LOL! i think BT means danding cant fire them like what he did to GEE because he is not the booster of UST or ADU...so they should honor the live contract that they have. unlike DLSU...they are part of SMC empire...right BT?

why would danding want to fire pido and austria?

yup hehe :p

So Petronovela continues with this news from Rey Joble:

I was initially skeptical about that scoop, considering the source. But until the SMC Group comes out with a firm denial on Badua's report, then I wouldn't know what to believe.

Simply put, if Badua's report was totally untrue, SMC could have easily made a statement denying these news. Instead, Eala and Racela only made their statements in an interview by Rey Joble.

Sir, Indonesia Warriors just parted ways with Todd Purves. It's in their twitter account. So, Purves is free, and he says he will not coach for another ABL team but offers are from the US, SEASIA, and others. And Eala's statement is not an outright denial.

My best guess is that Noli Eala is fidgeting here. If Badua's report was untrue, it would be easy for Eala to come out with a categorical statement denying the news. Instead, he never said anything within 24 hours upon the report came out. Instead, he only made a statement when interviewed by Joble in this article. And his answer, to be honest, was pretty lame. Eala should have simply made a direct to the point statement by saying, "NO, the report is absolutely false and baseless."

So what gives? Is it because Badua "pre-empted" things at the SMC camp by coming out with this piece of news? Is it because Eala or Non has yet to talk to Olsen Racela about his transfer to San Mig? But since everything's been set already, they couldn't deny it because it will happen in the near future?

Sadly, the victim from all these is actually Racela himself. Hard to believe the kind of treatment he's getting from the SMC officials. For someone who's been part of the company for nearly two decades now, who has loyally served them well, and who has helped them win multiple championships in the late 90's and 2000's, this is not the right way to treat a loyal servant.

My best guess is the deal will push through - except that they haven't come up with the right timing yet and that Racela has yet been informed of such. I hope Racela doesn't end up to be a Jong Uichico - who, in his last few months with the SMC Group, was treated shabbily that forced him to leave the company that he was part of for three decades.

Yes, we really don't know what to believe. It's watch and see for us.

One interesting news though is that the Indonesia Warriors are not extending Purves contract.

Todd Purves will be part of the Coaching staff of Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA summer league.

Yes, which is why I feel that Badua may have pre-empted SMC's plans. Their statements appeared that they have been taken off guard, and it doesn't appear to be a strong denial.

Plus of course, Purves' contract not being renewed speaks volumes of what may happen. I feel that this deal will push through - but the problem is that they didn't expect the news to come out before they got to talk to Racela about his impending transfer.

Ouch. Snow found the movement ahead of the coach in question. This really sucks if I were Racela. I'd jump ship ASAP.

Yeah, I wonder where Snow got his news. Maybe he just has a lot of friends who are SMC sports heads.

if what snow badua said are true. then it would be very insulting for olsen. snow badua got to know first before him. it shows lack or little respect to him.

Another theory, although quite farfetched, is that this is SMC's way of getting the pulse of the fans by spreading the rumor through journalists like Badua. Badua is known in sportswriting circles, apart from his hard work, as someone who thrives in getting news via the grapevine. When team officials are hesitant in making hasty decisions, fearing public backlash, they normally let the rumors fly, check the reaction of the fans, and make a final decision from there. They can easily deny this since this didn't come from them. Badua and reporters of his ilk have no choice but to accept this since they're making news out of unnamed sources. There's a risk involved doing this, especially if the reports come out untrue.

So true, its like asking fans what is more honorable thing to do for Olsen. Demote him to one assistant coaches in Petron or make him one of Tim Cone's disciple(or the only outsider /other mind between Tim Cones coaching tree ) at Purefoods..as it would be unlikely that they will do an Ato Agustin on Olsen..

just my humble opinion.. and i will not talk about this rumor spreading issue with SMC, Purves and Racela, etc.. because everything has been said already..

now, i really admire Olsen Racela.. one of the great minds in PH Basketball.. a really intelligent player and hardworking despite limited resources and all.. in fact i am number 17 in all the village and alumni leagues i play in because of Olsen Racela.. but he was prematurely given the head coaching job in all honesty.. he will be a great coach but not yet.. but he will be a great coach.. probably in the league of a cone, black, dalupan, jaworski..

relating it to Kidd, Jason Kidd was brought in for the nets because it would attract viewership (in my own humble opinion).. the brooklyn nets had a lot of options especially a lot of coaches in the NBA were kicked out but why kidd.. well kidd like Racela has an exceptional feel and intelligence for the game, so he can contribute in a way.. BUT he will draw the crowd.. and that's what brooklyn is looking for.. hehe i gone off topic with this..

anyways, i am pretty sure Olsen still loves the company he has been with for the past 2 decades or so.. so it would be difficult for him to leave the franchise.. and if he will be an understudy to Tim Cone, he will surely grab it to learn more for the future.. BUT, i am pretty sure he is offended and will think about his future very seriously..

now i pretty much remember coach chot reyes tweeting that he has an INSIDERS SCOOP on why Gee Abanilla was booted out of DLSU.. now i wonder what he knows?

anyways, Racela in MVP camp doesn't sound that off.. it actually makes sense and sound GOOD.. but i doubt it..

Badua is getting 2k per news story in spin.ph... Why not write what he hears? Hehe

“In fact, Boss Noli and I exchanged text messages regarding the team’s import and he didn’t mention anything if there would be coaching changes in Petron,” said Racela, who was appointed coach of Petron at the start of the season, which has been rocked by numerous controversies dubbed by fans as the Petronovela.

“Napag-usapan rin namin yun. Of course, nagulat rin siya,” said Racela.

Eala refused to comment any such move to replace Racela.

“Partner, wala akong masasabi sa tinatanong mo. I guess you’ll have to ask whoever it was who started this story,” Eala told InterAKTV.

If this is true and the deal pushes through, I wonder what's happening in the SMC camp.

Although Eala is known to always deny the rumors

So if I'm SMC .. Bring Racela to SMCM and make him coach San Miguel Beermen..good stepping stone and less pressure from pba circle..

Pressure is now on their side, to defend their title next season...but would be a great experience for Olsen, if ever!:)

Coach Gee is perhaps the most competent from a "technical" perspective on the Petron bench. But of course, effective coaching isn't merely about formulating the best plays...

I would try to look at how Alaska managed the transition into Coach Luigi and try to build on the strengths of the mechanics in the selection process. It's perhaps one of the top three reasons why they have been successful the past couple of conferences.

That may actually be Petron's approach. Not to say that Petron "copied" from the Alaska blueprint but there are similarities in the process.

Luigi Trillo was Tim Cone's assistant for several years. Gee Abanilla, on the other hand, labored under different San Miguel / Petron coaches - from Siot Tanquincen to Ato Agustin to Rajko Toroman and then to Olsen Racela. I agree with you that in terms of X's and O's, Abanilla is most qualified for the job among the present roster of assistant coaches in the SMC camp. He's arguably more equipped than Koy Banal of San Mig, Juno Sauler of Ginebra and Jorge Gallent of Petron. Note that he was the "science" in the Yeng Guiao coaching system with Guiao supplying the motivation and the tactical decision-making. Abanilla is equally young, a few years older than Trillo, but carries with him a youthful dimension in approach to the game.

With Abanilla, you see a combination of set plays and one-on-ones meshed seamlessly together - the same thing that Red Bull was noted for when he was still assistant to Guiao. And it's no secret that Guiao's coaching style is almost similar to Chot Reyes' offensive system. The difference is the physical approach that Guiao brings to the table. Since they obviously can't get Guiao because of political differences with the Cojuangcos, the closest thing that they can have that can approximate Guiao's style is Abanilla.
