafted talent pool.

“We are preparing the memo now which is for the players, they can go direct hire,” said Bachmann. “They can also go to the draft and ‘yung mga hindi nakuha sa 5-on-5, puwede rin kunin ‘yun. And since Fiba format is lenient in eligibility, passport lang. ‘Yung mga ibang Fil-Ams, puwede. They can also talk to the Fil-Ams.”

The PBA 3x3 league comes at a time when 97 players applied for the coming PBA draft set on March 14. Although considered as one of the deepest draft pool in history, several players are also expected to be left unsigned.

Bachmann said PBA teams also have an option to relegate their players in their 3x3 squads on the condition that they will only return to 5-on-5 once the 3x3 conference ends.

“There is an option that says ‘yung mga practice players, 14th to 15th player, kung hindi gagamitin sa 5-on-5, puwedeng pumunta muna sa 3x3, gain exposure, gain confidence, and they can only go up to 5-on-5 after the 3x3 conference,” said Bachmann.

“Let’s say may na-injured sa 5-on-5, players in the 3x3 can only go up pagkatapos ng conference ng 3x3. Hindi puwedeng palipat lipat,” he added.

The Alaska team governor, tasked to oversee the 3x3 tournament, said the new league also offers job security to the players, who will also be vying for prize money in each legs similar to that of the Fiba 3x3 tournaments overseas.

“We will also protect the players. We allowed them to give a yearly or 10-month contract,” said Bachmann.

With the board approval, the PBA becomes the second professional 3x3 league in the Philippines after the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3.

Backmann is a smart guy. PBA 3x3 will most likely have better policies than the PBA itself with him as tournament chair.

Mascarinas and the PBA will now be in a tag of war for 3x3 players soon,

are they on good terms already? ideally that's the best scenario, but knowing SMC, they'll just block this

looking at it from pba’s perspective, there wont be any good reason to partner with ctg. They will just be sharing the revenue. Pba’s mindset is that they have the bigger budget hence they can get the better players, they have experienced management and they already have the brands and the fanbase. CTG is not bringing anything new to the table.

The PBA is looking to have an 18 team(The 12 regular PBA teams, 6 guest teams) 3x3 league, Won't be surprise if some Chooks to Go Pilipinas 3x3 League teams will get an invite to join ..One of the teams rumored to join us Family's Brand Sardines Zamboanga.. the Chooks to Go Calamba Bubble champions

https://tiebreakertimes.com.ph/tbt/pba-3x3-to-have-three-conference-18-team-format/202249

According to PBA 3×3 Dickie Bachmann, the league is looking at eighteen teams to join the standalone tournament — including 12 from the current PBA ball clubs. Among the other teams rumored to join is Family’s Brand Sardines.

Hmm like i said, curious how CTG will react to all this developments.

they'll probably invest more funds in the MPBL out of spite (they are currently the main sponsor of MPBL), though i doubt that league will still be around the elections, heck it may fold sooner
