Yeah, Caperal's a UFA. That's gonna be a big challenge for Ginebra. They need to focus on Stan while at the same time maintaining their frontline.

I don't think money nor the nonexistent salary cap will be an issue. With the uncertainty surrounding Greg, I'd bet he'll stay.

Actually I dont recall a lot of instances wherein SMC teams just let assets go away for nothing. Normally they recycle them to other SMC teams or at least use them as trade baits.

Or players from their teams demanding trades, the only instance of which I remember was Standhardinger requesting a trade from SMB.

Marcial says he's open to considering naturalized players as locals: http://tbti.me/s209ik

Same as Japan. This would be a nice step.

Papayag naman kaya ang SMC group nyan? SMC people would be ok with ideas na favorable sa kanila. Remember, Dray Blatche is with the MVP group, so as Ange Kouame although nasa proseso pa lang ang naturalization bid nya. Brownlee is with the SMC group, but just like Kouame nasa Congress pa rin ang naturalization bid nya.

The thing is even a washed-up Blatche would still be a handful to any PBA local player. I don't think Junmar or CStand would be able to defend a 38-year old Blatche from the perimeter. But I'm convince Blatche would be able to defend Junmar or Greg at the post.

Brownlee's a friggin' rock star. And he's arguably a PBA legend at this point. It's gonna benefit the SMC group in some way or another. He's a game-changer for them. However, it would really depend on the passage of his naturalization bill. And with regards to the naturalization, Kouame's the priority. McCullough sana, but I dunno. He's been with SMB for only one conference, and there's no news on his naturalization bid.

Shame if the SMC group won't approve of it. It would really be a game-changer for Philippine basketball.

Depending on Greg's situation bro.. if Greg will come back next season then I suppose that caperal will leave.. he will again on the bench because Greg will eat his minutes.. then what if teams like nlex and meralco (under mvp group that has money also) will offer caperal a huge money plus big playing time.. tatanggi pana si caperal? Nlex and meralco needs big man.. especially in nlex that he will surely fit on CYG's system.. in this free agency era, aside from money eh playing time is also the main issue for players.. players wants more playing time to increase their stocks as players.. look at rondo and howard.. patag na sila sa Lakers but they choose to leave because of money and more playing time.. if caperal will go to nlex eh he will be the first option on center slot because asi is already consider retirement and quinahan is more on 4 rather than 5.. nlex needs a big man.. so definitely they will do everything para talunin ginebra sa offer.. baka isama sa offer ng nlex Ang free tolls everyday sa nlex.. hahhahahahhaha..

Or maybe they nudge him towards Magnolia. Tbh, I don't really revall a lot of instances where an UFA in the PBA decided to sign with a different team.

Hmmm, i dont really see SMB move on from Mo. Their frontcourt depth is shite. If Mo goes, they wpuldn't have any other center to backup June Mar or step up if June Mar gets injured again.

And Mo can play a little alongside June Mar. Plus, after June Mar's injury (and the fact that the rest of the stars are old), Austria has to get better with his minutes distribution. He has to rotate June Mar, Arwind, Mo, and Escoto at the 4 and 5.

Mo should get a bigger role. As a 4 alongside June Mar, he fits with San Miguel's 4-out scheme, and he has more ways to attack than Arwind. Defense will be a problem, but really what won their games was more their firepower than their D.

i agree. junmar is already in decline. masyado kasi babad si junmar. i think junmar when he comes back will play limitted minutes.

UFA means players have the rights now to pick their teams.. Now on Caperal, His stock is on high.. If Ginebra will not give him deserve contract then other teams will take that opportunity.. As i said, other factors that could let some players to change teams, aside of money eh playing time also the main reason.. If Greg will come back then Caperal's minutes will down again.. Ginebra can't put Caperal to Magnolia because he's now UFA.. Unlike before.. Yes, Ginebra is the favorite team of many players, But players always choose their right path of their careers.. Much OK if you have ample playing time in other teams rather than stucking on the bench in Ginebra..

I know what UFA means. But does an UFA in the PBA actually sign elsewhere? As far as I know, very rarely.

due to pandemic they incurred losses. three conference format maybe will let them recuperate.

If they're going to proceed with this, they better stick to last conference's frequency of games per week. The everyday-game-day setup during the bubble conference was such a revelation. I think it sparked a renewed interest with the viewers.

And since there's no collegiate season now, it's the perfect time to do it. Plus, the everyday-game day setup compresses the season. It took only a month to finish the elimination round.

Ideally, it's 3 games a day, everyday for the eliminations round. That would only take 22 days. The playoffs, on the other hand, if they go the distance, would take 30 days. By this projection, if the next season starts in April, the season would end on June 2. Enough time to start next conference for a month, but I'd rather use the time to prepare for the FIBA Asia Cup, which starts on August 16.

.

Do they really care about the welfare of Phi basketball? I think what SMC people care about is for their teams to monopolize PBA championships - something which they have achieved in the last several years now. So why change the status quo when you're doing fine with it?

I am an Ginebra Fan.

But SMC obviously prioritize Pba over Gilas.

SMC MENTALITY: We will earn more by monopolizing pba. We will just lose money if we focus on national team.

Hahahahahahahhahahhahahahahahah.

And as Jamskie said, they are successful.

Would have to agree with this. Unless it would only benefit them alone. These are the same teams who would rather bench players than have them play for their rivals.

Thanks for the sobering reminder. Man, approving of naturalized players in the PBA might redound to their benefit. Brownlee or McCullough, if naturalized (and if McCullough stays with the SMC group), can help them monopolize the PBA championships. It's a win-win.

SMB's a really obvious example. AVO, MGR, Standhardinger, Zamar, Mo. Ginebra, well, their only cases of rotation players being benched is Art dela Cruz (and that was because he was injured a lot) and Prince Caperal (who had a bigger role when Greg was out). Magnolia, I dunno about their rotation players being benched.

Thank god for the UFA. There's an off chance (even if it's remote) that good players will want more minutes. Money won't be the issue.

If I were them, I'd also look at the EASL as an opportunity to market their teams. That's gonna mean big money for them internationally. One of their teams, Ginebra, qualified by virtue of being in the Finals a few weeks ago, and eventually winning the trophy. I also feel that at least one of their teams will compete for the EASL every year. Sure, they'll lose a few games here and there, but come on, their teams will be better in the PBA after that experience.

It will be a tough time winning in both the EASL and in the PBA, though. FC Barcelona win La Liga about every year, but they don't always win the UEFA Champions League. Real Madrid, their rivals, it's vice versa for them.

Yes, it assures a game for each team every other day, thus the compression of the conference if it's just going to be single-round robin elims format. Aside from that, 3 games per day streamed on One Sports/TV5 FB pages would be more than enough to satisfy every Pinoy bball fan's hunger for televised ballgames.

Agree. SMC and MPIC should now focus on getting their teams to participate in this EASL thing for the next 10 years or so. They can let the other PBA teams win the "minor" conferences for now, knowing that it's always better to win the regional/continental club tournaments. It should always be the bigger picture for them from then on, as it would not only be for their respective businesses' best interests, but also the country's. No harm in making the Pinoys fully proud once in a while.
