Kaya nga and people are co.llaining what wi this cadets do yun na nga they have a league that will make them busy and not steal slots from the pba teams for time being

I'm curious to know the reason behind your apprehension. I think it's gold for them given the lack of competetive games.

I can't tell. Maybe it's because of the fears from the other posters e.g. bad habits, and not getting used to the FIBA game, and them being targeted for cheap shots.

Hmm. That's true. As long as they play FIBA rules, I'm all for it. Wouldn't be too concerned about the cheap shots. I'm assuming (hoping) that we are already past that. I just want them to play more competitive games.

18 teams (including the 3x3 National Team) for the inaugural PBA 3x3.. PBA will be using the FIBA 3x3 rules..

It appears that 18 teams will play in the first conference, indicating a high level of interest beyond the PBA’s 12 franchises. One of the teams may be the Philippine 3x3 entry to the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Graz, Austria, on May 26-30. The initial competition will use a compressed format to finish in 18 days. Altamirano said depending on IATF rules, the games may or may not be held in a bubble. If a vaccine is still not widely available, a bubble will be the only option.

“At the moment, we’re assuming a bubble because of existing conditions,” said Altamirano. “Subject to Board approval, we’re thinking of starting a few days after the PBA draft which is scheduled on March 14 and ending a few days before the 5x5 season begins. Our limitation is if we do a bubble, players won’t be able to practice with their regular PBA teams for over two weeks and since we’ll end on April 5 and the 5x5 season starts April 9, there’s too little time to catch up. So we might play the opening conference without the first 15 or 16 players of each PBA team. Non-pros will be allowed to join our 3x3 tournament only with a Special Guest License from GAB. There will be more than enough players available for 3x3 and it’s an opportunity for those under the radar to showcase their skills. We’re actually pressed for time to set up and it’s a challenge.”

Marcial said the plan is to stage three 3x3 tournaments in a season – the first before the Philippine Cup, the second in between the Philippine Cup and Commissioner’s Cup and the third in between the Commissioner’s Cup and Governor’s Cup. Eligibility will conform to FIBA 3x3 rules, meaning anyone with a Philippine passport may play, regardless of ethnicity. Fil-foreigners who are ineligible to play in the PBA 5x5 season because they lack Bureau of Immigration recognition and Department of Justice affirmation despite holding a Philippine passport will be permitted to join. Earning FIBA 3x3 points for the country is a major consideration in the PBA’s program to support SBP, said Marcial.

Gilas joining PBA is pointless if they will not use fiba rules.

Agree. So the will have minimal adjustment in FIBA Asia Championship if PBA uses FIBA rules.

And, of course, to lessen the rough plays received by the guest team. I still remember Gilas 1 playing as a guest team. Watching their games live in Araneta, it was really painful to watch the Gila players receiving dirty plays while the referees go blind.

I wonder how coaches will react to pba using fiba rules. Im under the impression that tim cone is heavily against rule change.

way to piss Mascarinas and the Chooks to go 3x3 tournament, would this result to a FIBA sanction? atleast this will provide employment opportunities for displaced players

It's better than nothing.. We are in Pandemic situation.. We can use this PBA stint to develop more chemistry.. Remember next tournament after this is August pa.. tengga na naman mga cadets.. I don't care if they lose, As long as they will get their chemistry on and off the court..

aside from chemisty, this will keep the cadets in shape, case of point, numerous pba players entered the bubble out of shape

So aside on the 5 cadets (Go, Nietto bros, Bulanadi & Suerte) and the players who will pick by SBP for Gilas draft this year eh SBP will pick another 5 players from amateurs.. For sure it will be Baltazar, Ramos, Juan GDL, Javi GDL and Kobe Paras (for marketing).. Kouame for sure will not allow.. Baka kasi talunin nito si Junmar eh.. And with Bulanadi is injured then i think it could be replace by Carino...

LOL PBA players afraid of an UAAP import. What a joke.

Mismatch masyado sa loob pag wala si Kouame.

Yep. I couldn't see the logic of PBA teams being afraid of Kouame who is just a college player and way younger than the PBA players

I am sure some of those tall wings have been working on their post defense. But why are we talking about turning them to 4s? The are are a lot of home growns who can play the enforcer role inside. They can stay in the perimeter. But the PBA needs to be stricter on physicality in drives. Or else their advantage in agility and footspeed will be neutralized.

Because of switching defense.. Basketball is now evolve.. Not anytime you will play only in perimeter, They should also be able to defend post if switch is coming.. Example is Miami Heat last year.. Their finishing 5 is Adebayo, Herro, Robinson, Butler and Dragic.. Either Herro, Robinson or sometimes Butler playing 4 in defense...

I hope the PBA goes in this direction. I hope they dont tweak the rules to allow hand checks on drives to protect JMF and San Miguel.

I also hope that the PBA goes in this direction. We should actually be the ones to embrace it (switching, small-ball) because with our size, or lack thereof, well, ayun. Also, it helps the small-ball fours adjust to playing the 3.

There's a chance that the Gilas cadets may play some form of small-ball and positionless baksetball, with the switching. If they win with that style, maybe it can catch on.
