Overrated..., the ones who spend millions in marketing not on taxes.. they just pay somebody to hype their shows up and believe me only UAAP are the ones making money and not ABS..

The abs cbn machinery isnt marketing, its just they are the largest network in the Philippines back then..

Who has the most underrated marketing startegists in the pba? SMC.. they have fans who bash the Magnolia, Ginebra or SMB to death.. Manok constant champions of Bora Cup, from Barney serye up until to No Junmar big problem lines.. all SMC marketing's doing..even the Paliga Ni Boss Alfrancis as Chualay has embraced the evil authority in the pba..

Overrated??? How come a casual Pinoy basketball or volleyball fan who does not even finished High School ay nakiki Ateneo OBF,Animo La Salle, UP Fight at Go Uste kung di magaling an marketing team ng ABS?

No, whatever they earn, nagastos lang nila sa so called marketing.outside ateneo la salle they didnt outrate even ncaa in aktv. And we know even in untv ,ateneo and la salle have their following and somehow oiut of the blue, UP was able to dethrone them as the most popular team in uaap game in and game out (outside atene-la salle) although the battle of katipunan was also solid in marketing standpoint..


Solar can market college basketball and pba more than abs, ang problema limited funds ng solar and cant live in break even income so bibigay sila abs.. they can thru tax evasion joke

Thats what influence/power can do, why? san pupupulutin ang abs shows when they stations are gone.. UAAP is a mega manila thing and almost all the audience who watch uaap have cables subscription in their television/tv plus and can reach tv 5, anong special na ginagawa ng abs? wala? Who can give advertisers a discounted rate to have their commercial on their other tv shows? its abs cbn.. Bigyan mo lang yun tv5 o solar ng power/logistics at machinery like abs can they sure will get as many advertisers that they want..

Solar where this close on getting that power in sports ginawa ng abs, they just outbid solar for nba rights up until di nila makayanan yun broadcast rights ng nba and resort to give the free tv rights sa abs. This isn't marketing 101, its killing your competition..

I think meralco was a perfectly built team now that they get rid of amer.. perfectly built team to push ginebra to the limit or Is ay their full potential and win against them..If they cannot find a local durham, maybe a big guy version of anjo caram just to limit the damage of smc's can give to them..

I get depth, because they had the shallowest bench among playoff teams (which I think, along with TNT's exertion of effort, led to players going down). Rebounding, well, wouldn't hurt too. They were 2nd-to-last in DRB%, with 66.7%. They were great on the offensive glass, though, getting 29% of available offensive rebounding opportunities, and they placed fourth.

If TNT played their cards right with the players they have, they would win a couple of championships against the SMC teams. As of now, both SMB and Ginebra are more cohesive units.

i guess you've been reading An Anarchy of Families, State and Family in the Philippines, which has a good chapter on the rise of the Lopez clan from Ilo-ilo hacinderos to political lords (Fernando Lopez was a 2 time VP, under Quirino and Marcos) to govt. contractors and eventually telecom giants which they used to make politicians (from kiko pangilinan, noli de castro, loren legarda, noynoy aquino et.l). SORRY FOR THE OT

I hated it when ABS bought the NBA rights and screwed Solar Entertainment by not paying (the sky cable deal), that effectively crippled Solar corporation.

Back to the topic: without ABS CBN in the way, the PBA should capitalize on this, TV5 should improve their reach,
just realized that RSA through CNN Philippines has entered the broadcast media world, hopefully in due time SMC develops channel 9 so it could also carry sports programs. I think for long TV5 is content in being no. 3 for a long time,

In the 219 Governor's Cup, Only Almazan averaged double figures among locals, with the next leading local scorer Malliksi only avereging 6 pts while import Durnman almost averaged 30 pts

Actually, Newsome and Amer also averaged double figures in that Governors' Cup as well. Thing is, they're not scoring nearly enough to be considered a local No. 1 option.

Yeah, let's see if Belo can be that leading scorer. He's been healthy for the past two seasons, let's see if he can explode like he did earlier in his rookie season.

Mukhang di ka yata lumalabas sa lungga mo sir. I've been assigned all over the country, even people in Tawi-Tawi watched UAAP. My troops came from different regions may Ilokano, Ilonggo, Bicolano, at kahit Muslim nanood ng UAAP. So yung mga Boom Gonzales, Gretchen Ho, Tina marasiga at iba pang sumukat sa UAAP influencers na sila bago pumasok sa UAAP? You should appreciate what ABS-CBN have done to the Sport may pumapansin ba sa Volleyball nung di pa na broadcast sa S&A? Di porket DDS at kapuso ka puro hate ka nalang.

College basketball has a captured audience so to speak and its selling proposition is anchored on school pride which easily sells, what ABS CBN did was to just add "glamour and glitz" to the UAAP but in actuality the TV ratings for UAAP and NCAA basketball games aren't that far apart

Sadly its not clear what the PBA's selling proposition is right now

Ginebra is still very popular. Actually being a fan of UAAP basketball probably speaks to ones bougieness to be honest. ABS CBN always had english speaking commentators and always hyped bougie schools like Ateneo/La Salle.

Even with Kiefer in the PBA, the most popular pinoy player is very much still Abueva once Yap's game faded.

Guys like Teng and Ravena lost their fan base after moving to the PBA. Even Tiu.

and that's why the PBA can't wait for the likes of Kobe, Thirdy and Papa Ricci to get drafted as these guys might bring with them their bougie fans and fan girls which can improve the PBA's demographics and cross-over appeal like what Patrimonio had done in the 90s and to a lesser extent, James Yap in the early 00s.
