Slaughter at San Mig Coffee. With Reavis and YDO and JDV-- that's an NBA-sized frontline.

size is one thing...game is another. not to mention the age of reavis and ydo. and as noted above, if parks enters he'll supplant slaughter as the number one pick.

^ This year it's a little different because the draft is moved to November, hence wala ng UAAP. Other years, it runs smack into the last stages of the UAAP.

IIRC, the rule is, once you get drafted, you can no longer play in the UAAP.

Yup, and the deadline for applying in the rookie draft i believe is after the uaap season...even guys like rr garcia, jeric teng & ryan buenafe can apply for the incoming draft if they want to...

My question is, will this be the yearly practice or is it just an anomaly due to the reorganization of the schedule of the conferences due to FIBA Asia.

is he? afaik there is a rule in the UAAP that their players cannot join the PBA Draft if they are playing in the UAAP in the same calendar year.
Well if they changed that then yes, he is eligible.
maybe UAAP fans here can shed a light?

remember that most of these 5th year players are already taking up "masterals" and have technically "graduated" already from college. The one guy i'm sure of is RR Garcia...he already "got" (so many quotations?) his college diploma so if he decides to join the november pba draft then he can since it's after the uaap season. Jeric Teng is a different case though...most say he still really has a full semester after this one so he can't join the pba draft just yet.

You dont have to have a college diploma to be eligible for the draft...it's the player's option is he wants to finish his studies first...though i believe teng will finish his studies first...

true..as long as you qualify for the age limit then you can enter the draft.plus the player can still continue his studies while playing in the PBA.

A sticking point in the negotiations between Meralco and Mario West remains unresolved: West wants a one-month guarantee in his contract while the Bolts are offering a two-week guarantee.

WITH less than two weeks to go before the PBA Governors’ Cup, Meralco remains the only team still without a guaranteed import as the Bolts have yet to close a deal with Mario West.

West’s agent Sheryl Reyes told Spin.ph said the import has agreed in principle to play for the Bolts and they were already furnished a copy of the offer sheet by team manager Butch Antonio last Monday.

“I already have the contract (offer)," said Reyes. “He’s ready to fly in by Thursday. So if everything’s ironed out, he can be here by Saturday na."

However, a sticking point in the negotiations remains unresolved at posting time: West wants a one-month guarantee in his contract while the Bolts are offering a two-week guarantee.

“Mario kasi is asking for a one-month guarantee in his contract. Meralco only wants to give two weeks. Ayaw ni Mario yun eh,” said Reyes.

“Not cancelled pa naman totally yung negotiations, but Mario has to decide. He already told me he won’t take it if its two weeks,” the agent added.

The 29-year-old Huntsville, Alabama native played for the Bolts in last year’s season-ending tournament, where he averaged 30.09 points, 7.82 rebounds, 2.73 assists, 2.45 steals and 1.09 blocks per game.

Meralco governor Ramon Segismundo told Spin.ph the team is also in negotiations with another prospect whom he refused to name.

“We really want to get the best. Somebody who will match our lineup,” said Segismundo, while scratching off the name of DJ Kennedy as the other option for the team.

“We will know once he arrives, we will know by Sunday,” said the current vice-chairman of the league board.

Meanwhile, here is an updated list imports who already measured passed the 6-5 height limit set for the Governors’ Cup.

D-League work pays off as Mangahas signed to a deal by Meralco Bolts

THE efforts of Allan Mangahas in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup last month have finally paid off.

After leading Blackwater to its first championship at the expense of powerhouse NLEX, Mangahas fulfilled his dream of making it to the PBA after signing a one-conference deal with Meralco last Monday.

“Happy ako sa opportunity na binigay sa akin,” Mangahas told Spin.ph on Wednesday.

Mangahas becomes one of the few undrafted players to make it to the PBA through the D-League, regarded as the breeding ground of the country’s future pro basketball stars.

The veteran playmaker, who averaged 14.5 points, 12 boards, five assists, and one steal in 34.5 minutes during the Finals, impressed Bolts coach Ryan Gregorio who was the one who invited him to practice with the team.

Mangahas has been training for one month with the Bolts, ironically a sister team of the Road Warriors, whose four-conference title reign was finally snapped by the Elite.

With no takers during the last PBA draft, the former Mapua Cardinal and NCAA Rookie of the Year plied his trade in the D-League, where he found a niche with the Elite. He finished second to Jake Pascual in the Foundation Cup Conference MVP race.

Mangahas is still finishing his psychology degree in Mapua.

So it is official, Tony mitchell was not able to secure a spot in training camp from any NBA team. He played really well in Orlando for the celtics and in Vegas for the knicks.

PBA has new rules on flopping, flagrant fouls

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) will be enforcing new rules concerning “flopping” and flagrant fouls for the PBA Governors’ Cup.

Based on the new rules recently approved by the PBA Board of Governors, flopping will be subject to review by the Office of the Commissioner.

The player found to be flopping will be summoned by Commissioner Chito Salud, according to the league website.

If the player is found to have indeed committed the violation, he will be fined P5,000 for the first infraction. Each succeeding flopping offense will get the player a P10,000 fine.

The fines will be paid after the conference.

The PBA has also decided to discard the 5-year-old memorandum categorizing specific acts as Flagrant Foul Penalty 1 and Flagrant Foul Penalty 2.

Instead, the league will use the original definition of flagrant fouls:

Flagrant Foul Penalty 1 – unnecessary contact

Flagrant Foul Penalty 2 – unnecessary and excessive contact

The PBA Governors' Cup will begin on August 14, shortly after the FIBA Asia championship.

I honestly think that if a player flopped.it should merit to a fine and a one game suspension and a technical foul.

The thing with flops is that it's hard to determine live. That's why the NBA and now the PBA resorts to fines after the game tape is reviewed. A suspension I think is too harsh, maybe for repeat offenders.

Live yes.but now with the new rule it is subject for review by the commish.if they want to curb flopping, they should make the penalty harsh. I dont like flopping.it destroys the flow of the game.a fine and a game suspension will suffice.

sure? I though one of the requirements was to have graduated from college first...remember the infamous stunt kerby raymundo did? He was already playing in the pba but needed to come back to letran to finish his degree first. Has that rule been changed since? I don't know anyone in the pba right now who was drafted then came back to college to finish his degree.
