officially he is listed as 33 years old (born 4 February 1988) but rumors circulating a decade a go that he was 4-5 years older, so 36-38 ang posibleng age nya, not to mention him being soy sauce
Hahaha. The old tatang Calvin rumors. Didn't his documents supposedly got lost during Pinatubo's eruption?
oo daw hahah, Abueva's backer is politically powerful, PCU's fake document scandal in 2007-2008 resulted to the program being suspended (evenmtuall left the ncaa),
just watched Abueva NCAA higlights on Youtube, mamang mama na sya maglaro cpmpared sa peers nya/ his game is too matured compared to his peers
Tough to prove anything if he's Delta's boy. He's basically the lord in the kingdom of Pampanga. Where did he go to highschool again? He basically came out of nowhere. Hard to miss someone like that especially if he's just from somewhere close like Pampanga. With Delta's connections you'd think he'd peddle someone as talented as him kahit bata pa..
Calvin Abwiba spent 8 years in High School, that is the "official" records that I know they have about him.
That's another thing: Most young Basketball talent in the Philippines are tracked as early as Elementary level, and they usually end up in the National Youth Teams, like Calvin's teammate Ian Sanggalang, for example. Ian was a member of the 2007 Youth team (if I remember it correctly). In fact, during the Nokia Youth Invitational he was a Turnover Machine. And yet he has now blossomed to the best big man in the NCAA.
Calvin, on the other hand, just sort of took everybody by surprise, ending up with the Stags and eventually playing exceptionally well with them. No High School Awards for Basketball that we know of, no stints in the National Youth Teams. He just sort of ... mushroomed, out of the blue into the NCAA ...
Same can be said to Jason Castro and Gabby Espinas. No HS Accomplishments - but both beasts during colleges.
so maybe they are also not young as we think they are?
Actually, you can see young features in Parks' face. As for Lebron, he was young-looking before he came into the league. He really became mature when he pumped his body up.
As for records regarding Abueva's true age, I read that his school records were destroyed by a flood daw. There were rumors of a couple of NCAA coaches (not SBCs) having proof that he was overage, but nothing came out of it.
Anyway, I guess it remains to be seen after a few years. Maybe he's reached his physical peak now (basketball players usually peak at 28-29) and we'll soon see a drop in his motor and athleticism. Maybe he really is 24 and better things are yet to come. Someone mentioned that it will become a huge issue when his contract is up. That's true. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
in other news 9from resident rumor peddler Snow Badua):
One big man’s injury is not progressing well, so they will send another big man to an independent team so they can readily download this guy when push comes to shove.
May pa- fiesta na si kapitan nyan.
I guess the big man with injury is Junmar
Which bigman are they going after? GS?
Abueva is a ticking time bomb, despite his recent attitude change any moment he could snap, Phx saved itself from a lot of headaches plus they got a quality PG in Banchero and 2 draft picks in a loaded draft, for now its a win for Phx.
Honestly, i think Phoenix won this deal. There are rumors wherein cash consideration was involved (which isnt shocking since Phoenix is in dire need of cash) so i think this was a win win scenario.
Banchero can fill in their starting point guard position together with his Co ABL alumnus Wright. Then they still have Perk and Chua plus the pick which they can use for someone like Statham or maybe a Pasaol. Palag palag na yan. Get a project big for the 2nd round like Laput. Then pwede na sila.
He'll be given more latitude by the PBA now that he's under Chualay...Calvin couldn't get any break when he was with indie teams, Alaska and Phoenix. But with SMC, a repeat of his previous shenanigans will be dealt less severely. Add to the fact that given Calvin's financial problems, being at SMC will make him mellow and realize how important his job would be - given all the perks that he would be receiving there...
i agree. phoenix won on thid trade. they need a good pg like banchero. with the very deep draft they can fill other positions. plus calvin already hit his ceiling. serviceable for about 2 to 4 years i think.
Really clueless on people looking this as a win for Mags since Phoenix filled one of their gaps which is a combo guard who is a 2 way stud. Also, they could put Wright at the 3 and draft Brickman (KL reunion with Wright) at the point for that 6th pick. Even Mikey Williams might be available on that spot.
Mikey Will / Brick
Banchero
Wright
Perkins
Chua.
Still solid IMO. Playoff team pa rin yan. Matter of finding the right bench pieces. Heck even that 2nd rounder is equivalent to a late 1st rounder with how deep this draft could be.

Then this happened. Abueva still has personal issues to deal with. So for me. Phoenix gets this one. Focus on the 6th pick and the 18th now and move on.
Magnolia clearly won the trade.. They don't even feel that presence of losing Banchero.. They have platoon of guards right there in Jalalon, Lee, Barroca and Melton.. While Abueva's entry to Magnolia will fill their long request of having a legit SF to their team.. They can now use Lee as combo guard, not a SF anymore.. Abueva's entry will clearly makes Magnolia a title contender under him.. Even they can beat mighty SMB and defending champs Ginebra.. But one thing for sure.. His entry will give Manila Classico a hype real again since Yap's exit.. Magnolia will have a new franchise player/endorser with Abueva (Sorry Paul Lee).. For me Abueva is the most popular player right now after Yap..
They can find a PG in the draft.. Too much talent there.. Is there any rookie prospects that has same gamestyle like Abueva? And Banchero is not already young also.. It should be either Abueva - Lee or Abueva - Sanggalang value.. But anyway fans will give pass to Phoenix first.. If they trade Wright and Perkins then they are now confirmed as farm team..
You are lowkey underestimating what Banchero could bring from a basketball and marketing standpoint. Id rather have him than settling with a rookie point guard who hasn't proven enough yet if they could conquer the PBA stage. Making Banchero the beta to Wright's alpha isn't that bad. Banchero was just not utilized well in Mags since they have a surplus of guards. But if he could be close to Alaska Banchero plus getting rid of Abueva who still has personal issues then ill take this as a PHX win.
Since opinion mo yan respeto na lang. Insights ko lang yan
Depending what team needs in their respective teams.. Mamaya eh guys like Brickman or Williams is available at 10th spot then pagsisisihan nila yan.. But it looks most of the teams don't need a guard.. Teams need wing and bigs.. So Phoenix can land Brickman at 10th pick is possible.. They should wait the draft to be finish before they make a move.. Wrong GM move for Phoenix..
Personal issues of Abueva is already gone by the way.. He prove that he's already a change guy on the court and also SMC group can change attitude of someone like Abueva.. Remember we also talking the same thing about Romeo when he was traded to SMB but SMB bosses tame him.. And if Marketing purposes ang paguusapan, How many times Abueva vote as an All-star compare to Banchero? Aside from Ginebra, Abueva's games is one of most watch games last season.. Remember when he came back after the suspension, Almost 125K watching his game on livestream.. Most without Ginebra games.. Abueva can bring Manila Classico game a hype real again.. And they were teammates in Alaska before, right? Who among two are best player? Even Abueva leave eh Vic Manuel is Alaska's franchise player than Banchero.. Isn't it? Banchero is not on level the guys like Lee, Pringle, Castro, Romeo at tier 1 PG.. Even Kiefer is higher upside than him.. While Abueva is a superstar.. Just like you trade Kawhi Leonard (A tier superstar) to Boston to Kemba Walker (Tier B- star guard).. If Phoenix wants future then they should get Jalalon rather than Banchero because Jalalon is young at age and not yet a Max player contract.. Banchero is a max player contract (Remember he wants to leave Alaska before because he wants a greener posture).. But yes, This trade is much better than the Perez trade that obviously a scam one.. Acceptable level..
