Hell no...Dan Palami paid Coach Simon so in return Coach Simon should do his job. We need to eradicate this utang na loob thingy for us to move forward and if we want to succeed.

Agree with this. In addition, it must be noted that PFF had very legitimate reasons for letting go of Coach Simon ... first is the lack of the required license and second, the German federation gave PH a grant and of course they will bring in a German coach as part of the package. In the world of football, other coaches are replaced for even flimsier reasons and that's well accepted as it comes with the job. In Coach Simon's case, it's for legitimate reasons. I suppose Coach Simon expected this. He must understand the situation of Dan Palami.

As for the tweet of Noli Eala, that shows the character, or the lack of it, of the SBP Executive Director.

simon would have been a perfect fit for our U20/18 Nat football team if we have any. wonder if the PFF can pay him/afford him if we had a U20/18 team :D
simon was offered to coach a club in indonesia might as well take that offer.

naki sawsaw pa tong si noli. wak po sawsaw :D
eala, pls concentrate on Gilas. we need unity in all of our sports mr eala.

It's a good thing Coach McMenemy understands that this show of "ungratefulness" can potentially take the sport in the country to the next level. Wish we had more people like him who are looking at the bigger picture. The blame has to go to the people who would rather have 4-digit likes in their twitter/facebook pages without thinking of the repercussions.

Well said... if not because of those people.. expressing his (Coach Simon) disappointment in twitter wouldn't have happened... heck, as I pointed out earlier, Palami might have offered him another position but the twitter incident change all that...

I think Mr. Eala needs to apologize to Mr. Palami... Mr. Eala didn't even wait for Mr. Palami to air his side and he just reacted on the tweeter. :(

Eala is drunk...plain stupid tweet. He should explain why there is a rumor circulating that Greg Slaughter(the most important player to be develop) will be drop from the National team instead of making a sawsaw in Football events..Explain before you tell S###! to others Mister Eala!

Question: Do we owe Coach Simon? to some extent like utang-na-loob?

what's the english equivalent of utang na loob? closest translation is to owe a debt of gratitude. but "to owe a debt of gratitude" is far different from the pinoy concept of utang na loob. in the former you simply acknowledge that you owe somebody a great deal of thanks for something he's done for you. most of the time, the acknowledgment is payment enough. however, the latter is heavier in tone. it depicts a scenario wherein the one having the utang na loob is forever indebted to his recipient and is obligated to reciprocate the good thing done to him by the same.

going back to your question... do we owe coach simon utang na loob? fuck no. do we owe him a debt of gratitude? certainly! but i think we failed to acknowledge him that. just my two cents.

PHILIPPINE Football Federation (PFF) President Mariano Araneta assured former men’s football team British mentor Simon McMenemy he won’t be totally displaced after the PFF has decided to hire a highly rated German coach.

Araneta, who arrived on Saturday from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Congress in Qatar, told
The Manila Times in a phone interview that he will talk to Azkals team manager Dan Palami regarding the fate of McMenemy.

“Dan and I will discuss about the situation because we really don’t want to put him out since he is responsible to Azkals’ improvement,” said Araneta, referring to Mc-Menemy’s big accomplishment when he helped the team reached its first Suzuki Cup semifinal appearance last year.

The lack of Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) license,
said Araneta, is the main reason why the PFF tapped a new mentor since it is one of the requirements needed for the Azkals’ participation in the AFC Challenges Cup on February 9 in Bacolod and 16 in Mongolia.

But Araneta, who replaced the beleaguered former PFF chief Jose Mari Martinez on November 27, said they will still consider hiring McMenemy to coach the Philippines 17-and-under team because his expertise is also a valuable asset to Philippine football.

“We can’t allow him [Mc-Menemy] to just go. We still need him,” he said. “He can help us develop our young team. In terms of basic things in the game, he can help us. We’re considering him to coach in tournaments outside the country which doesn’t need any UEFA license.”

Without UEFA license, Palami has chosen German Hans Michael Weiss to replace McMenemy for the coming AFC Challenges Cup after meeting with Weiss and officials of the German Football Association last week. McMenemy’s contract expired in December.

McMenemy, who guided the Philippines to a 2-0 upsetting of reigning champion Vietnam and drew its game against Myanmar and Singapore on the way to the semifinals in Suzuki Cup, is reportedly “disappointed” with the PFF decision.

But Araneta said the PFF will get in touch with McMenemy soon.

Palami said Weiss was highly recommended by the Germans, who will extend an assistance package that will include subsidy meant to help augment the cost of bringing the new coach to the country.

Weiss, who coached the Rwan-da’s 17-and-under team, will arrive in the country on January 16 to prepare the Azkals for the AFC Challenge Cup two legs qualifying series with Mongolia.

I knew it!:).. I hope he take that position (U17), I'm sure the time will come and he will get his license... people we're just too excited on whats going on with the Azkals that they forgot.. that we got to let go of things for our team to go up.. and now I am worried if they have this reaction about the coach what would be the fans reaction if their favourite players are not selected to the final line-up... imagine if Phil Younghusband is dropped from the line-up just to give way for Jonathan De Guzman... there will be female riots in Manila:D

Passionate fans are part and parcel of all the great teams. As long as the replacement is based on performance, bring on the riots.:D

Based on AFF Suzuki form, if Phil Y is dropped from the roster so Ian Araneta can partner with Jonathan de Guzman, I may join the riots myself LOL.

I just hope the selection will be based on form, and there will be no bias for Fil-Germans over Fil-Brits and vice-versa.

That was just an example.. I doubt it will happen... Phil is the current top scorer of the active Philippine internationals... I doubt that he will be drop soon... unless if he get injured or if the new coach requires all his players to have a football club to be selected... I doubt he will miss any game this year...

Jonathan De Guzman is not a Fil-German.. he's a Fil-Canadian Dutch playing in La Liga..

Talking about the female riots... what if it happen during "San Juan":D...

Azkals (Philippine National Football Team)
‎"Germany will also be sending over special coaches and a training director who will oversee the grassroots development program of our country."

"They are also willing to host a training camp, all expenses paid, for the Azkals in Germany."

because of this report--
So far, Fil-German Manny Ott and Chris Greatwich will not be able to join team for the AFC Challenge Cup for varying reasons. Ott has been recalled by his mother club, Ingolstadt FC in Germany, and will focus on his studies for the meantime, while Greatwich has recently relocated to New York.
