salud should be in control? More like san mig is in control of salud. I expect to hear a mouthful from Uytengsu or trillo and a huge fine after that. Hey, is that phil oakley?

If these things continue to happen, wont be surprised to see ROS, Alaska get out of the league

Won't be surprised if that happens in 3-4 years time. However, these are the teams without much fanbase (especially ROS) and they won't be missed (in case of Alaska, a bit because of their history and winning tradition).

Now if it's MVP teams (though they the Other Evil Empire anyway) then maybe it could take its toll.

Let's imagine a league without ROS, ALA.. Yup. Eventually they can easily be replaced...

The problem is SMC and Philippine culture actually. We allow these things to happen because... well, because it's the way in the Philippines.

This is not just pro basketball, it happens everywhere.

NBA muna ako. kawalang gana yung mga trades.

trans.. i'll stop following PBA updates for a while.

Now i know you're reading my posts intently....:)

But do you agree that the NBA, NFL & MLB are balanced leagues?

Well, at least they have systems that really work.

In MLB, teams dont have salary cap, but teams who spend more than the agreed threshold will have to share their revenues to the whole league. So the KCs and the Milawaukees of the world are thanking the Yanks, Dodgers and Angels for some of their revenues.

In the NBA, they have a working salary cap policy, and those who spend more than the cap pay luxury tax dollar for dollar in excess of the cap. The tax are divided and are given to the smaller market teams. So Jordan and his Bobcats (err Hornets pala) are really grateful to Dolan and his Knicks.

NFL is the model of parity in the US pro sports scene. They have a very structured and very hard salary cap policy. Small market teams can actually compete with the bigs. I bet nobody here in InterBasket has ever been to Green Bay Wisconsin. But you see towns like this being very competitive, and has no problem signing high profile players. NYC has 2 teams and both are irrelevant coming in to the 2nd half of this season. Los Angeles, the 2nd largest TV market in the US, doesnt even have a team.

Air21 and Red bull are a scam. I rather see SMDC and Phoenix fuel enter PBA and remove Air 21 and Red bull.

On that note, PBA has their own unintentional revenue sharing: SMC's cash to SMC Bitches during lopsided trades ;)

So who will Barako get in exchange of it's 4th rookie draft pick being traded to Ginebra? An aging Jayjay Helterbrand who's already 36 years old? Rudy Hatfield?

Who will Barako get in exchange of it's 5th pick being traded to Petron? Ronald Tubid who is 32 years old? Chico Lanete? Or maybe Paolo Hubalde?

It's obvious people are now fed up with these lopsided trades in the PBA.

Could it be that Barako axed Rajko Toroman becoz Toroman would surely be displeased with these stupid trades and would not mince any word to express his displeasure to the media?

Air21 and Red bull are a scam. I rather see SMDC and Phoenix fuel enter PBA and remove Air 21 and Red bull.

It won't happen because SMC would strongly oppose it. Petron & any rival fuel company will never co-exist in the PBA.

the problem with these unfair trades is that in makes one think what else are 'fixed'?

if teams like barako are willing bitches in trades then it is likely that they would tank games in favor of their masters.

what else? are championship games scripted? are playoff series stretched for maximum exposure? are pba championships shared?

what happens to the league's integrity? is the pba now becoming the wwe of basketball?

Agree with you, 100%.

What about Barako Bull & Air-21 intentionally losing their games for the season so that they end up getting good positions in the draft, then as they get those blue-chip rookies, they once again engage in lop-sided trades with SMC teams to get some bounty cash?

blue-chip rookie=marginal & aging player + cash

You're correct, what will happen to the integrity of the league if these stupid trades continue & even get worse? What if basketball fans will have an impression that championship series are scripted or some games are fixed?

Some posters here would say, "Eh anong magagawa natin eh ganyan talaga ang buhay? That's the way of the world. We have to live with it & accept things as they are"

All I can say is that, if the PBA loses it's credibility, then aren't we as basketball fans being fooled watching "scripted" championship series? Aren't we making ourselves stupid patronizing a league who's credibility is going on a downward spiral?

Championship games stretched? First & second conferences ended in sweeps...ginebra was even in one of them...

look at the bright side, Ababou could pad his stats and increase his value,

But what about the rookie that will be picked 4th in the draft? That rookie might either be Terrence Romeo or Jerick Teng. Will he get the exposure he needs playing for a talent-laden team like Ginebra?

But the 3rd conference was different since the championship was contested by two SMC teams. You know what I mean

Dylan ababou in exchange for 4th pick

Dylan ababou in exchange for 4th pick

Is the trade "fair"?

I think either Romeo & Teng has the potential to become at least a PBA star (if not a superstar) while Ababou had hardly made an impact so far after 2 years in the PBA. At 6-3, Ababou is undersized to play the 4 spot & he's not quick & flexible enough to be an effective small forward. Besides, Ababou is already 27, while Romeo & Teng are in their early 20's.

Not to mention he tore his ACL. Don't worry BB will send him back to GINEBRA with a future draft pick for Helterbrand in the future.

I ask you, why did the PBA allow ginebra to be swept in the 2nd conf? They could have given at least a game in the series for more income, right?

Cone quick to shoot down rumor San Mig planning to trade rights to Sangalang to Ginebra in three-team deal
From: Snow BaduaNovember 2, 2013, 04:19 pm

“He can run the floor for a big man. He’s very skilled. To me, he’s the most accomplished player in the draft - the most PBA ready,” says San Mig coach Tim Cone of rookie hopeful Ian Sangalang. Snow Badua
SAN Mig Coffee coach Tim Cone was quick to shoot down rumors that the Mixers plan to pick Ian Sangalang with the second selection overall so they can trade him to Barangay Ginebra.

Rumors spread on the eve of the rookie draft about an alleged plan for Ginebra to trade Dylan Ababou to Barako Bull for the fourth pick overall, which will then be used to pick former UAAP MVP RR Garcia who will then be sent to San Mig for the rights to Sangalang.

Cone, who is on vacation with his family in Subic, immediately nipped the rumor in the bud, saying San Mig has no plan to give away Sangalang when the team tabs the former San Sebastian star at No. 2 overall.

“We’re not gonna do Ginebra any favor by trading to them Ian, that’s for sure,” Cone said.

Cone, now tied with the legendary Baby Dalupan for the all-time league record of 15 titles after leading the Mixers to the last Governors Cup championship, said he is certain that Sangalang is bound to become one of the best players to come out of the 2013 batch.

“I think, It (the best choice in this pool) is a toss-up between Ian and Slaughter at number one. We just have to get him at number two. Slaughter, I believe, is going to Ginebra,” he added.

Cone bared that he has long kept an eye on the versatile Kapampangan from his college days with San Sebastian to his stint in the PBA D-League.

“I’ve seen him play there. And also in the D-League. He is an accomplished big man,” he said. “I think of all the people in the draft, he could step in and be an impact player right away. He’s got the agility to play in and out. He can defend bigger people.

“He can run the floor for a big man. He’s very skilled. To me, he’s the most accomplished player in the draft - the most PBA ready,” added Cone.

Sangalang, meanwhile, is bracing for a tough competition for minutes at San Mig.

“Oo madaming malalaki run. Pero sa akin, kahit saan ako mapunta okay sa akin. Importante maipakita ko worthiness ko na mag PBA,” said Sangalang.

Sangalang also said he has slowly come to accept that his dream of playing for Ginebra will not come true - at least, not on his rookie year.

“Oo, mukhang malabo na ko makuha doon (Ginebra). At ako naman, professional ako. Kahit saan ako mapunta, ibibigay ko 100 percent ko,” he added.

Did Ginebra even came close in possibly winning any of 3 games?

I hope before the PBA expands, they should sell Air 21 and Barako bull, Air 21 actually has a decent chance this year, franz already has his materials, but barako is something else. Barako should sell its team to a non smc or non mvp team. I doubt SM would want to enter the leauge by buying barako, but enter with a clean slate that way they can direct hire parks.
