Let's cut the PBA some slack here. The reason why the season will end on December is because of how they adjusted for the national team. Note, the original schedule was really meant to be completed by late October, giving the players at least 2 months of rest.

Moving forward though, maybe the Board can seriously consider Dioceldo Sy's proposal to cut down the season to only two conferences as it was from 2004 to 2010. But to castigate the PBA's schedule this season when they actually did this to give way for our national team should not even be criticized but commended.

Or we could compress the season into 6-8 months keeping intact the 3 conference format by increasing the frequency of games in a week. Imagine PBA teams plays a minimum of 33 games (for constant cellar dwellers) to 60 games (inclusive of playoffs and finals) spread into 10 months, plays 1 to 2 games a week with no back to back games and long road trips around the country.

Ok, point taken. My bad.

About Dioceldo Sy's proposal of a two-conference format, I think almost everyone here has been clamoring for that for several years already. And I think that is the most logical idea. Also, I suggest we cut the PBA season to only 9 months instead of 10 months. An 9-month PBA season would be realistic becoz saying we cut the PBA season to 8 months or even less than that would be "suntok sa buwan".

The right step really is to increase the frequency of games per team per week. This is something the Board will not be comfortable with because players won't be getting enough rest and coaches won't have enough time preparing. But that's how it should be done.

There are 12 teams in the league so far. For every team to have at least 2 games per week, there should be at least 12 games scheduled. That means 6 days a week of twinbill schedules, perhaps from Tuesday to Sunday with Mondays as their restdays. A daily dose of the PBA won't be too bad really, plus, it trains our players and coaches to be ready for the tough grind in international schedules when games are played daily.

during salud s time and gilas rise three conference yun yun nga lang 10 teams.. 12 teams disrupted pba sched big time...

even alaska has 32 day break .. buhay yayamanin ang pba..

theres no real off season but a lot of 7 day twelve day breaks but not really making optimal use of our athletes

Yup...the number of games per team is attributed to getting as much brand exposure as possible. Whether it's 2 or 3 conferences, what matters is that the PBA should consider playing a maximum of 9 months per year only. In the 70's, the league normally starts its season on April and ends on December. You can only imagine the excitement of the fans when the next season opens, after being "hungered" for 3 months...

also, the pba players are humans too.. PBA itself should know about that and look the amount of injuries each team has. Greg, JF, JA, RDO, dillinger to name a few. that’s the result of whole year games of PBA with little to none rest.. and yes cut off the 3rd conference.. just increase the number of games in prestigious All filipino Cup and remain the same for commisioners cup and make it unlimited height.. smh why they’re still putting height limit? To protect JF’s legacy?

Increasing the frequency of games would mean teams will have less practices, pero ganun naman talaga dapat eh. I mean what is the average No. of games that a PBA team plays in 2 weeks span during eliminations? Perhaps 3 to 4 games in two weeks, which means practicing about 10 to 11 days in that two-week period. If we increase the games by lets say 5 to 6 games in two weeks, that would mean the team gets to practice for 8 to 9 days in 2 weeks.

In the NBA, a team gets to play an average of about 6 to 7 games in the regular season. This only goes to show the disparity between a PBA team & an NBA team in terms of frequency of games.

So if an NBA team plays an average of about 7 games in two weeks, the team also gets to practice for only 7 to 8 days in 2 weeks. You wonder why no NBA team is complaining about how hectic their schedule is & with less practice sessions they are allotted to.

Increasing the frequency of games will definitely "hurt" the PBA but it would only be temporary. Once the players/teams would be able to adjust, everything will just be fine. Bottomline is, changes really have to be made. The league has to relevant with the changing times. PBA can't afford to be stagnant.

Subrang napakasarap ng litson if you have not eaten it for a year. Pero kung kahapon ka lang kumain ng litson, mababawasan ang sarap sa pagkain mo ngayon.

Yes. Try to eat litson/litson paksiw everyday for 7 straight days & I tell you its either magsasawa ka or magka alta presyon ka or both:cool:

Sorry for the OT.

Honestly, my interest in watching PBA games is revitalized during that extremely short PBA off season. I could sense ganun din feeling ng mga friends ko as we are very interested to know how good (or bad) the blue-chip rookies are or those players who have transferred to another team during off season trades. But pagdating ng 3rd conference, I observe parang wala na halos interest ang mga tao manood ng PBA games. Parang sawa na.

well i don’t know who the import is for nlex, columbian bitch, alaska and ROS and maybe Phoenix. that tells you that for the 3rd straight year, i don’t watch 3rd conference. not unless it’s finals or game 7 of the finals.. some pinoy fans already watch an import flavoured 2nd conference and if you follow that up with another one with a height limit of 6’5 chances are pinoy fans will get bored and will not watch the games.. and PBA plans to do the same next season.. Do they ever learned? 2-3 owners na suggesting scrapping the 3rd conference.. and injuries left and right to key players especially Fajardo, GS, japs.. Fajardo got injured due to wear and tear for a year long season plus gilas games.. PBA should realized that players are human too.. yep 9 months is ideal.. create a miss factor. that clicks during the last decade. imagine a non ginebra games are sold out and has high ratings last decade with the 2 conference?

its true nakakasawa na talaga PBA. i only watch it if theres no other thing on TV or if im fed up playing with my mobile games. since UAAP is on, i only now watch UAAP. i have no motivation to watch PBA now.

Alamazan is AWOL. Likely asking to be traded.

What's with PBA players and being AWOL? First it was Abueva, now Almazan.

So Delta executed pala yun kay Calvin, marital and money problems didnt help either...ang hirap nun...

while the neighboring ABL and CBA teams are playing with NBA teams during their off-season, the PBA's 2017-2018 season is still ongoing...the heck

It will make you wonder why the NBA with its 30 teams , more games played was able to have a shorter season plus a pre season plus a summer league.
