Philippine PBA Trades, Releases, Sign-ups, Rumours (vol. III)

Speaks a lot of dedication and discipline in losing 25lbs in a month. As I what I have been saying before, Slaughter is one of those diligent guys who dedicate himself to conditioning during off season instead of going on vacation. Its just that injuries has hampered his career. I wont be surprise if he will have a Reavis or Taulava like longevity with his dedication...

I wonder what/ how much is that “offer he couldn’t refuse” that made Jared Dillinger sign with Ginebra all the while already on a maximum paying contract with Meralco.
SMH at these moves PBA. Along with players released because they have not attended team practices and games; it is another tarnish to it’s “very reputable reputation” http://https://www.spin.ph/basketball/pba/meralco-claims-dillinger-broke-gentleman-s-agreement-to-sign-with-ginebra-a795-20190531

Its bonuses, though im surprised they went for Jared he only has a couple of years in him and theres a handful of somewhat tall athletic wings waiting to be drafter

It didn't cost Ginebra much to get JD. They didn't lose a player or a pick, so if he doesn't pan out, they won't lose much.

I don't really think this is a major issue. JD may have opted to leave Meralco for Ginebra for several reasons other than money. But, assuming he did, he'll be joining a team that potentially may give him more bonuses depending on the team's performance.

There may have been a gentleman's agreement but legally, this is not binding. It was a risk that Meralco took when they put JD in the unrestricted FA because that gives teams the option of giving him an offer.

The underlying problem really is players wanting to play for the bigger market teams where their chances of earning more are greater. But this is not uncommon in the NBA as well when superstars from smaller market teams would like to move to LA, Chicago, Boston or New York because of better opportunities. That's something I don't think any league commissioner would be able to prevent - neither would stringent and more transparent rules on the salary cap can.

Good move by JD financially and career wise. Considering his age, 35(?), he should be with a team where he can be a contributor/role player rather than one of the main players of a team. Meralco has been inconsistent for a few years now. They are trash team every All Filipino Conference. They'll perform better depending on their import in the 2nd conference, and a mediocre team that could surprise in the 3rd conference.

Meralco under Black has had mixed results. Very questionable to say the least about his direction with the team. Can't tell if the team is rebuilding or just waiting for the right pieces to come their way. They haven't seem to have made any moves to get more marquee players and I guess they were quite satisfied with their investment with Amer and Newsome as the main players of the team. Pretty disappointing.
