Problema ng Pba is super kuripot.. They want an influential guy so that they can fompendate his lack of salary with perks of his affiliation (for being a lawyer)

they cant hire. marketing guy rarher than rhose montreal who is good in old school solicitation..they cant hire a commissioner who only focuses on league and game judgement and. ceo to run pb things and rhe pba board to just mere yes men and suggestion givers

Excited for TNT Katropa's season debut especially the debut of Mark Tallo!

He will form a dreaded Cebuano Troika with Pogoy and Arong in the near future!

Tallo just got welcomed by Beau Belga.. i believe he was saying "Wow! Wow!"

Raymond Yu just suggested the name of Yeng Guiao to be the next Commissioner.

An excellent choice really. He won't back down against either parties; he knows the game extremely well; even if he's now employed with the MVP Group - I doubt if he'll favour them more than anyone else; Chua won't try to influence him being a good friend of his; Yeng's a politician and can easily handle the egos of the Board members; he has strong leadership skills and has a proven track record as Commissioner of the PBL in the mid-90's.

As for his business acumen, Yeng has his own business in Pampanga and is one of the most affluent and influential personalities in his province. He definitely has what it takes to run the league.

The question is: would ECJ / RSA want him there? Well at least, SMB's Gee Abanilla thinks he's absolutely qualified...

I like Yeng's personality. Call him bastos, arrogant, harsh, pikon, etc., but what I like about him the most is he is principled man & he has the balls to stand up with his principles.

In a time when principle & virtue are easily compromised for money, power & inconvenience, Yeng Guiao is a rare breed.

I would rather befriend a bastos, arrogant, harsh, loud-mouth but principled man than someone who seems soft-spoken, respectful & courteous but would easily compromise his principle for his convenience. Someone who is willing to sell his soul to the devil. How many of our politicians are like that?

Merry Christmas to everyone:)

Yengs calling might not be the Pampanga Gilovernor but being a PBA kume...

Although I belive needs a CEO..

I see we voted for the same President. :D

PBL was stable with Yeng as the commissioner. But as a fan, I'd want him to still be a coach. He's probably the closest thing to Jawo. If you're a fan of his team, you'll still see him likeable even for his ill temper.

i wish they can find someone like yeng but pba needs to have a good marketing now. the drop in gate attendance is just alarming

Nah! Yeng has more finesse than our beloved President. At least Yeng is "bastos", arrogant, & harsh only in the basketball court. I have never seen or heard coach Yeng cursing someone in public - something our President is used to doing.

Oh god. Whenever someone mentions that dick in Malacanan, and how "awesome" he is, i feel like puking. All bark, no substance, pure shit.

That sorry excuse of an elected official aside, Yeng's a no-no for the commissioner role. He is the head coach of one of the empires (the good one), after all. An independent candidate would be ideal but with the powers in play, I doubt they would pick anyone who isn't leaning on their side of the fence. TBH, Chito Salud was doing an exemplary job before Narvasa. After all, the league flourished while he was in the commissioner's office. Definitely a true professional with finesse and composure. I liked how he handled media interviews and other issues.

I remember when Enrico Villanueva was furious for a non-call at the end of a close game and he stepped into the court to pacify things. Enrico actually shouted at him and he just waved it off saying that emotions were high at the time. Imagine Enrico doing that to Narvasa.

A dick? hmm.. translating would be a bit Shakespearean. From "Julius Caesar":

"Et tu, Brute?"

(trans: "Heto, Burat?")

AHAHAHAHA!

I think though the whole PBA fiasco over Standhardinger all started because of Yeng Guiao. If only the man have stick to the script of losing most of their games, NLEX should have gotten easily the first pick of the draft and all this mess could have been prevented. But the man is too principled for that, "Trust the Process'' is not his thing, he hates losing and and soon NLEX keeps on winning which eventually lost grip of the prized first pick catch. I guess that says a lot about the man, he can't be manipulated by his own management if obeying them ends him and his team as losers. So with that, that makes him an ideal independent PBA commissioner.

On the other hand, I do agree with you that we have a dickhead president in Malacanang.

Philippines is really much safer now compare before specialy dito sa lugar namin dati dami adik, holdaper, snatcher ngayon bibihira nako makakita, of course nothing perfect and with a lot of infrastructure project i'm very happy with the performance of this government. much much better than previous administration na wala ginawa kundi siraan sariling bansa para lang maka balik sa pwesto desente daw corrupt naman pala at naniwala naman iba lol.

sorry for OT admin.

Correct. Coach Yeng is too principled a man to resort to such shit. And coach Yeng respects the sports a lot. Ayaw nyang baboyin ang basketball - something that the idiot Kia management had disgustedly done.

I think almost all successful coaches have that kind of mentality, they respect the sports a lot that they won't compromise it for money, fame or power. Yeng Guiao will always have that coach mentality in him.

If NLEX wanted to tank, why did they hire Yeng so soon? Is it because they were afraid that SMC might scoop him? And can we blame Yeng for trying to maintain the integrity of the league? Besides, even if Yeng did tank, the trade would still have happened if it was Kia that got the pick. It's still a lottery, right? But in hindsight, NLEX should have waited for the top pick to fall into their lap before signing Yeng up. Rain or Shine did that very same thing - after getting Gabe Norwood, Yeng was brought in and he built a perennial contender.

The timelines are a bit inaccurate.

1. Yeng Guiao was hired at the start of the 2017 season when NLEX management saw he wasn't contractually obligated. At that time, ROS and Guiao were still negotiating for renewal. NLEX grabbed the opportunity to secure his services.

2. The first two conferences of NLEX, where the team ended up in the cellar both times, were handled by Yeng. He even had Wayne Chism brought in the Commissioner's Cup but couldn't turn the fortunes around until the 3rd Conference.

3. In the Governors' Cup, NLEX needed to place 8th place or lower to secure the top overall pick. But with a solid and consistent import in Aaron Fuller plus a slowly-jelling local lineup, the team ended up 5th overall, losing the top pick to KIA.

4. Yeng joined ROS in 2011, or three years after Norwood was drafted. Before ROS, Yeng was with Burger King / Air 21 and it was only when he was released by the Lina franchise was the time the Que/Yu consortium got hold of his services.

5. There's a genuine risk that the MVP Group got Yeng early because he wasn't just a free agent at that time, his services may be secured by the opposing conglomerate.

Nagtank naman din si Yeng. He inherited a pretty good team that placed well under Boyet Fernandez. And yet his team was the worst team in the first two conferences. If he really wanted to win he couldve pounded the ball inside to Taulava and Guinto. He forced his team to run even if he inherited a half court one. Towards the end of the 2nd conf when they were assured of last place he traded two of his strongest front court players for Quinahan. Quinahan helped them win some inconsequential games. But they were assured of the 2nd pick already. Which is still pretty good prize for Yengs subtle tanking.

A fan can uderstand 2-3 seasons of badbperformancebif the coach can giveva credible explanation. But Kia takes Pacquiao as their first round pick playing coach. And proceeds to give its best players away every season. No fan will enjoy that.
